  • A compilation of vehicle only commercials are in the following order: 1. Toyota Tercel for 1987
    2. Ford Dependability woohoo 6 yr/60,000 Warranty
    3. Isuzu IMark
    4. Ford Taurus
    5. Voltswagon GTI 16V
    6. Pontiac Grand AM 1987
    7. Hyundai Excel Models $5,195 Wow!
    8. Mitsubishi Precis $5,195 Wow!
    9. Chevrolet Corsica "Heartbeat of America"
    10. Nissan SE 4X4
    11. Pontiac Fiero GT, Sunbird, & Firebird Trans AM
    12. Toyota Spring Fever for Trucks 4X2
    13. Toyota Spring Fever for Hatchbacks
    14. Nissan Van GXE
    15. Honda Models for 1987
    16. Mercury Sable 86 & 87 also Cougar
    17. Renault/Jeep Renault Medallion for 1988
    18. Mercury Grand Marques or Cougar $ 13,999
    19. 1987 BMW 528e & 325
It's kind of awkward how a fully equipped vehicle (# 18) costs over double what an economical car would. Also, interesting how Mitsubishi & Hyundai have the same exact price for their hatchbacks. Were they affiliated with each other at the time? Which vehicle was the better value?
Not much imagination when it came to names of trucks "Nissan SE 4X4", "Toyota 4X2", & "Van GXE" for kicks. At least you knew how they would handle terrain.
Like the most: # 3 for creative fun # 9 for the ambiance & smooth transitions # 14 for an airport-like feature

"The wings of change are blowing" line in that Corsica commercial was also used to introduce the 95 Ford Windstar.

They use to make a "sexy" tercel 2 door commercial in Puerto Rico. Every young person wanted one. Along with the ford splash and the 2 door yellow civic .

03:45 Key Hyundai is still around, but no longer in Bridgeport. They moved up the road to Milford.
Herb Chambers Hyundai in Hartford is now Lia Hyundai, same address.

When I was a kid growing up in the 1980s, I'd stop and stare anytime I saw a 30 year old car from the '50s when I was playing outside... I can't imagine kids today doing the same for cars from the 1980s.

Some of us are, I love Pontiac's of the 80's. I also still stare at car's from the 50-70's. Im sure cars of today will make some kid stare as well. When your around during the time its new it does not have the same coolness as it does today.

@@CommanderCronus True. But when I was a kid even something like a 1960s Falcon or Nova would elicit a "Whoa! Cool!" I doubt anyone would give the same reaction to like a Cavalier or Escort today.

In that Grand Am commercial, three dealers were shown. Stephen World Of Wheels in Bristol, CT is still there, but is now called Stephen AutoMall Centre and is now only a three brand dealer (Cadillac, GMC, and Toyota). Lynch in Manchester is also still in business, obviously now a standalone Toyota dealership. Pontiac Center in West Hartford (612 New Park Ave.), on the other hand, sits completely abandoned and rundown.
Moving to Hyundai, Hartford still has a Hyundai dealer, but instead of flying under the Herb Chambers Auto Group banner, it's now under the Lia Auto Group banner. HCAG does have a dealer in Auburn, MA, though. The David McDermott group is still around, but the Hyundai dealer in New Haven now goes by the name of Brandfon Hyundai. Key Hyundai is still around, but now on Bridgeport Ave. in Milford, CT.
No Mitsubishi dealer in Wallingford anymore, it seems. Apparently the same case with Shelton, CT...and Westbrook...but Hartford still has one, now under the Barberino banner.
The Nissan Van, one of the most infamous vans ever built. Fitted (poorly) with a 2.4 liter Z24i motor that resulted in an engine compartment so cramped, it resulted in overheating and fire issues. Eventually, with a class action lawsuit pending, Nissan recalled every single one sold, though a small number of owners opted to keep them, resulting in crushing en masse in similar fashion to the GM EV1. I'll bet the number of original US-spec Vans left on the road are in the double digits, if not in the single digits.
Back to dealers, with Honda. Balise in W. Springfield is still around today, located on Riverdale St. Probably one of the oldest Honda dealers in the NE United States. Northampton Honda, another dealer that eventually was bought and placed under the Lia banner (dealers in Brewster, NY and Kingston, NY recently joined that list). The Honda dealer in Greenfield is now called Lundgren Honda. Menard & Holmberg Honda (which apparently also sold Isuzu) is now Curry Honda (and has a Nissan dealer under the same banner next door).
Even the Renault dealers seem to point to other things themselves. In Springfield, there's still a dealer under the Center banner, a Chevrolet dealer. Guzik in Ware is now a Dodge, Jeep and Ram dealer (meaning it stayed in business through both the acquisition of AMC by Chrysler in 1987, and the bankruptcy of 2008, also being a rare dealer that sells Dodge, Jeep and Ram, but not Chrysler). K&M (now going as K-M) today sells Toyotas. Cahillane is apparently out of the sales business and is now in the auto body and repair business.
The land on which Springfield Lincoln-Mercury stood (1355 Boston Road) is apparently now home to a branch of Webster Bank.
To wrap things up, the site of The Hampshire Group still houses one of those brands, Toyota. The dealer name? You guessed it, Lia Auto Group. It's now the site of Lia Toyota of Northampton.

notice in the Ford commercial that they claim that their cars had fewer problems than any cars made in NORTH AMERICA. thought they could slip that one by us.

My choices are the Corsica and the Mercurys.
As for others, the Precis is a rebadged Hyundai Excel; Hyundai partnered with Mitsubishi for technology transfer. They still do - search "Mitsubishi Proudia/Dignity" & "Hyundai Equus/Centennial".

Originally, no. I did cut out whatever movie was on each & chose the commercials that were on non-glitchy areas of the beta tape. Computer & video editing software are useful in bringing back the original brightness & audio.

    • @xmrun
      @xmrun 3 роки тому

Most '80s cars were boxy and square. Most '90's cars were round and smooth. Most '00s cars were smooth and angular at the same time. Most '10s cars are angular and swooping. See the pattern?
Boring, pedestrian passenger cars have pretty much always looked the same as eachother throughout the decades. Put down your rose colored glasses.

people talk about cars being shit back then, i have far more trouble with cars nowadays than i had then, this computer shit and the way cars are made by thin wiring, and thin parts, at least then you could fix them with a hammer. lol.
