David and Lefty, I am glad i was able to help. i know the feeling of being far away from home and being sick. so i tried to help. My wifi hot spot is now on limp mode. i used all the fast data. i was traveling one day. so i just saw this today. i hope all is well now and it was a pleasure to help a fellow traveler. take care of lefty and your self. thanks Bobby
Dogs truly are our best friends...you were so lucky to have such a kind person close to your van..how thoughtul and kind...Lefty is staying close...take care
I'm glad you were able to see a doctor and find out what was happening. Regarding the buried animal you came across, I'd suggest you be careful and alert in that area. Bears will often bury the carcass of animals they've killed and will come back later to eat it. They can be very protective of these spots. If you don't have bear spray already, it might be good to get some to have when you go on your walks.
Yes David, definitely cougar or bear, my guess would be cougar because it was fairly clean! Cat more than likely! And yes definitely stay clear of a predator kill they have to work to hard to give them up easily. For the most part a cat will stay clear of you but when food or young are involved they have a different mindset.
pain is nothing to ignore ive had both hips replaced...due to exposure to Agent Orange...but before i did i was in constant pain from bone on bone...afterwards, no more pain... never ignore body pain... i was a medic in Nam...you have to listen to your own body. im glad you saw a doc. keep smilin...teach ole Lefty how to drive... grin.
Ice and lots of ice! I'm going thru it for the past few weeks. I'm in a powerchair and reinjured my back. All I can tell you is I'm so sorry your back is "out". Lots of ice (or frozen veggies)!
David, you might want to consider selling your ambo and getting another one with a taller interior height. As you can't stand upright when you are inside, you are throwing your body mechanics off. If that is something that isn't feasible for you, then perhaps raise the ceiling where you are able to. If you take off the ceiling panel you will see that there are aluminum 2"x2"s going across the ceiling. In between the 2"x2"s the ceiling is higher. You may want to consider opening up a channel or two so you can walk front to back and cook, wash dishes, etc while completely standing upright instead of hunched over. You'll lose a little in ceiling insulation but it may be worth it. Another thing to consider is Pilates floor exercises and yoga. Good to hear you are doing better.
David, you survived Lefty's sneeze fart in your face...you're gonna be alright!😄😉 Seriously, I'm glad your injury was not more debilitating and huge THANKS to Bobby for helping out our friend! The universe is telling you something David. I'm glad you're enroute to your loved ones and home base. 🌻🐾🐈
David I totally understand your pain. I have degenerative disc disease as well with 2 titanium rods & six screws in my back. I can go for months with no problem and I could sneeze or cough and be down 3-5 days or more. I'm still not giving up on my dream of the nomadic lifestyle things will just be a very very simple build than originally planned. Sending vibes of Blessings and Love for continued healing and lots more adventures for you and your fur baby. Thank you Bobby for being there to help.
Wow! Good thing you had a friend nearby. Also, LEFTY knows you as well as anybody does. He responds to you. You are very fortunate to have him. Glad to see your note at the end referring to a diagnosis. Have a safe trip home!
I know all too well about back pain. Unfortunately I suffer from degenerative disc disease and broke my back twice. I'll turn a certain way and...DONE. It's honestly one of the things I fear most about becoming a nomad. I am also from NY and thoroughly enjoy your videos. I hope you're able to feel better soon!
I have been throwing out my back for years. I sneezed one time and threw my back out. I laid there on the floor for hours before I could even move my head. Scary when you are alone. I feel for you and I’m glad you are diagnosed. My heart goes out to you. Side note, what a great pup Lefty is. He knows you are hurt and is responding accordingly. Good dog
So glad Bobby was there, and you got this painful matter addressed.❤️ Lefty being by your side, and the love he has for you is so precious. Your words of wisdom, and inspiration is much appreciated. Sending hugs and prayers to you both.
I so can relate to that pain. My spine has rotated in my lower back. Yes the pain is horrendous. Your back muscles are spasming. Laying down for twenty minutes or so will stop those spasms. It’s the twisting motion that gets you and low seats.
So sorry that you are in such pain. I just had a compression fracture in my lumbar area on my last van trip. I had to drive home 1000 miles. I’m thankful for my super comfy driver’s seat. Muscle relaxants saved my life after I got home.
David, so sorry you had to go through that dude. Thank God Bobby was there. I hope that doctor shows you a way that makes it less likely to happen again. Lefty is such a good boy.
OMG! I had that. It's pure hell. I started to heal when I started PT. Last thing each session, therapist pushed on the muscle. First couple of times I almost screamed. Eventually, the pressure felt good. Therapist said the muscle was solid rock. In the end it was soft and flexible. Thank you for sharing. I'm glad to know I'm not alone.

OMG! As someone w/12 back surgeries behibd me...I ABSOLUTELY KNOW the pain and im so sorry. I am praying you are able to get home sooner than later. Plez keep us updated. Have blessed and safe travels. LUCRETIA.
I get a trapped nerve in my back and it floors me ',and it makes it worse because I'm in a smaller van now. .but my staffy looks after me everytime that's why there called nanny dogs. Get well soon dave.
Periformes syndrome can be very painful similar to sciatica. I’m glad to hear you saw a doctor & hopefully by now you’ve rested & feel much better. Wishing you & Lefty safe travels & good health
Been there with an injury in the back country with no help. Severely sprained knee. Could put zero weight on it. Somehow managed to climb into my Ursa Minor top to sleep. Also managed the next day to put the top down. Called my buddy and drove from Flagstaff to Alabama. He put me up and it took me close to two months to recover. Really wakes you up to how precarious your well being it in this lifestyle. Be well. Be safe. Quick recovery.
Glad to know you saw a doctor and on your way to recovery. Good thing your buddy was close by and lefty stayed by your side. ooooooo I thought it was siatica but thanks for sharing what it is. Take care.
After 30 years of place work my back was shot, with a lot of daily pain. Seeing a good chiropractor multiple times certainly helped but for the last six years I have been using a hard foam roll every day and you can feel it re align the vertebrae preventing them from going out. Since starting this regimen I haven’t had to see a chiropractor more than a half dozen times. There is a you tube video “ bob and Brad” who are physical therapist who have some good info on persistent back pain.
So sorry you were hurting. It was a really blessing to have your friend Bobby around and that he could help you out. Hope things go well at the doctor's office. Take care.
Sounds like a piriformis injury, and I know how excrutiatingly painful that can be. Several years ago, I was trying to move a bale of hay, pushing it with my leg, and after that I was in so much pain, like I'd never experienced before. Had to go to a doctor. I feel for you, and pray you never have that happen again. What a blessing to have someone to help you.
That's what the doctor said - Piriformis syndrome. I've got exercises I do and I changed the way I lift things... now that I know what it feels like. That was the worst pain I've ever felt!
My goodness I think lefty was so amazing taking care of you , hes so funny and and cute, glad you know what the issue is, thanks for sharing a vulnerable situation with us, Ive never been to New York..yet ...
Glad you're feeling better David. I've had lots of problems with my back and neck (disks at L1, L2, C6) excruciating shooting pain just like you described plus joint inflammation in my fingers, elbows shoulders and toes. Nothing really helped until I cut processed food out of my diet. Once I did that things started turning around. All the pain started going away and I could actually see the difference in the size of my knuckles, both toes and fingers. Nearest I can figure I had developed some kind of food allergy that was attacking the soft tissue of my joints (which is more common than most people think. I've gone from being a prematurely crumpled up old man to digging in the garden, getting more exercise and being a lot healthier. I also lost about 25 pounds of belly fat and went back to the muscle tone I had when I was younger. The brain fog I was experiencing cleared up as well. Every time I fall off the wagon and start eating processed junk again the pain starts coming back which nudges me back towards a cleaner diet. I don't know if that's what's happening to you but it's something that is pretty easy to experiment with by removing certain things from your diet and then going back to eating them after a couple weeks and seeing how you feel. The foods that make you feel bad when you go back to eating them are most likely causing some kind of reaction. I know this is advice that you didn't ask for but it's what worked for me so I thought I'd share it. Good luck to you and Lefty.
Hi Infotoons • just found your comment and the list of those letters and numbers instantly had me relating to your pain. I've had two back ops. Neither really helped. The best ive found is cognitive behaviour therapy....mind over matter or pain.....I feel for you both. It's breath takingly dreadful..... Always be aware of how easy it is to upset your back.....The lack of sleep and constant aggravating pain is awful.....You are not alone and thankfully he had someone help him move past it..... Take care. Take it easy and God bless you.
If you don't mind me asking, what foods have you cut out? I have 3 vertebrae in my neck Wich are losing the cartelege between the bones and causing alot of pain in my elbows, wrists and finger joints, I've heard about changing food's can help, I don't want to releigh.on pain meds if I can do it a more natural way! but at this point I'd eat radioactive bat shit on a daily basis if I thought it would help relive the pain! there's times I can't hardly turn my head or do simple things without a lot of pain, plus sleep loss! and 60 is to young to fell like I'm 95!
@@russpendergraft5057 Processed sugar, corn products and wheat products were the big three for me. Wheat in particular was a problem for me even though it didn't seem to mess with my gut. Organic weed doesn't make me hurt nearly as much. When I do the best is when I'm able to keep on a ketogenic diet. Adding iodine, collagen, quality bioavailable vitamin and mineral supplements along with very large doses of vitamin C and D3 are other things that helped. I also buy single ingredients and cook for myself instead of letting corporations cook for me using ingredients I can't pronounce. This isn't something I did all at once. First I eliminated sugar, then corn, then wheat, then went to the ketogenic diet later adding all the things I mentioned over the course of about 3 years. It's not easy but pain is a very good motivator. I've fallen off the wagon and when I do after about a month I start feeling the pain coming back into play. When I'm doing good my diet consists mainly of fresh vegetables, meat, a lot of fat (mainly organic butter, heavy cream and coconut oil in my coffee and unsweetened cocoa) along with a little bit of tubers and fruits. Although I do backslide and make myself an organic pizza now and then. I don't know if this is something you're willing or able to do but this is what helped me. I hope something here helps you Russ. Good luck.
@@infotoons212 .... Thank you very much for your reply. I forgot to mention that like you, I too changed my eating habits, it made a significant impact on my pain level. Your choice of food stuffs to cut out is awesome. I got my dietary information from a real dietitian as my doctor had no information for me. It is life changing. It's also, after being told of course, common sense. I take hardly any pain meds now. It still is really bad at time's but you learn to cope and try new methods... Stay safe and keep smiling. That helps me.
Good to hear you pulled through the acute phase of your injury. Glad Bobby was around to help out in the critical moment. Good friends are important. Lefty did a good job looking out for you as well! Hang in there!
Omg David I feel for my friend am glad that guy was there to give you a hand. And lefty gave you some sweetness to try to ease your pain but like all of your viewers we are constantly concerned about your well being get some rest and be careful.
Have done my back in a few times over the years, just goes on me for no reason. Pain is nothing like labour pain, now that’s a hellishing long OUCH.Glad you feel better.
I've been there. Left my phone in the kitchen, couldn't get out of bed, laid there for a day. Finally I couldn't go without a bathroom trip, an hour or more, just getting off the bed, crawled to the bathroom, then couldn't get up to use it. Day 3 was getting myself half cleaned and crawling to kitchen. Still couldn't reach the phone. By the 5th day I managed to stand and shuffle. I had never in over 60 years, had back, hip pain. I was told it's sciatica. My phone is now a part of my body. I hope you never have this problem again.
So sorry that you had to end your travels in so much pain, I understand how back pain can make you miserable, happy to hear that you are receiving medical care. Prayers for a complete recovery 🙏🙏👍👍😊
Yes.. felt that pain, been there. Thank goodness for your friend. Glad you got recovered enough to get on the road. I carry a cane, and those instant ice bags to help reduce swelling, just Incase. Both really help. Happy trails.
I know EXACTLY what you went through. Take this seriously. After spasms subsided work on stretching your hamstrings laying on your back with one leg up and one leg flat to the ground for 15 minutes minimum. Do these stretches every day. This stretches all the lower back muscles and will take the stress off the vertebrae and compressed nerves. You might have a disc rupture, but you can heal this. There are more stretches to do, but the hammies will be your biggest muscle to help lower back. Stretching is incredibly important. I’ve been there.. My thoughts and prayers.
David, Sorry to hear about that back issue, Back problems are no fun at all. Glad you had some help close by. Praying for you. Going to be sending you an email also.
I’ve had the same thing happen many times over the last 30 plus years. I’ve found push-ups have helped me. They strengthen the core and back. Hope this helps.
I hope and pray you get over your back injury fast... I had my back messed up bad one time when a car ran a red light and hit my drivers door ouch no fun when your back hurts....
Lefty loves you so much. He knew you were hurting and that made him hurt too. Our little fur kids are so tuned into us. Glad you found out what caused it and that it's something you can "fix". Safe travels and big hugs to handsome Lefty.
Morning David and Lefty man: I hope you feel better soon. Dogs are amazing, Lefty stayed right there for you. Ok so are people, that gentleman was so nice to help. Take care of the big guy Lefty. You two stay safe and take care. Maybe carry a small pack with water, candy bar or snack, and meds. and your phone. Jerry Eagle Point Oregon.
Glad you had help. My biggest fear being alone. My dogs were also a huge worry. I had a bad case of what ifs? Who would care for my dogs? They were 19-20. One deaf. One blind. They’ve both passed away. Unsure if I will have another pet on the road. On another note: Leftovers-LOVED 1st couple seasons. Weird show. Lol..was also on pain meds while watching. Be safe.
Hello David & Lefty, I know that God is with you. Your friend showed up and helped you when you needed it most. You have paid it forward many times by helping other and now it was your turn. May God bless your friend that helped and everyone on the way home. I'm sorry you and Lefty had to go through this but, you know you will come out the other side. Lefty showed how much he loves you with his actions. God bless my friend and be well. Russ & Keira
My heart goes out to you - I know the pain you were feeling. I've had my lower back seize up (shooting pain) and it would literally take me 10 minutes to turn from my left side to my right side and then sit up to get out of bed - I'd have to take deep breathes to prime myself for a bit of a turn, then lay there for a few minutes while the pain subsided and repeat until I was upright - I couldn't walk without a walker because I couldn't straighten up - it hurt so bad I thought I would die from the pain - needless to say I was out of commission for quite a few days. As a result of that episode, I'm extremely cautious about my back.
Sure glad they didn’t find you in the woods covered in pine needles! Kidding aside, really glad you’re fixable and your adventure is “To Be Continued”!
Every time we go up toward Whitehorse lake ( Williams ) area recreating in the Jeep, I look for you so I can stop in and say Hi. Yes, We've all had that lower back pain, it suck's. Hope you're feeling better!!
I feel for you man, i just got out of bed after 2 months with a trapped sciatic nerve. Worst pain i ever had. I know a few people who's backs have gone this year, is an epidemic? Get well soon buddy.
I am so happy you both are ok! So glad someone was there to help you out! Please you both be safe. Sometimes we forget how things can happen to us. Last year I suffered a stage three shoulder separation mountain biking in Utah. If I was there alone it would have been a bad time. Just take your time and be safe. We love you guy's.
Oh wow. I am so sorry for you. Good thing Bobby was around to help. Isn't it amazing that our animal companions know when we are sick or hurt? Glad you got in to the doc and can get some treatment! You made me laugh when you said you emerged "more grizzled". Is that a good thing???
Wow, what an experience. I hope you won't be offended, but I had to laugh at Lefty's reaction to you being ill. I have never seen a dog look so concerned, the expression on his face just cracked me up. So glad your on the mend mate.
Lefty is really trying to give you so much support. He will be fine when you are better! I have experience with this personally and professionally. In my last long distance van trip, I would get that pain after so many hours of driving. Luckily, I drove for many days before it started to flare up! Hopefully, you can get yourself to a chiropractor or physical therapist ASAP!. The piriformis muscle is in close proximity to the largest nerve in your body. The sciatic nerve. When this nerve gets pinched from a spasming piriformis or other nearby muscles, this can send a lot of pain all the way down to your foot.
Oh, David, I am so sorry to hear of your back trouble. I thought it might be a bulging disc by the way you described the pain and all.. I have never heard of that condition you said it turned out to be. But at least you know. And you are correct. “That which does not kill us makes us stronger…” I am glad you had Bobby there to help you. And, of course, sweet Lefty. Take good care and take it easy….don’t overdo. You don’t want to reinjure yourself.
I am so sorry to hear that you have had such a painful experience... Good luck for your trip back home. It will be good for both of you to be near your family for a bit of TLC.... 💚
Hey it's James in the bus, be thankful it was not your spine, believe me I know back pain, my spine collapsed 3 inches, and now walking is like a knife in my back every time my foot hits the ground and sometimes I can't walk or feel my legs. I live in my bus full-time on my friends land in Farmington New Mexico. I am glad that you are better now. Your videos help me get through the day, I am very poor and can't afford to get the surgery. Keep up the good work and stay safe and God bless you and your family and America 🇺🇸
glad yr feeling better..I too have had back pain off and on for years...it would travel down my hip sometimes...finally got it diagnosis...had an MRI...I have spinal stenosis with 2 bulges . . muscle relaxers are amazing if I have an episode of pain...thanks for sharing...
I am so glad you are feeling better. I know exactly what you are going through. I have been in bed for 5 days with traveling neck and back pain. I don't think I have the same issue you did because my back pain started in my neck over a week ago then moved into my shoulder, then down my back and then finally into my hips, lower back and butt since Sunday afternoon. I think it's sciatica caused by something else. I will see a PT on Monday (I hope). Thank GOD my husband is being a very patient nurse for me.
Sounds like your muscles were tensing up in anticipation of the stress of the cross country trip. It sounds like Lefty is a good companion to help you get well. I hope you feel better soon.
Yes and if you go to one about twice a year ... well then you will likely never have this happen again. Maintenace just like anything else in life. Glad you are feeling better.
David and Lefty, I am glad i was able to help. i know the feeling of being far away from home and being sick. so i tried to help. You were a huge help to me when I really needed it and changed your plans to help me out - I owe you a big one!
Bob: You are what makes a good human, a great human.!!!!
Bob, thank you for being one of the good guys! Happy travels!♥️
Glad to know people like you exist Bob.
So nice to know someone helped you and all is well!

Yep, cougars will bury things too.
True that predators bury their kills, but that was definitely a human burial. Branches on top and all. Predators don't do that.
Didn’t know that, thank you for the info!

I had pirirformis syndrome in the past, I empathize with how much pain you were in. Glad you're on the mend.
I can really relate to your story. I had a broken back and had no one to help me a few years ago. So glad your neighbor was there for you.
That was a rough few days for me :/
I feel ya on the back pain. I hate it when I throw my back out and have to crawl back. Good times.
I’m glad you had someone there to help. That is one of the casualties of traveling alone. I hope it’s nothing serious.
Bobby is a rockstar...Back pain not so much but you a rockstar for having gone through it!
Been there. Ice is the best. If you can't hold ice carry some chemical ice packs. Stock on board an ambulance 😁
A friend in need..is a friend in deed !..Shout out to Bobby !....Yes...get that back taken care of....best wishes for a complete and quick recovery..💝

Shout out to Bobby thanks for taking care of David and Lefty
Glad you're doing better, I know that pain! Ugh. It's so amazing how Lefty understands the situation.
Feel better soon! :) Lefty's eyes expressed so much love and concern. Unconditional love 😇

I've been saved by an osteopathic doctor, more than once. A D.O. is my path to being pain free. There's one in Vegas that I swear is a miracle worker.
Wow! Good thing you had a friend nearby. Also, LEFTY knows you as well as anybody does. He responds to you. You are very fortunate to have him. Glad to see your note at the end referring to a diagnosis. Have a safe trip home!
Yes I know the pain. Can’t imagine dealing with it on the road. Yikes! Glad you had help initially. Lefty is an amazing care giver too.
He went in to companion mode and was in low gear :)

Thanks for helping David, Bobby! Glad it’s fixable David. Safe travels to you and Lefty. Those kisses from Lefty, so sweet.
That was lucky you had such a good Samaritan near by to help out. Boy would you have been stuck without him. Animals are amazing how they can sense when we are in distress.

on your way to recovery. Good
thing your buddy was close by and
lefty stayed by your side. ooooooo
I thought it was siatica but thanks
for sharing what it is.
Yes, Bob and Brad can’t do without them!
Love Bob and Brad! Two best physical therapists on the internet in their own opinion! 🤣💕
I love Bob and Brad!
So sorry that all happened, nice to see your better, Blessings to the both of you & your friend, ✌️❤️
Glad you had someone close by that offered to help you. Hang in there!
Good luck.
@@nojnoj3069 Thank you and God bless you too.
Glad you had someone nearby to help out…perfect example of how we all need to look out for each other on the road! 👍
I feel your pain, I’m sorry you are hurting. I just recovered from a shattered pelvis and I am sending good thoughts for a quick recovery
I know exactly how you feel. Ouch! I opted for surgery. Feel better. Thanks Bobby for helping out
Oh my God I’m glad you’re OK thank God you had someone there with you and lefty you took good care of you get better luv to you both🚑🐶💕
I've been there.
I've been doing daily exercises and stretches under my docs guidance and they definitely help :)
Thanks Judi :)
Hey Dave, take care of you and Lefty.
Gosh, that was scary. SO glad you're OK and that you now know what causes that pain. Best wishes from Cape Town. 👍🇿🇦
glad your doing better just take it easy and don't overdo it
Glad you had help. Be safe.
Season 3 went really wild down in Australia :)
And I know all about the what ifs... I spent the first year+ with them...
Ouch! What helped me was, ice, heat, ice, heat, ice, heat, then repeat. Good luck!
Hello David & Lefty,
I know that God is with you.
Sorry for your pain 💕 Just got a shot last week and can walk again so I feel you. Of course I was home so no climbing in and out.
Hi David. Hopefully are are feeling much better now. Glad you had a friend to help you out when needed. Take care of yourself and Lefty💕💕
Kidding aside, really glad you’re fixable and your adventure is “To Be Continued”!
ahaha ... now that was funny .
So sorry to hear your been held up. Lefty senses your not well. Dogs are such loyal animals. Hope your feeling better soon.
Every time we go up toward Whitehorse lake ( Williams ) area recreating in the Jeep, I look for you so I can stop in and say Hi. Yes, We've all had that lower back pain, it suck's. Hope you're feeling better!!
The absolute best UTUBE channel for vanlife…….by far. I am bananas about this channel.
Get well soon..David. be grateful your in good company.
Oh yes... the pain :/ it actually lessened the more I moved about and the driving was surprisingly ok for me!
So happy you’re ok!
So glad you had someone nice close by to help.
Thank you :)
I hope your back is better! See you next time! Much love and prayers to you!❤☺
I worked ambulance for ten years and I can certainly relate to your pain. A Chiropractor is your new best friend when this happens.
I've found that out! He's helped me a lot!
Yes and if you go to one about twice a year ... well then you will likely never have this happen again. Maintenace just like anything else in life. Glad you are feeling better.
Just dropping in to see how you’re doing. Hope you’re feeling better David!
Glad your problem can be fixed, I injured my back when I was 18 , I’m 61 and have issues with back problems ever sense. Best wishes and safe travels🤗💕
