I’m not gonna lie. When I saw the pin top idea I chuckled a little and then I saw that it worked Amazingly lol. I’m also glad I procrastinated on replacing my guitar strings because now I can use one of the old strings instead of tossing them lol

All you need is some heavy duty nylon string and a button. Tie one end of the nylon string through the loop in the latch above the o. e. cable and run it toward the driver' side.. Punch a tiny hole through the plastic door panel in any convenient spot. Run the other end through that hole, leaving some slack hanging toward the interior. Replace the panel and pull on the string. The latch will open, and spring back. Finally, tie the button to the string, taking up enough slack so the button pulls against the interior panel. The only tools required are a pair of scissors to cut the string and an awl to punch a hole in the plastic. I even found a 1 inch diameter gray plastic button to match the interior!

Thanks for the down-to-earth and helpful video. I'm a guitarist so the idea of using a guitar string really appeals to me. 3 questions: 1) Is that a low E string you were using? 2) What alternative would you suggest to make the hole for someone who doesn't have a drill? 3) How did you determine so accurately where to drill?

Ya low E! Glad you dig. I pressed the drill directly through the backside, where the plastic screws would connect it to the door. You could do the same with a HOT nail heated over a candle (careful grip with pliers and gloves). It'll be kinda more sloppy but get the job done.

i just drilled a hole in the right spot so you can stick your finger in it and move the latch. super simple and anyone can do it.

Update for my comment below.
I was able to successfully make the latch open with the guitar string. Two things to note, 1) if u lock ur self inside, u can't open the back hatch. U hv to go to the front & unlock first. So u mind as well go out the side front door. Or use ur remote car alarm thing.😉 2) u hv to find a way to pull hard shut close the hatch while inside. Someone has to figure that one out yet. 🤔 Maybe an added handle some where? Otherwise excellent, easy method. Thx u for that video. 🙏🏽
