  • If you're not sure what to practice next or need new ideas. I created a guitar syllabus that details what to practice for all levels of players. I split it into 5 areas Single note playing, chords, misc. optional & ideas for both single note & chord playing. #guitarpractice #guitarsyllabus #intermediateguitar #beginnerguitarlessons #advancedguitarlessons
The overview sheet can be downloaded for free on my Patreon page (you don't have to be a member) / ericnaylorguitar if you like the video please subscribe, click like, leave a comment on you tube or become a member (& donate) on Patreon I would much appreciate any of those.
    Thanks for watching

If you're just starting out here are some fundamentals like reading Tab & tuning that I would cover in a 1st lesson (I will probably in the future add a video covering this stuff for very beginners, but this channel started out aimed at intermediate & advanced players so I'm still adding some of the beginner stuff 👍) Tab or Tablature is a simple way to get music off of paper & there are many free sites that post songs in Tab (such as songsterr). In Tab the numbers represent the fret you place your finger at (put your finger next to the metal fret but not on it & towards the body of the guitar) a 0 would be an open note (no finger) a 1 would be the 1st fret (the 1st space between the metal bars (also called frets) starting up by the tuners) as you go towards the body of the guitar the numbers just get bigger with the dots (look at my guitar some guitars don't have dots) are at 3rd fret, 5th, 7th, 9th double dots at 12 these are to find your place quicker so you don't have to count each fret. What tells you which string to play is there are 6 lines in Tab each line represents a string so the bottom line on the Tab represents your thickest string (6th string) so a 5 on the bottom line would be place your finger in the 5th fret on the thickest string. So the top line (one towards top of page) on Tab would be your thinnest string. (1st string) if numbers are over top of each other you hit them all at the same time. With Tab you're still reading standard music rhythm notation here is a link to my video on reading rhythms ua-cam.com/video/6kkPU2UoZDY/v-deo.html For tuning your guitar either buy a tuner or download a free app on your phone your string names are from your thickest to thinnest E, A, D, G, B, E when you use a tuner it will show the note you're playing tune each string to the note listed above if in between two notes it will show a sharp # or flat b for example in between A & B would be A# or Bb either way if tuning to A loosen string till it says A or going to B tighten string till you hit B going higher in the alphabet you tighten the string lower loosen the string. Many tuners will use colored lights green means in tune or red out of tune, there will often also be a line, note name or bar in the center that represents in tune if the line/bars goes to the right this means you need to loosen the string if the lines go to left tighten the string till the lines disappear or are in the center. Also if buying a tuner there should be instructions or ask the salesperson to demonstrate it if confused. But hope this helps also 🙂
