Always loved this guy as an actor, he's quite well spoken as well. Very interesting guest.
While our ancestors died of hunger due to failure of the potatoe crop, the British government used to ship grain and other foodstuffs out of Ireland to the colonies for the use of the aristocracy. "Rack" rents had to be paid to British landlords for lands that belonged to the Irish. You might want read a biography of Oliver Cromwell, written by the
English author Anthonia Frazer. We could go on and on about the atrocities committed against the Irish by the British Empire. So I'm amazed at what this man is saying. He seems to be trying to blame the victims
Noreen Happel that's an oddly placed reply, but nonetheless unfortunate 😊
I didn’t know he had produced “In the name of the Father”. An outstanding film!
He reminds me of Daniel Day Lewis
Outstanding
Love Gabriel - one of my all time favorite actors. You can always tell a great actor by the projects he/she chooses to get involved in. Gabriel makes great choices.
Im irish i grew up in the fifteys and sixteys in ireland and the things that gabriel is saying was the same as my family i hated going to school because the nuns would beat us for the slitest thing great guest
Exactly the same nuns in Brittany :) I miss them today when I see the troubles in our streets.
Great interview. I myself am Irish, Scots-Irish. Irish father, Griffin, Scottish mother, MacDougal. the 7th of 9 Irish Catholic, in America. Its true that we are essentially what we are at the age of seven. And Heaven and Hell and Catholicism are inextricably intertwined when you grow up in this way. Whether you were raised in Ireland or America, when you're Irish it comes along with special issues, proclivities, and specific characteristics. It marks you, whether you want it to or not.
it's grace (through sacraments and parents' willful consecration), passed down by God given authority of parents over their children. Children receive grace in this way. Parents are responsible for their children because of this awesome gift.
Thanks Gabriel for doing this. It took some courage but oh my gosh, what a childhood. What a background to draw on as an actor. Happy to know we're on the same side.
The best actors are always forthright, honest and courageous. That's why they come across so well on screen, they're true to the part by being true to themselves with the character
He is amazing: handsome forever and so articulate and honest
Great History...through the eye of an Irish man, and culture. thanks.
met him yesterday in a small town pub, yes being a bit stalky LOL, but he was utterly charming and lovely!
Such a Violent culture to grow up in. I left when I could. However, if we go back to our ancient roots, there is a spirituality there that is so full of beauty and I feel that's where we need to look.
Thank you Dr. Paul Weston for being such a great person in our life, as a Therapist, a Human, a Friend but especially as a Father !
He is an amazing man
BTW The series In treatment is really great, I can highly recommend it. Not only for the script but Especially for his authentic acting.
He's amazing, I love it!
This guy should play a father priest more often!!!
❤ His sincere fangirl for life. He is sexy, elegant and luminous and powerful. I swoon at the thought of him. Would love to interview him. My favorite actor of all time. Such a stunning hot priest turned actor ❤
I love him on his therapy show ITS THE BEST ONE!!!!
He's nice to look at.
Can we all say a big Hell Yeah
Gabriel Byrne is even more interesting when he's allowed to speak uninterrupted
Wow very interesting interview and Paul J is did an excellent job as interviewer
This man makes me proud to be Irish. A gentleman and an artist.
Not Irish myself, but he is a wonderful representative of your Country
Another excellent guest. Intelligent, eloquent and interesting. Although I have to say.. what he directly says and implementations thereof are.. well.. disturbing.
Gina Huff I suspect I would've ended up as one of the "failure to thrive" if I had..
great interview!
Wow I just came here to hear his Irish accent. He always does a damn good American accent in movies and shows.
Great actor. Grew up watching him in Riordans in late 70s, on bunking off days in London. My aunt is married to a Byrne, who is Newry farmer, Boarder region, Ireland.
Yes! I loved him in Bracken
There is nothing Irish about me. I'm from the middle east Israel but gabriel is my beloved actor and person. He is perfect. I love him so much.
Two Living Legends on the same show !
OMG ! Agent Kujan was right !! Dean Keaton is alive ! He IS Keyser Söze !!
absolutely
Very interesting. Everything Gabriel says is true. My mother grew up in Walkinstown in Dublin in the 50s and it's all true. It wasnt all bad but the Catholic church had so much power and influence it was pretty suffocating...
Gabriel was from drimnagh, next door.
Very interesting. We did not have tv until much older but dad listened to radio all the time. For some reason I didn't have the same experience. Feel we were sheltered somewhat - a childlike outlook really. Remember giving pennies for babies in Africa. Said rosary every night and at mass every Sunday. Many rituals with church but it was sort of entertaining. Overall nice childhood. Of course, there were hardships. Always remember how safe it was. No crimes- door always open. Always visitors and people visiting from USA and GB. People loved to sing and recite poetry. Always had pets. Many fond memories.
Nice to hear you in your original voice...
This dude played a Priest in Stigmata 1999 and satan in End of Days 1999.
It sounds as grim as secondary school was in '70's Liverpool. By the time kids left they'd been broken.
I am so sorry
The discussion of the clash of the Brady Bunch and the real lives of Irish family was more prominent around the world than just in Ireland.
I love this man.
You are not alone
Just got my Chris Hedges premium gift book.
Hope folks are donating to TRN!!
Wisdom.
i loved him on end of days!
Good stuff. I don't think he's directed any films though. I hope he does in the future, but according to IMDb he hasn't yet.
I agree!
'It is the commission of 'true believers' to guide the world out of the era of "rule by fear!...
I am ver sorry for his bad experience in the Catholic Church, more over, at the Seminary. However, when people enter to the Holy Orders and have no vocation, everything tastes dark and bitter. Of course, I dont mean to justify his painful experience, but not everybody ends up the way he did. I believe in the religious life and being consacrated to God is the most wonderful thing in the world. I think he needs to heal the wounds caused to him. We pray.
The Africans of Kemet were in fact the ones that came up with 7 being the age of reason. The number 7 is a very important number to the wisdom of Kemet. ( AKA EGYPT)
"Yes; and I think that our principles are right, he said.
But if they are to be courageous, must they not learn other lessons
besides these, and lessons of such a kind as will take away the fear of
death? Can any man be courageous who has the fear of death in him?
Certainly not, he said.
And can he be fearless of death, or will he choose death in battle rather
than defeat and slavery, who believes the world below to be real and
terrible?
Impossible.
Then we must assume a control over the narrators of this class of tales as
well as over the others, and beg them not simply to but rather to
commend the world below, intimating to them that their descriptions are
untrue, and will do harm to our future warriors.....
Yes; that is our principle.
And therefore he will not sorrow for his departed friend as though he
had suffered anything terrible?
He will not.
Such an one, as we further maintain, is sufficient for himself and his
own happiness, and therefore is least in need of other men."
[Plato, The Republic, Book 3]
I liked him in Stigmata even thought he was nominated for a Razzie for worst supporting actor lol
It was hilarious and Byrne is great in it!
What is describes is Brittany in the 50'-60'. Same people, same faith, same families, 2 same pictures on the wall .
'End Of Days' Satan as a guest for X-mas. What a symbol !
He always looked more Italian
Found Tina Turner with the real like Turner today at st Peters. Will charge up and photo
Need long term care for tony. Dbc went wrong
Cucù mio
such a nice person yet he was such an evil satan in End of Days
(:
Found Anthony. Also, um, london came calling in VA. Be as discreet as possible. Liam still ralph n.lolol think we invaded thw qrong country....
I always liked Gabriel Bryne but for me he's a lost soul spiritually. Now, it sounds like some of his experiences as a youth were not conducted properly and rather corrupt by the adults at the time. He talks about doing good deeds and getting into Heaven etc. That right there is incorrect. Faith was never about doing good deeds. It's about grace. So part of me feels like he wasn't taught properly, but then that's where as an adult, you hope and pray he does learn the truth and meaning and why God sets the laws he sets.
Once I heard he was all in on the climate change religious cult I realized he isn’t very bright. Good thing he’s a good actor
And you're hardly someone to say someone else isn't very bright. He's proven his intelligence repeatedly (do you even know his history?), while you make ignorant, dipshit comments on UA-cam.
