Some of the comments below are so arrogant and straight up stupid, good lord our society is in shambles. Thanks again Leo for your efforts and coverage during this tough time for our community.
Thank you for your excellent coverage. We just had a huge fire scare here in Chilliwack a few weeks ago. My buddy came running in that day and said a house fire just started a couple of hundred yards down the valley from our home on Chilliwack Lake Road on the hill side of the road. We raced down there to see if there was anything we could do but not a chance. Firetrucks and a water tanker got there in the nick of time. We guided them into the side road to get to the small break between the house and the hillside. The fire had just spread to the base of the hill. If they had been a minute later I'm pretty sure the hillside and mountain would have gone up in flames and the hundreds of homes on Promontory Hill would have been torched. The wind was blowing up the valley which would have resulted in a very similar tragedy to Kelowna. We barely escaped disaster. My heart goes out to Kelowna, my family there, Yellowknife, and especially Lahaina as I lived there for a short time back in '82 and have some of my best memories from that time.
Literally the best coverage I have seen yet. My heart is in a knot seeing the devastation. I feel bad you have to witness it personally. Hoping for an end to this fire soon!
So intense the nature of fire, incredible footage man. Really dry here in the kootenays and all over bc right now. Seems like with this weather , this can happen to any town at any time. scary. Thanks for sharing that video !

I'm speechless. It's so mesmerizing... but also horrifying. I'm so SO sorry for everyone who has lost their homes and businesses. I hope everyone is ok out there.
I moved to Kelowna from Saskatchewan in 2004. I had no idea what Kelowna looked like until I saw pictures on the news in 2003 wild fires and discovered how beautiful it was here. Now 20 years later I had the unfortunate opportunity to witness in person another horrible damaging wildfire. So sad.
Wow great footage I was DT at Sutherland beach by Knox just totally blown away! Praying for everyone. We got evacuated in Glenmore and i watched firefighters just destroy fire coming toward our house. It’s looking safe to go back now.
Super sad. Happens every decade or so unfortunately and probably more as people build in the hills. Friends in Westbank tell me stories about saving the lumber mill. Brave folks in the city. Praying everyone stays safe.
Thank you for the excellent filming. There are too many horrific fires around the globe. Very sad to see. I send my prayers for everyone’s safety. ❤️🙏🌺🥵
This is no coincidence that fires keep starting in areas with high winds . The land grab is starting all over the world , no country is safe from this type of disaster if emergency response sits back and does or cant do anything because of the high winds feeding the fires . Best plan I have seen to take the land from the people .
Wow! Just one after another, Dry & high winds all we can do is pray for a lot of rain, People please just get out & stay safe stuff can be replaced our lives can not , We thank all those that can help all the evacuated people in your area & our !

I take it this is Canada...sorry you're having to go through this and witness it. I can't imagine being that close! I have been lucky to be out of town for all 3 fires that came close to my home in the past decade, so was just getting updates from friends.

@@AndrewLumsden There's been no lightning. It's started by a person or group of people, as I was saying below, probably the same one(s) since 2003. It's very easy to start one in a desert basin such as the Okanagan. And it'll keep happening because there's no way to catch anyone in all those hills. All those firefighters putting their lives at risk for the greedy people of Kelowna in their overpriced monstrous houses that have a lake front view. Look at the size of these things! I lived in Kelowna for 7 years, every 2-3 years it seems the fires come very close to the city.. and it never fails, that the people living in the outskirts of town end up losing their properties. Its crazy.
One of BC's biggest issues with fires is logging. There are many published papers showing a non-casual relationship between the amount of brush (undergrowth) and the frequency and intensity of fires. This makes complete sense as an old, giant, tree is going to be much less flammable than underbrush and small stick-like trees. The tree canopies also stop moisture from escaping from the ground, reducing the likelihood of fires. These trees also trap moisture in the air, under the canopy. The BC government (BC TImber Sales is the section of government that actually logs the province, themselves) needs to stop logging the province, for the sake of the residence, if anything.

Arson is what started these fires. People were paid to light these fires. I think you can figure out who is paying them. They same person who is not allowing water bombers from the US to help fight these fires.
Canada should ask help from the South Korean National Park Service that owned 28 units of Russian Kamov K32-A1 helicopters which are the most advanced fire fighting helicopters in the world. However don't expect the help comes free of charge.

So much tragedy all over the place. Climate does and has played a significant role in these tragedies, however the earth has been doing "its thing" for millions of years. Not everything is man caused. There are cycles we know of that have happened over the millions of years. Knowing that drought, high temps and more storms are on the menu in the cycle we are in, I think governments and officials etc have been asleep at the wheel.
