Hi Joe, one thought before going to bed. Here is the Poly Mathematics Flashlight Law: Pick two, you get only two. 1) High lumen output. 2) Good portability. 3) Good run time before thermal throttling.
I'm almost positive this is the only double cell SBT90.2 that has a buck driver. Unless there's a buck in a single cell 21700/26650/26800 SBT90.2 thrower somewhere that I missed, this is as good as you'll get to a usable duty light for an SBT90.2 until you step up to the Amutorch DM90. I love constant current drivers, and this is the best you can do with the L7.
A big advantage the L7 has against the L8 is that it runs with two 26650's. They have together more capacity than the 26800 from the L8 and a 26800 is rare and expensive if you want to exchange it. Despite it I like the L8 more because it's the better thrower (bigger reflector). I wish the L8 could be used with two 26650's.
Indeed, if it kept the UI but had a buck driver with regulation like the L7 and ran on 2 cells (6-7.4volts) it would be more attractive to me. Currently the 26800 cells only give around 20% more run time than the 26650s so the gains aren't great considering how hard they are to source. That said running two cells in series doesn't give twice the capacity (just twice the voltage) so that's something to consider as well. The L8 certainly is impressive but for me the L7 still seems a better choice despite a little less throw; what I would love to see though is the full range of control on both switches . Both look to be amazing lights for the price.
Great to see your take on the L7, I think this will be my next and final torch for some time. Seems more efficient than the L8 MOSFET driver despite the somewhat lesser throw; and I like that there are multiple cell options with the extension tubes. Worth noting that stacking cells in series gives twice the voltage but not twice the MaH, hopefully I can source some good 26800 cells. Would be great to see a direct comparison with the L8. According to the tracking, tomorrow being Sunday, mine should arrive on Monday. I bought two more Keep Power cells with the light. Next videos we should all have to take a shot every time you say "You guys" and see who lasts the longest...lol. Great video!
The L8 driver has 25 amps of output current and the L7 has 20.5 amps so it should have less lumen output than the L8. I don’t think it’s a big deal though, like you said the L8 gets hotter. To me it doesn’t seem the SBT90 gets much brighter after a certain limit but still creates much more heat. My TS30S is only a very little bit brighter on turbo vs high but goes from manageable heat in high to burning hot in turbo.
Tip. Never ever drop your battery’s into the battery tube like you did in this video ! Even in lights that have a spring on the PC board. You risk damaging the board or the battery. You don’t realize the massive pin point impact your causing with a drop in like that. Just a tip.

I recently seen someone use two of the battery extension pieces from the m3c on an L7 so they could run two 26800 cells. I know you like big flashlights so I thought you'd get a kick out of that.

Yes it was $58 plus tax on sale I paid $61 and it is an amazing light IMHO especially being able to use them double 26800 cells for runtime and the molicel p45b for maximum power a must have light IMHO.
i did get most of all the little lights o wamted like the sofrin SC18 and the SC21 pro and the SC31 pro and i got a fireflylite PO3 and i love it so yeah i got plenty of small lights now i need a few bigger throwers like this one and i still need the convoy C8+ and then a couple others and then im good to go for ahwile so yeah i need like 300 dollars more in lights then ill be happy lol
mr Smooth make a try out with some other batteries for this L7! shockli imren moli or some vapcell at laest 20A or the keepppower coz Simon recomends with that as i see
