I didn't know The Banjo was featured in that movie. What a segue she made from Moonlight Sonata to Camptown Races (in the Banjo). It goes from the related keys of C sharp minor to F sharp major. Clever. Thanks for sharing.
@@JoPurpleLove Gottschalk's The Union has three well known American tunes: Stars & Stripes, Hail Columbia & Yankee Doodle. ua-cam.com/video/AJTHrBzwrP8/v-deo.html For other playful American-type songs, check out Gershwin's Songbook ua-cam.com/video/FUDj4VKCcuk/v-deo.html And Scott Joplin's Ragtime songs are lots of fun too: ua-cam.com/video/qSzifv3gOco/v-deo.html
@@LearnLoveMusic I hadn't thought about Gershwin. I grew up listening to a few of Michael Feinstein's Gershwin cds. I've sung a few Gershwin tunes as well. Joplin is a great comparison. It's been awhile since I've had to think about composers it seems haha. Thank you for the suggestions and taking the time to reply! :)
@@LearnLoveMusic yes. I love it! Thank you! I'm an amateur pianist from Louisiana and I love "Morte!" Unfortunately, I don't read music and I don't have time to learn by ear at the moment. If you ever get around to learning and filming, I would forever be grateful!
Hi thank you for sharing. I am struggling with the timing of the intro to the outro as I call it, or camptown races. Watching you I may lay some of the blame on my mind fingering. Unfortunately I cannot slow it down enough. Your version of L & R fingering for two measures would be a blessing. I need something to bump me off the wrong track.
Hello oldtoothlesslion! If the spot you mean comes at 2:52 on this video, I use 3-2 in the RH and 3-2 in the LH. The best technique is to pull these fingers back toward yourself to get a good repeated action on the C#s. It's like a rolling action with the hands alternating quickly IN ONE LINE. Thanks for watching!
Gottschalk listened to some of the best banjo players of his time (according to music historians). This piece is said to give a very rare look into specific techniques of banjo playing in the 19th century (brushless down-stroking, right hand patterns, etc...) Gottschalk was inspired by the very best! "The Banjo" is really a great piece.
2:55 Most beautiful part of this song imo
So entertaining and enjoyable! Thank you for the playing.
My pleasure!
One of my favorites, thank you. Love it!
Thank you!
I had been trying to figure out what Nicole Kidman plays in Far and Away. Really nice to hear the whole piece. I'll have to somehow attempt it now. :)

@@LearnLoveMusic Out of curiousity, do you know of any other songs that give off a sound/feel of the Camptown races?

Same! "say you like my hat Shannon!"
This is great! Can you please post a video of "Morte!"?
Thanks Phillippe! I'll take a look at Gottschalk's "Morte". Did you listen to "L'Union?" It's great too. ua-cam.com/video/AJTHrBzwrP8/v-deo.html

Could you do the Pasquinade?
I'm actually working on it right now! Stay tuned...

Learn & Love Music Thank you very much. Nice to see Gottschalk’s life and works getting more exposure.
I wonder what he would have written after hearing Earl Scruggs playing the banjo!
