- In this video, I take the image made in the last video, turn it into a digital negative and then print it using the oldest photographic printing process. The salted printing process is a beautiful process invented way back in 1859.

Beautiful work- Working in real time from documenting your image capture, digital camera image to digital negative, to the print process is presented so well to inspire and to teach what is involved. Doing this series in parts really lets the viewer take in the overall and the details. Very inspiring always.

Hi Bill - these videos have been immensely helpful, thank you. One question - when you made your salt print curve, did you tone the test strips, or is that best left out of the equation?
Hi Bill! That’s a great question. I did not take the toning into consideration when building the curve for the salted paper prints.. unfortunately, unfortunately, toning is a moving target of its own, and it is probably best left out of the equation.
Hi Bill. Thanks for posting the video, I really enjoyed it. I noticed that tje audio seems a bit uneven. Sometimes it's too loud, sometimes, it's too quiet and sometimes it's perfect. This occurs on a number of your videos, so you might want to take look at it.

Is the emulsion not sensitive to the light table? Are the bulbs non-UV, or is it just not significant enough to make a difference?
Great question. It’s just that it’s not intensive enough. You need pretty, concentrated, ultraviolet, light and, although the light table would fog it if I left it there for a half hour, or so, for the few seconds that I am on there, it really won’t make a difference.
@@BillSchwab that makes sense! I read in Christina Anderson's Gum printing book that she used that method to register her next layer, but I was too nervous to try it without knowing if she had special bulbs or something. Going to give this a try myself. Thanks!

Alright I am going to most likely ask a very dumb question. But can't I just use rapid fixer for salt prints?
No dumb questions. Yes, Rapid Fix will work.

Curious about your food coloring, I've tried it before and I get only a light colored sheen per one drop. I take it you just use cheap brand but I just don't get the darker trace that you get. Anything special going on that I am missing, like a particular brand or type?
Hi Daniel. I just use a family general brand that came from a dollar store near me. I use the green, if that’s any help. Pretty much just one drop to my shot glass. The shot glass for each print doesn’t contain very much solution. I added it per print and not to my basic 12% solution. I hope this helps!
