What a great way to end the year, Kelvin is back. Looking foward to watching your future content. Please do not ever feel that you have nothing new to add, you are a pleasure to listen to whether reviewing equipment or just listening to your knowlege on audio and music.
@@stereoreviewx Like you I've been into hifi for over 4 decades. Using my ears not relying on reviews alone. Not just about absolute sound quality but what what I find enjoyable to listen to. I've owned pieces from high end manufacturers aswell as mass market ones. 70s models my fave. Onkyo & Luxman my personal favourites along with older Sansui models with regards to amplifiers & receivers. Can you review any older Onkyo & Luxman models?!
Welcome back Kelvin! ...have to say no one does vintage audio reviews like you and its such a joy to watch the vids and learn from the years of experience you have in this hobby/passion. Since you started this channel I have amassed 6x vintage amps (mix of rotel, arcam and sansui), 4xspeakers (mix of mordaunt shorts, pioneer and celestion). Now that you are back I am worried I will start collecting again and there is no more room in my place to hold more gear :-)..Thanks!
Welcome back, man! Thought you’d either given up on this channel or were seriously ill or had passed away. Glad you’re ok…always appreciate your perspective on hi-fi.
I really like your reviews, and I'm glad you're back. What I most like is the fact that most of the equipment you review is quite affordable. While it maybe fun to dream about equipment that costs more than the average new car, the reality is that most us would just get joy out of making the most from what we can afford. Looking forward to hearing a lot more from you in the future. BTW I agree with your comments on the NAD equipment. I have a NAD 3020 connected to a set of bookshelves that I designed and built , and a NAD 1020a coupled to a Perreaux PMF 2150B connected up to Bose 901s series 3 (yes I know that they are not hifi, but they are a conversation starter). I have recapped both the NADs and love the sound they produce. Hopefully they'll keep going for many more years. A big hello from Australia.
Kelvin, I would like to say thanks for getting me into 1970s amps and speakers, during lockdown. Still enjoying them and buying the odd one now and then.
I am sooo glad to see you! Your videos are terrific. You express a lot of the feelings I do about the hobby (especially that last one abut streaming! Spot on!!) . I missed you and your take on things. I have have an old NAD tuner that I bought new in 1989! There were used things from the 70's that could be better (Sansui, Marantz ..??) But NADs of that era, for that price new in the late 80's early 90's, were one of the best going. Welcome back!!
Can't believe you're back! I learned a lot about audio stuff all this time you weren't here and now I do appreciate your videos a lot more! Great review thank you Kelvin!
Great to have you back on the airwaves again Kelvin. I only caught your channel after you finished posting videos so it's really good to see new reviews
Good to see you back mate. The Hi-Fi world needs your down-to-earth realism and experience. You are an island of sense and integrity in a sea of clownery.
Nice to see you back Kelvin. I was starting to run out of your older videos to watch before I listen to music. Your enthusiasm for great sound puts me in the perfect mindset (mood) to really enjoy the sound of my system. We have to analyze to notice the differences between different gear (sound), but we can't get so caught up in the analysis where we forget about the music. You are very good at finding the happy medium and I really appreciate your example my friend.
You're back! I bought a recapped 3150 (the bigger, bigger brother) from eBay a few years ago. Bought as I needed the features it offered but was pleasantly surprised by its sound quality. I later found out Stereophile had given it a class B rating and have been looking for a copy of that review since. Interesting video. Watchers here might want to search UA-cam for "nad electronics: 50 years of truth"
I bought an old NAD preamp and sadly it died relatively quickly. I was surprised because I thought they all were very durable, but apparently many of them did fail with age and use. I really appreciate Kelvin's honesty and thoroughness in these reviews.
i really used to enjoy watching your videos, and I thought you'd gone. So pleased that I randomly checked and discovered that you're back. Very entertaining and interesting, just as before.
I have this amp but not turned it on in about 20 years. Bought (on HP!) from Hifi Corner, Edinburgh. Paired with Dual CS505-2 and Tannoy Mercury speakers. Basically a typical, entry level, system for those on a budget. I was a young civil servant who spent much of his salary on rent and beer! Great amp - packed sufficient punch with uncluttered delivery. I still have all my vinyl in the attic. I'm retiring later this year and there's a hifi repair guy in the town next to mine who's going to service the system and hopefully I'll be able to enjoy my old records once again. Thanks for posting - love your channel.
Great to have you back Kelvin, I'm still using my NAD 3150.. We've been together since I bought her new 38 years ago !! I've recently replaced all the electrolytics with modern Panisonic caps.. Hopefully we will be spending many more years together.. :)
Waaaahhhheeeeey, he's back. 🙂 Good to hear you talking us through these vintage lovelies again Kelvin. My interest in hi-fi always ramps up in winter, so it's perfect timing…
Nice to see my ol' 3130 here again. I was running the NAD tape deck with it and the disc player. Had it for about 12 years before things started falling apart. Thanks for bringing this up.
Kelvin, you came back what a delightful way for waking up on Sunday to find you are helping us all again. Missed your videos so much. Very interesting content today keep it coming.
HI BUDDY. OMG. I AM SOOO GLAD TO SEE YOUR BACK. THIS MADE MY YEAR JUST WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS AND SEEING THEM POSTED A YEAR AGO AND NOW YOUR BACK. YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST ON MY LIST. AND WERE SOOO GLAD TO SEE YOUR BACK. OLDER AUDIENCE AND YOUR NEWLY FOUNDED AUDIENCE IM SO HAPPY
Welcome Back, chap. Nice surprise to see u back, hope your keeping well, your a great guy, and your Channel is absolutely brilliant . Looking forward to future videos.🙂
I am very happy to hear from you again. I had watched the old videos again and again and also bought the B&O S75. Wonderful speakers. Thanks for the tip!
Great to have you back Kelvin and thanks for another detailed review. I still enjoy my Nad 3020 which I use as a pre-amp into a Nad 2140 which significantly ups the power (50w) without compromising the 3020's signature sound imho.
I'm sorry I missed this coming out three weeks ago. A new Kelvin video is the best Christmas present I could have imagined. Now for the tough part... I have to go looking for a damn NAD amplifier because you've peaked my interest. O.o (BTW, had to edit to say Merry Christmas Kelvin and all the viewers out there too!)
I accidentally deleted my previous post. I will agree with the posters here. I missed your reviews and your ability to just use plain language to tell us what something sounds like, features and especially the reasons why something’s are the way they are. Welcome back Brother, we’ve been waiting patiently for your return😊
Glad to have you back Kelvin. Always enjoy your review. Your channel has stimulated me to go into vintage gear. Thanks to your reviews, I now have the Sansui AU101 & AU317, and a few others. Look forward to hearing more from you. Thank you.
I still remember hearing the NAD 3020 and A&R A60 at Grahams Hifi in London in 1979. I was coming from a Rotel RA 311 (if I remember right). The NAD and A60 were both a big revelation to me, and I bought the A60, but loved the 3020 almost as much: they both brought real life to the music.
The 3020 was my entry point to this obsession/ disease, career . I still have it up in the attic. It was what I needed to get started down the rabbit hole.
@@stereoreviewx I am now going through a stage where I am trying to get the best for a budget but not completely compromising the quality. I have a budget streamer and SMSL DO 100 DAC with balanced cables that feed the signal to my Schitt Freya + ( boutique tubes) powered by a Peachtree Gan400 amp and Magnepan LRS + speakers ( waiting for the magnariser stands) .
Welcome back. Recently bought a 7150 and it sounds very close to what you describe. It has a ton of dynamics and the NAD invention soft clipping. Cheers
Great to see you back kelvin. I use a 3100 in to a 2600 power amp and absolutely love it. I’ve had more expensive more sought gear and prefer the sound of these old NADs
We sure do love the Sansui AU-317! Must add some of these NAD to the quiver, too. The MM/MC Phono switch is a really nice feature for this tier. Glad to see you back on The Tube.
I paid £60 about 10 years for a 3130. About a year ago the volume pot started crackling so I used some of that contact cleaner and it fixed the issue for about 8 months until it started happening again. I replaced the amp with a Rotel A11 Tribute last month was £430 so a decent price compared to RRP (going to keep the 3130 though and clean it out again). Amazing that it's now worth more than I paid haha. So nice having a remote on the A11 finally!
Great to hear from you again Kelvin! I have to agree that it's a worthwhile feature to have separate Pre-amp / Power-amp connections. In my case, I use a pair of Shure 106 crossovers set at 500 hz to separate my Polk Subwoofer, using my Marantz 1090. Very handy, sonically very clean.
Great review Kelvin! Good to see you back! :) Another gem that as a result is hard to find atleast here in Sweden is the NAD 3225PE.. very good sounding. I ran it back in the day with JPW AP3s and it was glorious, and later with Dali 102s
He's back - the sound man is back! I have both Nad amps mentioned, and i agree. But i do not have much to compare them with to be absolutely fair. Yes they put a smile on my face time and again. Will you be reviewing, Kelvin, the B&W Dm110i ..please please!
We're saved. Kelvin is back!
Is he Kelvin ..or Calvin ?
