John Deere 1025R - Liquid Tire Ballast - Filling Windshield Washer Fluid

- We worked out the best method for adding ballast weight to our new John Deere 1025R. In this video, we show the process of filling the tires with windshield washer fluid, even though there's many other videos on UA-cam, I wanted to show some of the math considerations that others on UA-cam didn't show!
If you can tolerate minor differences, here's links for the item similar to what I got locally. I've found it very hard to get a good prices for windshield washer fluid online, so you may want to make a run to your local super-center to price check first.

We're going to be filling the ballast box with bricks we got from the camera crew's folks for free, but they would be fairly inexpensive if you had to source them. The next cheapest method we were considering was 60 lbs bags of Quikrete. This too is also tough to find for cheap online. It's a local buy, if you ask me...but for those of you who can't get to a store, here's a link - amzn.to/2qgZF36

This was the best video I've seen on how to do this. I was about to do it using gravity until I found your video and realized I had a sump pump sitting on the shelf for over 30 years I put it in a bucket of water and thankfully it still worked. I came up with some adapter is to make it all work together and it went very quick with no issues.
So glad we could help. I've now done it TWICE, and 900+ lbs added to our much larger Kioti DK6010 SE, and what a GAME CHANGER this effort will bring!
Thanks for watching, and for the comment Wade!
This was hands down the best guide. And my brother in law is a metrologist, tuning and fixing precision scales- so no need to apologize for your extensive research. Not my personality, but Jesus makes all types! And because of it I could ROLL with this project with confidence and not get TIRED.
Huge thanks.

2 Chronicles 16:9
Thanks Andrew! You GET IT ;)
We did this again in our newer 60hp Kioti DK6010SE, and it was a lot more work, but we also were able to add about 950 lbs of weight - very helpful!
Brian, I'm glad I live out West, doesn't get that cold here. I don't envy you in the cold country.
It sucks when it's cold, but the length of daylight is the worst part. Suppose I get home from work at 4:30 PM, it's dark in 10 minutes!!! Puke!
Wow wow wow!!! I never knew how interesting rc model aircraft engineering could be (lol) and somewhat entertaining as well until this moment, you and your camera crew are the best 🤗♥️ thanks for sharing, regards, Alan, UK.
LOL - Gotta love these RC Aircraft projects!!! Thanks for watching anyway! I'm glad I did it too...the weight worked out well, and it was a fairly easy project. If I wasn't filming, I bet I could have done it in 2-3 hours including time to and from Menards.
I went with -50 RV Antifreeze. It was the same price as window washing fluid at Walmart, weighs a little more per gallon, and is non-toxic (WWF cannot be made non-toxic). I would have used Rim Guard, but it is not available in my area, and shipping 110 gallons would cost a fortune!
I'm not sure there is anyone else on earth who can spend 13:40 describing the process of adding ballast to tractor tires with the possible exception of Mike Rowe who once interviewed for a job on QVC by spending five minutes describing a pencil ... That's one heckofa sentence , ain't it ! 🤣
Maybe you an I could double it, if we tried :) LOL
Putting weight in the front tires will help with lowering the center of gravity of the tractor, helping with side to side stability. I believe it will however take away from ( or at the least, not add to ) the counter weight , and purpose of putting weight in the back tires to offset the weight of a load in the bucket. Also, as you said, the front tires will be stiffer and ride quality will suffer. Seems like a decision people will have to decide what advantages and disadvantages weighting the front tires does.
yeah, but I need weight., so I can resist tipping over. Loader counterweight hasn't been a big issue for me yet, but now that I have a mini baler (which is hardly MINI), I'm SOOOOOO glad I did this. The few extra pounds down low has been to the detriment of the ride quality, for sure, but it's nice knowing there's almost to additional weight on the axle from the tire being full, and still keeps her stuck to the ground just that little bit more ;)
I also used a few dead loadcells from axle scales too, and painted them to match, then zip tied them to the loader leg (folds up under the loader arm) and they add over 100 lbs too! Plus that part is 2/3 on the left side, so when I haul an item that hangs to the Right, I'm putting the counterweight where I need it.
It is strange to me, adding weight for a better experience, since I fly these RC airplanes, where weight is the absolute enemy ;)
Hi Brian always enjoy your videos great job ..and right at the end loved your interpretation of how to
Use an ironing board....store an Airbus A380 on it lol 😂 best wishes Chris
Actually, it's a BROKEN one ;) LOL
I forgot I slipped in that airplane storage clip :)
Does the transmitters u have with screens on it have safe mode on it
SAFE is on the receiver, not the Transmitter, so no it doesn't
How would u put diesel in the tractor
Diesel is on the top, right by where the driver sits. I have a hat sitting over that spot, which might have obstructed your view of the green diesel cap.
You should run the pressure lower because liquid doesn't compress. Your tractor will ride harshly at 20psi. I'd try 10psi , maybe less. Maybe I'd even fill it up to the valve at the 12 o'clock position and not add any air.
I was thinking about that too, but don't want to lose the bead if I hit something hard...
I think the ride has been pretty good since adding the weight, but BOY can you feel it!!! When I put on the ~650lbs+ Ballast box she drives different! After using the heck out of our 1025R, I can't hardly believe how capable it is while at the same time, I can see why having a bigger tractor would be really nice. Such a double edged sward...I need to get into tight areas, but need the power and hydraulic pressure to get work done...what I really want is to have about 25% more power on the hydraulics on the 1025R, without destroying the loader.

... or a 2038 🤣
Too much more money for not enough increase in specs.... I would go for a larger 3 series, or 4 series next...but they too are ultra pricey!
What was that windshield for
In the wheels for weight :)
Was that tire kind of flat
When you ask a question like this DragonBall King, you gotta time stamp it, so I know what you're talking about.
US Gallons is why your estimates were off, its only 0.8 of imperial gallons
Maybe they used the bottle weight to get the 8 pounds
Wait so that Boeing 747 rc plane flew by it’s self like how
Hold on... I need you to time stamp your remarks, so I know the context of your comment.
It was to put air in the tire
Air in the top when the washer fluid is full with the stem at 12 o'clock.
Bruh that was a lot of gallons of those fluid
yes, and it worked well! I used the tractor to move a huge 16 foot log today. I added the bricks to the ballast box and that added another 550 lbs, on top of the 218 lbs worth of fluid from this job, my tractor is up to 2,838 lbs, up from 2,070 lbs, or a 37% increase! The rule of thumb is a tractor can tow about 1.5 times its weight, so I went from 3,105 lbs towing capacity to 4,2557 lbs!!! (1,152 lbs increase!). That's a lot more weight!!!
Live stream once
Negative Ghostride...for now at least.
Drive it around as you do have wife film loose nut behind steering wheel.
Que?
Man this video needed to be cut down to 15 minutes.
Great Idea!!!! But wait, it's already super easy to do, use that small double arrow at the bottom of the screen, or click on the GEAR and select faster playback speed.
Some people want more detail, and some want a quicker overview. You have the option now, but if I cut it down, you don't have the option for more detail.
