A key feature launched in NAD’s famous 3020 was SoftClipping, which prevented the amplifier from “clipping” - a phenomenon caused by crescendos of music that required dynamic power that many A/B amplifiers of the time could not produce, and that often damaged the speakers connected to the amplifier.

I'm a musician on a journey to rediscover the gear from the times I grew up in. Thank you for being in the right place at the right time, with 'resonant' information!

I have one. I have had 4 since 1981. It has a special sound. I just wish they would make an amp that sounds as good now. Maybe they will do a special retro 3020 model like their other recent release.

Hi, I purchased one of these back in 1982/3 I can’t use it as a preamp connected to 100 W Cambridge power amp, Both of which worked fine until 2019 we have a summer no reason both of them packed up at the same time and blow my speakers in my transmission lines, I could not find anybody to repair them as I live in rural part of France and I ended up buying a secondhand NAD 314 which was secondhand off the Internet for my company over in the UK it arrived safe and sound I’ve been using that ever since, it is now the main amp to drive my transmission line speakers, after about five or six months I’ve managed to buy a new driving and it’s made by Seas , 150w at 8ohms .
And now I’m actually having problems with the phono stage occasionally I get a hum come through, I’ve always found these products give very good detail and clarity of sound with a good Bass response, Due to my circumstances I cannot afford new ones so I will be going out at some point finding something secondhand on web which will be a shame, I used to use a Linn LP12 record deck which again I purchased in 19 8283 secondhand for £400 the person I purchased it off I was upgrading to a different make, And however this has packed up in 2021 appears the main board and the motor has packed up the table started to oscillate, Now this sits on my table as a piece of art as I cannot afford to have it repaired as I have been quoted £1600 for repair, It took me nearly 8 months to save up a small amount of money I’m half an hour I’ve purchased a Yamaha 500 record deck secondhand as well, Oh the joys of being retired just living off my state pension time I’ve paid my bills each month I do not have a lot of money left, Luckily I live in rural France it might sound very nice which is the cost to live in is a little bit cheaper here than back in the UK I think if I was there I’ll be on the streets from what I’ve heard from colleagues the cost of living over there is horrendous. I do wish I was back at work at least then I could pay my way and buy some new equipment. I’m 71 years young in four weeks time, I cannot go out and even buy myself a birthday present, sorry for explaining my plight, The main part of this has been due to my ex partner I think it’s called a scam I’ve been scammed for hundreds of thousands of pounds over the last 15 years.
Going back to your equipment NAD I suppose in some respect I’ve had good service from it I just wish I could go out and purchase some new equipment, I have left numerous comments on your product when you have uploaded articles on your equipment and I’ve never had a reply.

Why can't you use the 3020 as a preamp to the Cambridge?
