I bought this set and used it for the first time on my truck without issue. Im no professional mechanic but ive done all the work on all 3 of my honda. Each over 200k miles and ive worked on cars for 20 years. I see no issue, metal and casting looked sharp and clean. The engravings are clear and easy to read and the case is very well put together. They were easy to clean and it seems to have all the sizes i needed to work on my truck. Lifetime warranty. Ive used the same Husky set for the last 10 years. I think people just get caught up in branding. Im pretty satisfied with this set and i will buy the 1/4 and 1\2 to complete the set. I feel like it was a good invest and i can see these holding up another 10 years. I also own the 3/8 flex head from icon and its done a fine the dozen or so times ive used it on my cars and trucks. Icon seems to make good professional tools in my opinion.

Glad to hear your set is holding up. Yes, the castings are typically nice a clean for most Icons. I liked most of what i saw except for the binding of the anvil in the head. Unfortunately they are starting to cut corners and I'm willing to bet your set is also missing the washer that keeps the appropriate tension on the anvil/ head.

I dont dislike it, but I feel that if i was shopping for a complete 3/8 set like this to travel with or use for field work, i think the better purchase is spending $25 more on the tekton set where the metric sockets go to 24mm, the SAE goes to 1", and you also get a breaker bar.
This could be a good entry point for someone on a tight budget when combined with a high % discount coupon

Not necessarily. I am in the middle of a project and wanted bigger sockets for 3/8 I actually found in my old craftsman set up. My 3/8 impact is smaller and fits in tighter spaces. So I used my breaker bar first. I will say shout out to Capri tools they make a 30” breaker bar works great for old rusted bolts.

I would love to get ICON sockets but they are just a little out of my price range right now, maybe if they ever go on sale. Thanks for sharing. Like most guys I would love to buy the better tools but for what I need them for I am better off with the cheaper brands. I just bought a ratchet set from TEKTON and they are really good and TBH they are the FIRST non-cheap hand tools I ever bought and I have very happy with them. As time goes on I am sure I will end up buying either ICON or TEKTON sockets and wrenches. Gear wrench is not too bad either, as far as Snap-On or MAC, I highly doubt I will ever own any of those brands unless I buy used.

To the people thinking they cheaped out. These sockets look the same as the ones I bought by themselves. They didn't change anything on this kit. This is a great set and will last you, just use your tools and quit staring at them.

@@thingsmenthe corners are rounded. Show me a test that indicates making the walls thinner at the square drive makes it less likely to break...... They call heavily rounded or chamfered interior corners "stress relieved"..... But I'm not buying it. It makes the socket thin at the square drive. It's round enough, and I bet it's fine. They do test these to failure when making new designs.

The foam deal is really catching on among multiple tool brands. I see the attraction but, to me, there's a lot of wasted space with it. I suspect the icon sockets sold in the trays are different than the one in the foam set. I don't think this is just a "gen 1" difference. Harbor freight is shaving costs on this kit by utilizing cheaper manufacturing techniques. @@dylanplagmann5236 no chamfer on a socket is purely a cost cutting measure. There is no benefit to not doing it. It will not make a socket fit tighter on a ratchet. The fitment is determined by tolerances within the square drive cut out itself and how it meets with the tolerances of the anvil of the ratchet. Chamfer is preferred because it allows more slip or angle when applying the socket to the ratchet. It makes it easier to put the socket on the ratchet because it doesn't have to line up so perfectly . Also don't tell people what they can and cannot think.

They are know for doing that. However these seem much too similar. It’s almost like they found some processes they could streamline and save so they could maximize profits.

Icon is a little late tot he game. I was looking for something like this last year and ended up getting a milwaukee set from home depot for under $100 and the sockets are squared off in case you want to use a wrench with them.
