French steamers are so beautful. You can run the Orient Express coaches behind this and it makes a stunning consist. Nord was a system that was absorbed into SNCF.
Its called a '231' in SNCF speak. Southern region used the same description system, counting the axles. The Sncf 141R is on my wishlist. A 2-8-2 tank loco! Carl is happy!! in the background.
Last engine I purchased from fleaBay was a brass Sunset models F-3A that had "issues" and didn't run. I was fine with that. I have since fixed the "issues" which was a new drive line piece from Athearn and some soldering on the frame and it runs like new. Cheers from eastern TN
Nice model that. If you're happy with a bit of fettling and the price is right, then it's all good. Also, gives you a pleasant "well played sir" feeling! Thanks for watching from South Devon, England
I've got the earlier version of this locomotive, the loco driven version with the powerful and incredibly smooth running Saucisson "sausage" can motor with ballbearing rotor mounts. I like Jouef steam locomotives, I've got a few, but all either tank locos or loco-driven tender locomotives. I don't fancy tender driven steam engines much.
Yeah, it looks decent and runs well but seriously noisy. This is the only Jouef steam loco I have but I will keep an eye out for loco driven steamers. Thanks
@@fairweathertrains3029 Jouef 3-pole motors are very noisy, they can be made a little quieter by applying a 50/50 mix of technical petroleum jelly and sewing machine oil to the rotor bearings (using a needle) and technical petroleum jelly on the gears and pick-ups. I always use this lubricant because it also improves electrical conductivity.
@@fairweathertrains3029 another trick with these Jouef locos is to clean the pick-up bogie split axles with lighter fluid or contact cleaner (or IPA) and apply a little technical petroleum jelly to ease running and improve conductivity. It works both with plunger pick-ups and copper strip ones.
I agree about tender driven locks. They just make no sense. I did buy a German N guage loco that was a great runner and at that scale it's excusable. Definitely not right for OO/HO.
Pretty sad that jouef swapped the 2-3-1 to tender drive. I had the loco driven version in about 1970. It had a huge, cylindrical motor that protruded into the cab😮
Great video thanks for sharing, noisy but really runs well a steal at £24 would look good with a rake of french coaches behind, maybe for another video perhaps? J
These French tenders always look a little odd to me, sitting on their wheels. Very much look like water tanks - which of course they largely are. And very big too.
It’s the only French steamer I’ve got & it does look interestingly different. Although it’s all just moulded, from a normal viewing distance, it looks really good I reckon. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for that. And Carl is definitely chuffed!

That's good, I had forgotten Technical Vaseline Jelly even existed! I now need to find some! Thanks for that.

@@JohnnieE1961 that's the exceptional "saucisson" sausage motor, loads of torque and very low current draw.
@patricksmodels Is that the loco drive or tender drive that has the "saucisson" motor?

I've got to look out for French coaches now as I have none, sadly.

Thank you for that
