Rob Paulsen (Animaniacs) Improvises 12 New Cartoon Voices | Vanity Fair

- Voice actor Rob Paulsen tries his hand at improvising the voices of 12 random cartoon characters that he has never seen before. Using a similar technique he used for Yakko Warner (Animaniacs), Raphael and Donatello (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Carl Wheezer (Jimmy Neutron), Rob brings these characters to life.
Rob Paulsen lends his voice to 'Animaniacs' coming to Hulu later this year, and his memoir Voice Lessons is currently on sale.

I would perfectly fine with listening to Rob Paulsen ramble and talk about how groovy he is for 13 minutes
I hope you've seen all the episodes of Talkin Toons. That thing was a joy.
He did a Ted talk a couple months ago. Exactly what you're looking for.
I would too like, he is such an interesting guy and I am mad obsessed with him in Animaniacs!!🤩 Memento Mori my friend🖤
@@AngelicZelda444 Rob Paulson is so cool.
Memento mori to you as well
let me get this straight, the voice of yakko warner is also the guy who said “where are my testicles summer?”
He's a really talented voice actor. The man is a legend in my book.
He's also a grade-A human being
Crisdean Mackinnon Yeah. Ya want my stuff?
Up there with Bel Blanc.
I see you everywhereeeeeeee
2nd time this week.
Of all the voice actors who have improvised on here, I think this is easily the best. His characters are so diverse and sound so different from each other. He could do a whole show full of characters and you wouldn’t know they were all him.
I dunno man Phil LaMarr's was really great.
@@sweetsweetmeat *Scott McNeil looks up* "...COULD? COULD? TRY DID DANGIT!"
Or, at least, "90% of an episode"...
Cmon Yeardley did amazing in the same way.
Jim Cummings is amazing as well
And tom kenny
Can we all agree that Rob Paulsen is a national treasure?
Mega Crash The Hedgehog Yes. Of course!
Oh absolutely a National Treasure no doubt about it
Oh absolutely that he's a National Treasure no doubt about it
Absolutely
It’s gonna suck when we lose him along with Frank Welker
His improv's so effortless omg
He got that way through years and years of practice
@@phoebeclark4718 Always upsetting to see training confused with mystic abilities.
Practice Laura and you can be even better than him, there are loads of tutorials even he didn't have access to for the first 30 years of his adult life.

Okay, I need a whole show about this character.
And the Theo character lmao
"No I'm gonna *eat* the dog!!" 😡
It will never not be amazing to me, that this man had stage 3 throat cancer four years ago. One of the greatest voice actors of all time.
Cancer is awful, unless you’re a lowlife.
Three?
@@dannythomas417 like joe biden
@@starwindamada5313 He's the president now. Trump was cancer.
@@dannythomas417 they're both awful unless you're a shitlib
"a voice which I stole, mainly because he is dead"
good god imagine having the guts to joke about that rob is a national treasure
Of course he was Snowball, "Where are my testicles Summer?"
Sean Orellana cool how detailed his memory is of all these different voices and actors etc
And then Justin Roilands video... Basically the same exact voice, was actually surprised at how bad it was even though not much was expected. Cringed through 4 voices and then stopped the video because the cringe was too much, no creativity at all with how they sound.
The improvisations video with Justin Roiland is night and day with this professional!!!
If anyone cares about Jess Harnell (wakko, crash bandicoot, etc) he was Scary Terry on the same R&M episode
I'm so glad voice actors are getting a lot more recognition!
“Theo would you feed the dog?”
“NO iM gONnA EaT thE dOG!”
My favourite part of the entire video
This made me realize that Rob Paulson voices the alien Mark in Fairly Odd Parents! Don't know how I didn't already know it, but it makes me happy ❤
Mother. Father. What ARE you doing here?
@@braxinIV *wobbles tentacles in the air as the body turn into jelly*
he does a pretty good “dude” voice if you ever watched jimmy neutron the manager of mcspankys sounded identical to mark im sure theres more characters he voices with that same tone
I remember back when I first went through Rob Paulsen's Wikipedia page and was blown away by how many characters had the same voice actor XP It was around that time that I started looking up all the different voices of characters I like and started remembering the names of voice actors. Now I'm one of those people who says, "I know that voice" several times whenever I watch a pilot for a new cartoon :P
Same xD
@@Angelfreak94 that's a very festive Link picture you have there XP Someone is going to be hearing a lot "skra!" and "hup"s ;)
Funnily enough, “I Know That Voice” is a documentary about voice actors, and Rob Paulsen is featured in it.
@@karinadarjuan5418 I enjoyed "I know that voice", lot of the greats were featured, but not all of them :P
“There’s a fine line between funny and felony, an’ I ain’t gonna cross it!”
I love Rob so much
Me too
FUN FACT: I had a feeling he wouldn’t mention it since the show is aimed for really young audiences, but for those who don’t know, Rob actually does Toodles’ voices in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, debuting on Toodles’ birthday episode when he got a face and a voice. I once found the voice a bit familiar because of Donnie in the 2012 TMNT.
THEY GAVE TOODLES A FACE AND VOICE?
@@blah7983 Yep, making him an essential part of of my childhood and various others
I Love Toodles! HELLOOOOOOO TOODLES!
ive been watching this series and so far, this man has had THE MOST range. like i love all the voice actors featured, but he barely has voices that overlap. i didn't even know he did all the voices for these characters. amazing! and he has such fun with it!
Vanity Fair should also feature Frank Welker and Tara Strong, too.
Crisdean Mackinnon Frank is like a yeti lmao. You'll hear him, but he himself is a rare sight. He, Kath Soucie, and Tress MacNeille would probably never do something like this which is just tragic
I'd love to see Jess Harnell next.
Do Jim Cummings.
@@candicehoneycutt4318 Kath Soucie was on the 90s Nick block in a bunch of interviews
gars129 That was over 20 years ago. The amount of on camera/interview type stuff she's done since then is like in the single digits
This guy was a big part of my childhood. I'd tune into WB on Channel 5 every day after school!
I met him at the 2019 Michigan Comic Con on August 19. He’s one of the sweetest and caring man I’ve ever met.
Loved it when he did the nations of the world song at his panel !
He’s a legend in all ways
"I will beat you in three ways: up, down, and continuously. *smiles*"
Never thought I'd be genuinely intimidated by a cartoon goat voiced by Rob Paulsen but here we are.
"I will beat you three ways. Up, down and continuously." I'm using that.
The "Voice Actors Improvise New Voices" series is one of the best things to ever happen to UA-cam and you are 100% wrong if you say otherwise.

Agreed ! It's so neat/fun/interesting to watch them go.
Watch Twisted Toonz. It'll blow your mind and ruin your childhood
Otherwise
Talkin Toons
This is an absolute delight, and perfectly highlights Rob's tremendous talent and joie de vivre!
You get a like just for using "Joie de vivre"!
Rob's riffs are so funny. It was a joy to see him work.
Please tell me y'all have Billy West's turn stashed away and ready to go soon.
They already did him just now!
This man is a living legend
As soon as he did Yacko, I got an unbreakable ear to ear grin on my face
Animaniacs is still the most creative animated show in my history. The writing, the songs and the characters. Can't be topped in my childhood :)
I wasnt aware of how hilarious this dude is.
He is one of my favorite voice actors of all time he's up there with Jim Cummings Casey Kasem and Frank Welker
He is funny as heck I love his style of comedy
And you know what makes him a real professional? This is just for fun, but he still gives us multiple voices for most of them. You're not stuck with just one.
@@KairuHakubi I totally agree with that but that's cuz he loves his fans
Jim Cummings is definitely another beast of voice acting. And Tom Kenny of course!
@@TrateMusic and kevin Conroy and mark Hamill they should be up there as well
I just loved working with Rob. How great was it to draw four days a week and on the fifth day you get to hear Rob play funny with the voices.
Oh my god, I wish I could have recorded my face when I saw the thumbnail crop up on the front page! I LOVE Rob Paulsen, he was such a huge part of my childhood and he even let me interview him (over the phone) for my high school newspaper. Sent me a Pinky and the Brain t-shirt signed by him and Maurice LaMarche after, I still have it. Awesome.
Thanks for bringing him in, it's fun to watch him go! His Ed Wynn is spot on too.
cool!!
@@jakekumerow2895 It was honestly so cool! Such a patient guy (I was a horrible interviewer too).
I like how Rob applied multiple interpretations on some of these new characters. The disgruntled Tooth Fairy might be my favorite of the bunch, followed by the raccoon and Not-Animal.
Carl Wheezer’s cursing
He even used the n word on The Boondocks. That was the very first time I really heard him swear. It crushed me so much. Even Mrs. Skinner swore on The S Word too.
@@dannythomas417 why was carl wheezer in the boondocks?
STOP THE WORLD, I WANNA GET OFF!
@@Christoph8 You can't get off, we have five more continents to visit.
@@ee13lbp He wasn't. He played a supremacist side character on the Boondocks. He said it was hard for him to "go to that dark place" but he got paid for it, so even though he feels indifferent about the script, more were introduced to the genius that is Rob Paulsen.
I had the pleasure of meeting Rob Paulsen many years ago at a tiny little con. He is so kind and funny and even offered to talk in Raph's voice because everyone knows TMNT is the best. The world needs more people like him.
“Hello, my name is Kyle, and I am a human chia pet.” 😂😂😂😂
He along with examples such as Tom Kenny,John DiMaggio, and Grey Delise will go as one of the greatest voice actors of all time
Wow, even in his old age, Rob's done a great job taking care of himself.
He's a cancer survivor too

Are you gonna finish that Cwassont?
He has a tiktok where he says it, and a whole bunch of interviews where he does!
Also he can still sing the countries of the world song perfectly, and has added a new verse
In Denmark we also have a voice actor who is in everything. He also did Pinky’s voice which I think is kinda fun, because it seems like Rob also is in everything
"An embarrassment of riches" - Rob Paulson.
... I have to remember that one.
I have to remember 'Dancing with the SARS'
I can’t help but smile and giggle whenever he does his voices, and I laughed really hard when he swore in Carl’s voice😂
VF already featured Tom Kenny and now they have Rob Paulsen too. I just need Tara Strong in here too and my all-time faves list is complete!
Maybe Alex Hirsch? Sorry, I've been binging _Gravity Falls_ during quarantine!
Rob Paulsen is my favorite. He's hilarious.
Any chance you could get Tara Strong or Grey DeLisle to do one of these for the future?
James Bevan And Michael Bell!
Ooh, and Mark Hamill
My goodness he has so many different voices and accents in his arsenal. This is what years of voice acting looks like
What's wrong with one of the kings of voice acting talking about how amazing he is? Nothing in my book!
You should listen to his podcast then; there isn't a single story his guest can tell, that he doesn't make about himself. Regardless, he is an amazing talent
Rob Paulsen was a HUGE part of my childhood. Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain, Back at The Barnyard, Jimmy Neutron, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Planet Sheen, all of those shows I would watch religiously as a kid. When I would go to my grandparents’ house the first thing I’d do is sit down and watch Animaniacs on the Hub Network. This guy even inspired me to become a voice actress. This man is a legend and nobody else can top him.
Okay Jess Harnell, Tara Strong, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, and Tom Kenny are just as awesome but still Rob’s the best. 😎
You are an absolute legend! You've voiced so many characters, I can't even keep count. Next to Tom Kenny, Tara Strong, Grey Delisle and Kevin Michael Richardson, you are at the hierarchy of voice acting. And thanks for the great advice on improve. Growing up on some of the characters you've done, I've been practicing on improvising voices myself. So thank you for being a huge part of my childhood, Mr. Paulsen. Never stop making people laugh😁👍.
Does anyone else notice that he does like 2 voices for each one? He’s that good 🤷🏻♀️
Oh my Goodness I needed this! I had the biggest smile watching this Rob is so talented!! I got to meet him last year at a convention one of the best birthday gifts I ever got! He is one of the sweetest people I have ever met thank you, thank you Narf!

I got a chance to meet Rob when he was a special guest speaker in one of my voice acting classes in college and he is one of the nicest, funniest, sweetest humans you will ever meet. Him being such a nice dude on top of the talent is just beautiful.
Maurice LaMarche And Billy West need an episode.
The Suite Life of Zapp and Kiffy.

Love Rob Paulsen. Met him several times. He’s such a pleasure.
I miss his Talkin' Toons podcast. A VERY excellent podcast.
This is up there with Robin Williams looking through a box of stuff and riffing on what he finds.
