  • Axiom Machine Maintenance Part 2 "Ball Screw Maintenance"
In part 2 we will be using the grease gun and the included grease in the Axiom Maintenance Kit (MK468) to maintain the ball screws on an Axiom CNC. Keeping your machine clean and well lubricated helps to prevent unwanted position loss or longterm damage to the ball screws and guides. Machine maintenance is an important part of owning a CNC machine and the Axiom CNC Maintenance Kit (MK468) has everything you need to keep your machine clean and running like new.
See the link below to order you Maintenance Kit (MK468) today.

I picked up a kit a while back for my AR8 Pro V5 and have used about half a can of 3 in 1 oil already. MDF dust is nasty and sticks to everything! I've used t-shirt shop rags to apply because for some reason I don't want to get the Axiom towel dirty, lol. I love the machine and service. Great job Axiom team!

why is it necessary to remove the cap screws on the top side ball screws but not underneath the table? is it purely to make room for the grease tip to reach the fittings?

The zerk fitting on the Y axis is not swivelled out at an angle to allow the gun nozzle access on my AR6 as I can see in this video. I cannot get it to swivel either. I appear to have successfully greased the other two ball nuts. Should I remove the cap screws on the Y axis ball nut also (like shown on the X and Z) to allow access to the zerk fitting? Does that mean then that I should run the ball nut and assembly all the way to the other end to tighten the cap screws so it is 'aligned'? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just purchased the AR6 PRO V5 and expect delivery end of next week. This will be my third Cnc to date. These videos nor the manual explain how to grease the prismatic guides for the “Y” travel. I was told these odd looking grease nipples are a european design. More help on that maintenance would be nice.

Darrellkh, we are currently working on part 3 & 4. Using the grease gun to lubricate the cars on the guides will be covered in the following videos. Thanks

I preformed this service yesterday and the bearings popped out of the plastic inserts on the x axis . Can this nut be repacked or do I need to purchase another ball nut ? If so where can I purchase .

What type of grease should be used

We recommend using the Grease offered the the kit. We would also recommend a Lucas Oil product called Extra Duty.

When I pump my grease gun it seems like the grease doesnt even go into the bearings at all it just spills out of the nozzle.

i had to push in the little round bearing on the grease fitting with the allen wrench to "break it loose", then the grease went right in.

My older model does not have the grease fittings but does have holes for them. What size fittings should I get for them?

This should be a standard 45-deg 6mm grease fitting...I'm happy to dig one up for you if you'd like to swing by.

We did the maintenance on the z axis but after screwing the z axis back into place the bearing down go all the way and it’s not reaching the limit switch

Gustavo, it is possible that you may be hitting a Z Limit. To correct this issue simply home the machine. Hope this information was helpful.

I'm trying to do this on the icon 8 but the Z axis ball nut is underneath, not on top like this one. Do I still raise it up before tightening everything, or lower it down?

    • @AxiomprecisionCNC
      @AxiomprecisionCNC  2 роки тому

Cory, on the Iconic series machine the grease fitting can be accessed without having to disconnect the spindle assembly. Move your Z travel to a point where you can easily access the grease fitting and simply grease it. We hope this helps.

How often/soon after you get your machine should you do this? I just got mine last Friday and am honestly a little afraid to do this because I would hate to mess anything up!

    • @AxiomprecisionCNC

Michael, welcome to the Axiom family. Greasing the ball screws should be done every 500 machine hours if you are keeping up on your daily maintenance. If the daily maintenance is lacked and the machine is not well kept it is recommend that it be done sooner than 500 hours.

Congratulations Micheal. I got mine a few months ago and I love it. The possibilities are almost mind boggling. Have fun and feel free to ask any questions you might have.
