From this video and past ones it is good to see I'm on the right track. I have improved and still a lot more to go. Thank you for the tips. Now to go and practice some more.
" a couple things.." LOL! Head position, core and hips up, torso rotation angle, reach, catch and breathing... Basically, change entire stroke! Your videos have been great! Just like golf, focus on one thing at a time. The process and order of operations are more helpful one step at a time. You've helped me get 35 seconds faster/100m in 4 months! Thanks for the in-depth breakdowns!
You give good information, which is why I appreciate and am subscribed to your channel, but I was a bit annoyed by the misleading title: ‘Do less… to go fast’. I kept waiting for you to explain what you meant by that, but you never did. A more accurate title might be something like ‘Correcting head position and the catch’
I have been able to achieve perfect body alignment with a tight core by training with a swim brick. I use a contoured brick that fits between my upper thighs. I can push off the side and glide nearly half the length of the pool in perfect alignment. I love swimming combat side stroke with it. I also hug it like a football while i swim, do flip turns with it between my thighs, and tons of other artistic movements. Try it!
he must be tall, even Popovici had a lot of mistake when he broke the world record, in Freestyle swimming it's all about being tall so as Backstroke too!
Never too much of a fan of side kick, it disperses propulsion laterally, stresses the hip by alternating sides and in open water swimming makes it harder to swim on a straight line and keeping your course. I'm a big fan of rotating the torso sideways WHILE keeping the legs pointing to the bottom, this is the way dolphins tail fins are designed to work. Your student needs to sink that front leading hand/arm more to get more lift and wait for the other hand to get there before he catches with it, he's losing momentum by disengaging a streamline position.
@R Ka seems more like they state the best time the athlete ever managed to do for 100m, while an average tempo pace that the athlete might hold for 10x100m comfortably would be a way better indicator..
@@שריאללרר to swim more efficiently... If he can swim with less drag he can lower his heart rate and swim further, or put in the same effort in an efficient way to swim faster. His stroke is not terrible but there is plenty of room for improvement.
Yea these trialonist always going something like 1.30 and i think the real thing in normal pace is between 1.50-2.00. But, some these persons are tall so they can have some advantages?
My first thought seeing him swim, is that he never gets full arm extension before starting his pull. Arm never goes straight. That could be part of the low elbow.
Not that we should put much energy into the kick but his ankles are completely stiff. Great range of motion on the pointing of toes (plane of top of foot at least parallel with the plane of the shins) but should by ankles should be springy, not locked.
For the AUTHOR: Did you EVER swim in open waters? I mean at least 8kilometers? Did you ever participate at a triathlon swimming probe (open waters)? Did you even (at least) WATCHED carefully an open waters competition? Scuse me, but i'm pretty shure all the answers are NO. If you're sincere, of course..
The guy swims like me. His biggest problem is his kick. His hips are totally blocked and hardly rotate and he gets no movement in his ankles. he needs to move his kees more on he downstroke

wow i haven't been able to even improve 1 second/50m in half a year :(
I’m sorry to hear that.
Film yourself, ask someone to help even.
Keep trying and get those laps in!
I've only viewed 1:23min of your video and have learned so much!
Solid start! Thank you Sir.
As usual, excellent break down!
Great analysis of the stroke, thank you.
You are an actual legend! Thanks for sharing these invaluable videos!
Thank you Gerard!

Amazing video 🙂 you made freestyle swimming very clear and simple

So many things wrong but still manages 1:30 per 100
Who needs good technique:)
1:30 is most probably his best, not average over long distance

Interesting video.
Did you share the core principles link?

Great video 🎉
If you try to get your shoulder out of the water during recovery... wouldn't the other shoulder have to go deeper and under?
There's no way this is 1'30"/100m pace with this form..
@R Ka seems more like they state the best time the athlete ever managed to do for 100m, while an average tempo pace that the athlete might hold for 10x100m comfortably would be a way better indicator..
My thoughts as well..
With 1:30 per 100
Why bother improving his technique..

Agreed with that form it's no way a 1.30 for a 100... legs too low, arms not reaching...
1.30/100 x 10 in intervals.... I did it and it feel like I just roasted my whole body... Water wasn't cold anymore...
I’ve got the same form and felt slow every time taking a breathe

Fingers should come first and then Arms, and his early vertical forearm is also incorrect, and arms go straight once you do the perfect pull!
Probably pick up a bit of speed too if he went to every 3rd breath instead if 2. I get so tired breathing on 2.

Honestly, i feel lots of people want to vo fast befor they know how to swim in the first place.
No matter what you do, form first!

why not talking to his kick?
Breathing very hard
Extreme dropped elbows....
Forearms barely get vertical behind his shoulders.
If he thinks this guy is bad, look at the fella in the back... uses his legs like boat anchors :)

I know what I've been doing wrong thanks 👍
I do all errors :)
