Getting the mk4 at a discounted close out price seems to be something nobody is talking about. I am considering purchasing a 2nd mk4 as backup or to at some point gift.
I would have mentioned it if I had known. I was under the impression at the time I filmed this it was going away the day this came out. They will be gone soon though so grab the 4 while you can if you want to save a few bucks.
Thanks for making this video. I decided to get the Mk4 until I saw the Thermapen One is on sale! I'm excited to see that you're posting new videos again. Keep up the great work!
You sold me! Just ordered mine using your link in Tennessee Orange. Will take a couple weeks longer to get it, but hey, I will be one of the first in the country to have that color. As always, great job Justin!
I have a Thermapen that is at least 10-12 years old. Had to send it in once for a free repair. Now the battery door is broken but a piece of tape and it is still going strong.
Without watching the vid and just by the specs alone I would certainly go for the upgrade. Faster response times and a smaller margin error are always a step in the right direction. Upgrade, UPGRADE EVERYTHING!
Thanks Justin! I’ll stick with my MK4 for now, by the time my bbq is ready to temp, the beers have slowed down my vision where I wouldn’t know the difference. Appreciate the review. Keep up the good work!
Geez, I just got the e-mail from them yesterday and you have one! Lucky you. I love my Mk4 and won’t upgrade. My wife even uses it when she bakes bread. So versatile. For those that want the new one, be a good person and give your old one away. Someone will love you for it.
If you're going to upgrade your thermapen, get the Thermapen IR, it combines the thermapen Mk4 with a IR gun in one unit, I use mine constantly for everything when I'm cooking.
I still have the original Thermapen my wife bought for me in 2014 because I wasn't going to spend the $99. Best money she ever spent. Still going strong and dead nits accurate.
I was just thinking about purchasing a insta thermometer since I got a green egg for Father's Day. The UA-cam algorithm is clairvoyant. Just purchased. Thanks for the thorough review.
You're welcome. I watched the pellet grill review you did for under $500 that video helped me in making my decision on which pit boss to buy. I ended up with the 600 pro. I'm new to all this and I'm having a blast. Everything I have smoked so far has turned better than expected
I bought the MK4 2 years ago and love it. I just bought my wife a One, it arrived yesterday. As soon as I got my hands on the new One, I had an excuse to upgrade: My MK4 warranty has expired! Thanks for the info.
I saw the ad for the new one and my OCD kicked in... Despite already having a Mk 4 and the Mk 4 with the infrared sensor... I was about to order it.. and like you said, the adult kicked in.. Why? The MK 4 is fantastic. I'll stick with it until one of the Mk 4's fails (and I've never had one fail or even need a battery). Thank you for the honest review.
Awesome review Justin! I totally agree that the ThermoWorks Thermapen is the very best investment you can make if your serious about BBQ and want dead on accuracy that you can trust. I will probably end up getting the Thermapen One just because it is the best instant read out there right now!
Picked up a MK4 while it was on discount and it has become the best tool ive ever gotten for the kitchen and bbq! cant believe I went all these years without a good thermometer.
Great comparison. I've been using the MK4 for about 2 yrs. Just bought my son the One & Smoke for Xmas for his new off-set, but as you said the adult in me will continue w/the MK4 for myself. UNLESS my boy starts cooking better BBQ than me:)
I’m very frugal, but the Thermapen is a luxurious, robust mechanical work of art that is a joy to use and well worth the price. They do go on sale or buy two get one free every once in a while.
Great timing. Just ordered one a few days ago , being delivered today. As soon as I placed the order I got the add on the new model. Figures. I’m sure the Mk 4 will do just fine And 40 bucks cheaper.

Enjoyed the review Justin but I gotta say that I see no practical difference. I mean... if you need to slow it down to 25% to see a difference then there is no difference.
I just bought a thermal pen MK4 yesterday for close in out price at $69.00. The One was listed at $109.00 before tax. I decided to get a thermal pen because my buddy has one and also my next grill thermometer probe sleeve came off. It was cheap and it was time to get a high quality product.
I agree brother! The Thermapen MK4 is the single best investment I’ve ever made in my barbecue journey. I absolutely love this tool, & would highly recommend... Cheers!
Looks like a great product and a great company Justin. Instant.. means instant... and it seems like Thermoworks did a great job with this upgrade. Take care!

Great review. I'm a long time Thermoworks fan and upgraded to the Mk4 from a Classic a few years after it was released. Undecided if I'll upgrade again but I may gift my Mk4 to a friend or relative if I do (better than "accidentally" dropping it onto a 700 deg F grill). Excellent comparison showing what I will get if I do upgrade. 5 year warrantee is a plus. I had a Thermoworks timer fail after 25 months of modest use, it had a 24 month warrantee. UPDATE: After two years of use, everything you say is true. I can barely see that The ONE is faster than the Mk4 when plunging into an ice bath, but it is always about 1 second or a tad more. Thermopop 2 is a budget and slower alternative from the same folks. Not ruining one prime rib easily pays for a Thermapen.
Hey Justin, this is a good review. Ironically this past Thursday I purchased the MK4 due to it being 30% off LOL. Thanks for the video! Cheers brother!
As I said on their Instagram post, if they offered this in a camo version, like they have before, I would be all over it. Even though both myself and my lady have the MK4 lol. I bought her the Red and I have the Blue, but I want a camo version!
I will upgrade eventually only because I love the company and my thermapen is the single most used tool I have for cooking, even beyond BBQ. Just getting water temperature right for baking, etc. I’ll wait a bit to make sure there’s no gremlins and they don’t come out with a 1.1 model in short order.
You do know Mrs Baby Back maniac watches your videos and you can never throw anything out of the window to get a new one again! I absolutely love Thermopens, they just work each and every time flawlessly. Buy one, cook a chicken breast to temp, you'll never have tasted a chicken breast like it
Great. Just great. I’d only just gotten out of the doghouse for ordering the mk4, claiming my classic wasn’t working right. Then she caught me using it at the smoker. This is gonna take some planning...
Let me help you buddy. Of she is like so many women, and I say this with respect, just grab her pretty little hand and lead her to the closet or wherever she keeps her shoes, point at them and say" I want to buy another really great thermometer ". The investment of most of those shoes will be MUCH higher than a few thermopens. Good luck,we're all pulling for you. 😃👍🍻
Love my MK4, no regrets or wishes. That said, Thermoworks (if you're listening) might want to consider a trade in offer. Functionally, the new One is no different than the MK4. It's just all the functionality is a little bit better. As far as the warranty goes, they probably realize that even the MK4 can be covered for 5 years given the known durability. If I thought I was only going to get 2 years out of my MK4, I wouldn't have bought it. Justin - Thanks for the frank and honest review.
Great review man. I think what you said at the end is great. I have the mk4 and it is a bad beast! I know that I will upgrade to the ONE once I need to but I am one of those guys uses things until they are lost or broken. Haha. That ONE however if you are looking for a first thermoworks would be what I would choose in a heart beat. Really you can’t go wrong with anything from them!
Yeah man. It's one of the few companies I can recommend and not worry that it's going to come back on me. They're just so good at what they do and they stand behind their products. Have a great rest of your weekend buddy
So first off Justin it's always good to see your vids. Next up,you're timing couldn't be any better. My grandfather started teaching me how to grill when I was 5. That was about 57 years ago. Why do I say this? Because we didn't have instaread thermometers back then so learned the hard way meaning I don't use them for steaks, chicken parts, etc. But dammed if they aren't wonderful for roasts, briskets, turkeys, etc. And I recently decided if I can justify a crazy ass propane flamethrower for lighting my fires ( yes it is the grill gun of witch I speak) I might as well as break down and finally get a thermopen. So thanks to you I'll not mess around and place my order for the new one. Thanks. Now back to the grill gun. I wonder just how fast you can toast a marshmallow ? FIRE 🔥🔥🔥😄👍
Thanks Justin for your thorough evaluation of both Termapens but especially for your honesty about the new one versus the old and not playing the drama queen that everyone has to buy one or you're bbq experiences will be ruined for life.
I would love for you to do another review. I’m hearing nothing but great things about the new Franklin BBQ pits. But I’m interested in your comparison between that and the lone star grille smokers.
Thanks for a good review of the Thermapen One, just subscribed to your channel and used your affiliate link to order through, I figure, if you take the time and energy to do all that, you should get a little juice from the company. Looking forward to checking out your other vids. Cheers.

Miss seeing your videos!
You need to review the Masterbuilt 1050. Its a game changer.
Interesting... (Thanks for the tip.)
Great.
Hey I know that guy!!
Lol. Thanks for making the cameo. Your check from S.A.G. is in the mail.
Hey mate have you had any experience with the masterbuilt 800 or similar gravity charcoal smokers?
Have you tried the version with an IR thermometer built in? I really want that one.
It’s great to use on cast iron. Dutch oven cooking got more manageable.
I have a IR gun already so I haven't tried the built in one.
That's the one for me! great video :)
will get this model for sure. Thanks!
The one in RED is on sale now for $78.75 < new version
Just ordered the MK4 at a good discount and am very happy….
Nice review... i am gonna pick one of these up just so I can have one :)
lol. I know, right. They do good work. Thanks for watching, John.
I won't be upgrading, but it's good to know it's more awesomer. Just incase mine dies or I loose it (more likely).
I like thermoworks. They’re great quality and easy to use. BUT...they need to come out with a product that can compete with the meater.
Just bought the MK4. It's on sale $30 off on their website.
Great review, I want to order one and I’ll definitely use your link when I do!
Awesome! Now I want one lol 😎 Wonderful video and working it with those camera angles - big thumbs up 👍👍
Thanks buddy. I actually pulled out all my fast glass for this one. I need more practice with it.
Thanks for a good review of the Thermapen One, just subscribed to your channel and used your affiliate link to order through, I figure, if you take the time and energy to do all that, you should get a little juice from the company. Looking forward to checking out your other vids. Cheers.
