Gabriel Byrne, director of "James X," a play about sexual abuse in the Irish Catholic church, commends Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny for speaking out against the Vatican, an act that resulted in the replacement of the papel nuncio of Ireland.
    -----
An Irish government tribunal of inquiry into institutions responsible for cruel and inhumane treatment of children is in session. In the foyer, James X, one of those children, now a man anxiously prepares to offer the testimony which he hopes will unshackle him from the past. As he waits, James is confronted with the fact that the tribunal he is about to go before is part of the very same system that made prisoners of children like him and sighting this truth prompts him to tell the story that will really, finally set him free.
In the last decade, the Catholic Church and State institutions in Ireland and throughout the world have been the center of an emerging secret history. That history involves the sexual abuse and torment of tens of thousands of vulnerable children. This is the human story of one of those children who is trying to emerge from a place of darkness into the light -- a light in which the human spirit is allowed to triumph into its full magnificence.
Gabriel James Byrne is an Irish actor, film director, film producer, writer, cultural ambassador and audiobook narrator. His acting career began in the Focus Theatre before he joined Londo's Royal Court Theatre in 1979. Byrne's screen debut came in the Irish soap opera The Riordans and the spin-off show Bracken. He has now starred in over 35 feature films, such as The Usual Suspects, Miller's Crossing and Stigmata, in addition to writing two. Byrne's producing credits include the Academy Award-nominated In the Name of the Father. More recently, he has received much critical acclaim for his role as Dr. Paul Weston in the HBO drama In Treatment.

It's time to stand up for all the children who are victimized. Thanks Mr. Byrne, and Mannix Flynn (and Mr. Neeson) for creating and producing this play. Speaking the Truth is so powerful.

I love the characters he's played. I agree with him. We need many more people speaking out against the corruption in the Catholic church. Thank you.

I'm extremely proud to have a fellow citizen of Ireland to speak up for us. We were treated horribly by the Catholics and to hear him speak about it is very, VERY powerful, especially when you grow up hearing about it but have no voice.
    Much Love From Carlow, Ireland.

I'd advise people to follow the link and watch the full video. It's free to view. I met Mannix many years ago as he was preparing to stage James X for the first time. He is a very enthusiastic and driven man and it was a pleasure to be involved in the project. I printed the first copies of the James X document and remember reading through it at home with incredulity. He is one of the few victims capable of articulating the true horror of clerical child abuse. Bravo Mannix!

I love this freakin' man, I can relate to him, and I totally support his mission to spread information on the corrupt situations happening within the Catholic church. I went to Catholic school and attended church regularly when I was young; I grew up being subjected to all these teachings, as I got older I became aware of all the problems within the actual organization; the abuse, the denouncing of physical love, and not to mention we are expected to believe such crazy BS. So long story short, this man is crazy wise. I hope that more people follow him in his movement.

I was startled when I came across this video. I didn't know how wide spread the issue was with sexual abuse in the church I always knew there was physical abuse because my father used to talk about it. I have so much respect for Gabriel, Mannix and the other guests on the panel. Now more than ever I am glad I never went to Catholic School. My father was never a very happy person to live with and now I know why. This kind of abuse has a ripple effect on other people. It's really disgusting.

original message is timeless, selfless and will never be forsaken-Christianity was born of change and with the concept of introspection, and the questioning of established rote adherence-Eyes to see-ears to hear.

Desde que conocí este hombre como actor, me enamoré de sus expresiones. He tratado de averiguar sus inquietudes, sus ideas. Hasta ahora no he encontrado nada subtitulado.

Powerful to see Irish reject their roman conquerers. Maybe they will understand why some in north & west europe have been hard on them, since many in northwest europe (and their satellite countries that once were, like u.s.) have not wanted the roman influence. Hart-Cellar Act of Immigrations in U.S. was RC banker (and a jew) to open the south border, and they STATED it was to romanize the u.s., to "latinize" it. Northwest europe does not need rome conquerers

Listening to the Irish I see how much of an influence they have had on Australian society. That lack of self belief, that idea that "we are not worthy", that idea that everything everyone else does is better and we should listen to them instead. It's bullshit! Ireland has so much to be proud of, there is so much talent, creativity and innovation in Ireland, why don't you walk about with your heads held high? Why don't you stop being so hard on yourselves and realise that the way you do things is different, but not wrong?
It's the same with Australia, we're a very young country, cast out on the other side of the Earth yet we have a thriving country with a huge amount of talent and innovation, why do we walk around thinking we are not worthy? Or that others are dong it better than us? It's total bullshit! I get so sick of Australians shit canning our country and our people, we're not shit and our people are not shit, just different, and what's wrong with that?
I think it's the Irish in us :-)

Towards the end of the full video which must be seen in toto on flora.tv Mr. Flynn states that this is not a question of faith it is not a question of Jesus' message of which the Church was founded-but of the religion(message) being co-opted by clerics for control. This I feel happened immediately after Christs' death and deteriorated since then.To allow what needs to be done this concept must be embraced-It is not the religion but those who have pirated it that should be disgraced and abandoned

Truly, I pray all those Catholic people wake up and see how they have been deceived as the pope does not know Jesus and yea, has taken his place to gather souls without him. It can't be a good place to go to reject Jesus. I pray for ya'll.

I am an Atheist but admire the message of Jesus.I was also raised Catholic-We were not a Bible studying religion-As an adult Atheist reading the Bible I come to the conclusion that everything that Jesus was against in the Judeism of His time is what the Catholic Church and other "Christian" religions have become ie. blind adherence to ritual, tradition, profit, fear and politics, what He considered corrupted the leaders of the time.Adherance to a distorted concept of Jesus message must end.The cont

@ghostgate82 No talking snake? Genesis 3.1 and Genesis 3.4-5. How do you know that it is other than written in the bible? Surely you're not suggesting that the whole bible is a rehash of other primitive myths and superstitions? In which case why would you be a Christian, as there is no other evidence than the bible to support your religious faith?

It is not THEEEE church, lol. There are 32,000 christian sects in the world. MANY do not have emphasis on being bad, bad, bad. Many follow the bible, not roman tradition. To say "thee" church is simply wrong. It is self-centered, arrogant, self-centric, whatever. The roman sect is not the center of the universe (except in its own mind, or where it causes great harm, i.e. genocide to make people pay it in taxes they call tithes)

As much as I agree with the criticism of the Church and the coverups of sexual abuse cases, his Faith is gone. He's bitter because of his experiences and it's sad. He has every right to be angry and I would be if I were him. But there's a call to forgiveness regardless. Then you're being taken down just like those Priests did to him and you hold on to it which rots you away. I'm just venting because I was there for a long time and had to forgive in order for me to move on. Forgive 70 times 7.
