    My pet peeve in Antique malls are dealers who put “sticky stickers” right on the painted surface of their antique item.....It is almost impossible to get off especially if it’s been on the item for a long period of time...and sometimes damages or discolors the paint....So dealers...use tags...please...

    • @barb-jm7990
      @barb-jm7990 4 роки тому +18

      Also, putting stickers on the front of original paper boxes, magazines, or other printed paper items. Removing the tag removes some of the original box or artwork!

    • @kblewis3331
      @kblewis3331 4 роки тому +1

      @@barb-jm7990 I agree! It can damage the items!

    • @googleaccount3555
      @googleaccount3555 4 роки тому +1

      haha I know, I have that all the time :D I dissolve some sticker glue with gasoline or a thin oilproduct, it works well but not on stuff like paper boxes or certain dyes :) the worse I find is the kind of muddy white translucent tape, it has really thick glue on it, I always just leave those on in fear of making it worse :P

    • @kblewis3331
      @kblewis3331 4 роки тому

      Except any oil on any paper is going to damage it, as is any glue (i.e. from stickers) I get that it is difficult to mark prices on vintage magazines and books, but I think a graphite pencil is probably the better way to go.... not as permanent as a sticker or other thing with glue.... Guess the dealers need to re-learn a few of these tricks...

      I disagree. I always find great bargains! The trick is knowing what you're looking at and quickly finding its value - if you don't already know. For instance, yesterday I bought a Fenton hobnail slipper for $1.89, a 3-piece Royal Haeger set for $5.95 and a Red Wing "jack-in-the-pulpit" vase for $3. All of them in excellent condition.

      Also...he was on a quick 2 day trip, by plane...so whatever he bought he had to either ship back ( if you aren't from Canada you may not be aware that our postal charges are ridiculously high), or he had to be able to pack it in his carry-on, hard to believe a guy checked a bag for a 2 night stay, lol..

      @@Snarkapotamus It's not that deals can't be had, but they are less probable IMO. I will admit that "glass" is not my forte, as it probably isn't for a lot of resellers. Which gives you great advantage!

    Out here in Denver I think there is a couple of those places still around, barely surviving. The problem is buyers are looking for bargains, but the sellers don't leave enough room for investing so that eventually the value will increase enough.. But of course , hard core collectors will still buy for their collections. But, not enough sales to keep those places around as dozens of them closed up within a year or so.

    Thanks for the tour Alex, taking a tour through an antique fair with you would be so educational. That cupboard had a macabre menacing look about it, like some portal to somewhere sinister.
    3:27 not sure if that vinyl bustier is your size, might come in handy if you decide to try out for The Rocky Horror Show.

    This place looks exactly like the antiques part of the Pickering Market. I love going there but it always costs me money!!

    That place is amazing! I could spend hours (and more money than I actually have) in there! I know you don't really do haul videos, but I'd love to see what all you bought besides the clock. And thanks btw, that jingle is going to be stuck in my head now! "It's not too sweet....." Lol!

    A lot of cool antiques malls in Ontario. I am now in Kelowna and there is next to nothing. Wish I could start one up, I know for certain it would be a success.

    There are two antique malls in my little town and one is 3 floors. A lot of fun to browse ... once in awhile I’ll definitely find something I have to have. As a tourist town the stores do well.

    When I go out to Phoenix Arizona to see the kids, there is a Mall like this and I spend no less that 6 hours there. They even have a kitchen so you can go and sit down and eat and rest so you can shop more... Lol
    Thanks for the look!
