      Very much like our former President here in South Africa. Jacob Zuma was even jailed by the Constitutional Court and still walked away scot free. It’s called the Stalingrad Technique. The damage that Zuma and his cronies did to SA, is incalculable, yet they remain untouchable. Bibi is following in the footsteps of massive criminals in politics and the only loser ever is the population. It’s deeply sad.

    The fact that people agree that Netanyahu should resign only after the war and not now gives Netanyahu more incentive to keep the war going on without actually doing anything substantial to delay his ousting.

      @Mandems973 the occupation will end only in a peace treaty that would guarantee Israel's safety. Gaza stopped being occupied in 2005, and look where we are now. And before you start talking about the blockade - it was put in place in 2007, after Hamas took over Gaza and refused to recognize Israel's right to exist as both means of security as well as economical sanctions to make them change their mind. There's a saying that goes along the lines of, the people most against war are warriors. In contrast to the USA where war is conducted by a small corps of professionals, relative to population, in Israel almost everyone is subject to conscription. A large chunk of the electorate will directly experience the cost of any war conducted by the politicians and they'll definitely make their discomfort felt at the polls if they feel the war was avoidable.

      That's actually not true in the general case. The "rally around the flag" effect is very real here in Israel, and is well documented (and abused) in previous engagements with both Hamas and the PIJ.
      The reason this isn't happening is that Netanyahu severely weakened the ruling bodies, surrounded himself with yes-men, and enacted dangerous policies. Pretty much every single professional (from treasury to army) warned him that this will have real world consequences, not just "oh this is unpopular" but real "the shekel will drop" and "our security will be compromised" consequences. And it ended up happening on his watch, alongside a huge HUGE failure of intelligence, as well as a complete lack of function to this day, 11 days after the start of the war (pretty much all of the supporting structures for survivors/displaced are voluntary citizen projects that sprung bottom up, the government isn't functioning to this day).

Palestinians never actually wanted to come to terms with the idea of an Israeli state, the idea that they have to give up the pre-1967 lands and the ideal of a Palestinian state from the river to the sea, which they chant still to this day.
      A 2-state solution, if it would've been implemented, would've resulted in a larger Gaza scenario. When Israel disengaged from Gaza, the Gazans voted Hamas. What did they do with their freedom? When a leader's position internally becomes uncertain, it may be very tempting to thrash out externally very hard. Given that the current leadership has shown incompetence in defending the nation (probably because who the security minister is), it's difficult to see them any better in the counter-attack. Sure enough, they seem to have come up with nothing better than pushing very hard indiscriminately into a densely populated area causing a humanitarian catastrophe.

    You would be surprised when you go to Israel. It is completely a mixed and secular society with a lot of open-minded people. Basically, anyone you speak to is fed up with religious people from both sides, Palestinians or Israelis. But just like in every other country, there are always the religious nuts and the fundamentalists with deep ideology, the ones that speak for everyone and claim to have the moral high ground. Benjamin Netanyahu is one of those. The day that one's personal religious belief is separated from everyday policy will be the day that Israel and Palestine have peace.

      @TheRealSpeedWolf Рік тому +2

      @@canelo1728 One state, one country governed by the people for the people, with laws that treat everyone equally. However, it will never work due to religious ideology from all sides. Palestinians and Israelis have an equal claim historically, whether one likes it or not. Neither of them wants to capitulate due to religious differences. Both sides have suffered greatly, and human beings act with emotion, not with logic. The day that religion is reserved as someone's personal belief separate from logic will be the day that Palestine and Israel become one nation that ensures the well-being of everyone. This is because there will be no favoritism, only equality with equal opportunities, something that many young Palestinians and Israelis desire. Religion distracts from what is truly important, which is enjoying your life comfortably with the people you care about, but instead, we get this stupidity. Voltaire said during the Enlightenment, 'Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities,' and he said that 200 years ago.
