I have this chair at home and an aeron at work, both around 7 years old. Both creak pretty bad. I took apart my Diffrient World, wiped off any dust and lubed up anything that seemed like a moving part. It fixed the vast majority of the noise. I may need to bring in some tools to strip down my work chair... If you read through the forum topic in the video description, you will see that the person that posted this video fixed their issue with a good relube.
This chair of mine has some loose signs, but I do not know how to repair it, worry that it can not be restored after disassembling, there is no video tutorial online, how do you do it?
Yo, I just came on here to say I just bought this chair for 40 bucks used... I'm 6ft 300lbs. The chair doesn't make noise for me. I have several humanscale chairs-they're all awesome. There is no noiseless chair out there. Use dry silicone lube or lithium grease for plastic on plastic parts. The chair is very light and good looking... mine is green mesh, green seat, and white. If you're looking for an ergonomic chair-this one is good!
@@song1861 Okay, well this video sucks. I'm gonna have to upload my own damn video and answer comments on my own video. I'm like... creating too much traffic for this nerd and his squeeky chair.
@@MakinaDeMuerte I'm pretty sure there's grease or oil specifically for it, right? Haven't messed with it much other than soap and water and the occasional alcohol clean on the coasters. What'd you use for the lubrication? I don't mind the noise as it keeps me accountable of my weight lol. What would wd-40 result in?
@@christianlopez-iz7ne I didn't need to lube up my chair... I cleaned it with automotive interior sprays for trims /plastic/rubber/vinyl/fabric and tightened up some screws with my electronic repair kit. I'm 300lbs, find the chair very sturdy and comfortable.
I bought this chair a little over a month ago. I almost didn't buy one, because there were so many complaints online about the noise. (This would be bad, since I write music.) I decided to take the chance, and I don't regret it. Mine is not noisy at all. I'm not sure if this develops with time, or if it's just that they fixed this issue. I love this chair.
@@stevecoatesdotnet I appreciate your videos. They were the reason I went ahead and bought one...strange as it might seem. You showed how to fix the problem, so I took the plunge. I figured worse case scenario, I could at least keep the noise at bay.
@@michaelsethcudd Mine is still in good condition and comfortable after several years now. I dismantled it and replaced the grease with some much thicker grease and it has stayed quiet ever since. Its a bit fiddly to dismantle/reassemble but its doable. Hopefully yours will stay quiet.
Thanks for the insight. Was the chair creaky straight away or did it take time to develop? Yours is the only critical view of this chair I can find, everything else is advertising propaganda.
I too noticed a shortage of critical reviews. I personally tried the chair out in a shop and rather liked it. I seem to remember it being quiet when I got it, but the noise developed after a year or so. The noise seems to originate from the metal rails which the piece you sit on can slide in and out on. I managed to silence it by spraying some fresh lithium grease (out of an aerosol can) into those rails. Its now much better. It is otherwise still a comfortable chair.
Good to find this video. I got this one recently - white frame and gray mesh. It is very noisy, but the most annoying thing is that my butt bones keep touching the frame under the seat although I'm not heavy (less than 145 lbs)! It feels like I'm sitting on a metal frame. I think the mesh seat is too loose? Did you or does anyone have a similar issue?
Depending on where I sit on the mesh, my bones only just touch the plastic underneath. If I sit further back, the mesh supports me well. If I lift my feet off the floor, and don't put any weight on my back (thus all the weight goes on the sit bones), then it does touch the plastic quite significantly. It is possible that your mesh is somehow too loose, or it could just be the way you are sitting. It may be worth enquiring with humanscale about it if it is causing you a problem. Do read the pinned comment (by Genji Shimada) for details of how to disassemble and lubricate the chair to fix the noise issues, although if yours is new, you'd be better off dealing with it as a warranty claim. I hope that helps; do let us know how you get on.
Does anybody else use the chair in the office that is massively overweight? With that much cracking I was expecting an elephant to be sitting on it, not a slim guy like you. It sounds like it has been through hell and back!
I think it's made with recycled parts and the construction of the chair makes it light... if you already have back problems you don't want to have to move around a heavy chair.
Hi Nick,
I work for Humanscale and spotted your video, so I've passed this onto our head engineer Tim to make contact.
Cheers Mike
Love the re-enactment bit the most. You're a legend, please make more videos.
Thank you for making this video. Didn't realize it had such a glaring problem.

Bought a new freedom task chair with headrest and was having this problem. Thank you
I really hope you didn't use wd-40....

@@christianlopez-iz7ne Yeah bruh, dry silicone spray or lithium grease for plastic on plastic. WD-40 decays plastic.

Thanks, helpful video.
holy shit, i would not be able to deal with that!!!
This video looks like it was filmed in between 1995-2005. Was this actually filmed in 2017?
Thanks for the review - very thourough.
I was going to buy a Humanscale chair. This video has made me think twice.
What chair did you end up getting?

I put some grease on the moving parts and it is a lot better now. Its not silent though.

wd40 and done

I literally just bought this chair used for 40 and it's silent. I'll be lubing it up with some dry silicone spray anyway.
I’ve checked a new one at a show room and it was quiet, I think you need to update your review my friend
Why would someone update their review based on your experience? Main character syndrome…
