Could you upload an extended 5-10 minute clip of just Q*bert swearing noises? I’d love to use it as a bleeper!

Warren Davis is an awesome fellow too. My wife and I managed to shake his hand in Milwaukee, Orlando and Atlanta all in the same year. At one point during the show in Atlanta, he asked if we were just following him around, but I had to disappoint him by telling him that we were also exhibitors at each of the shows and by coincidence we were at the same shows. I remember him talking about this chip and saying that basically they were going to mock the design and its function. He said he felt like it belonged in kids' toys and left it at that. Who knew it would become so popular once it fell into obsolescence. But then, there's a handful of components that have fallen into the realm of demand, while the supply is rated "Unobtainium," I believe the ATARI "POKEY" chip is also in that category.

I'm currently trying to obtain a pokey chip on the cheap that I can add emulation for it to my SoundginZ.

The answer to your question is that every new channel on UA-cam begins and stays pathetically small until the great and powerful overload UA-cam algorithm deams them worthy of promoting.

Experiencing a great deal of both frustration and relief having just found this video after spending the better part of two days brushing up on my C++ basics to do pretty much exactly what your library and kit already do. *qbert death noise*

Are you planning a video on the SC-02 board? If so, you can use clips from this video. (I have that option set in the UA-cam settings) Just be sure to give credit and a back-link.

@@ScottSavageTechnoScavenger I'd love to do that. Just got my Arduino and your board back out. I want to incorporate some of these sounds into my modular setup. I'm currently digging in and figuring out what code I need, etc. The Speechchips site appears to be down, no? Thanks.

Wonderful video. I came from Tom Scott's email via a friend. Really wonderful video production and an interesting topic. Wasn't a fan of the AI art. I really enjoyed all the synonyms for swearing- "kitten farts" was my favourite haha

I'm not remotely a tech guy but this is facinating. I wonder if it's possible to simulate this chip in emulation. It would be so much better than the 90s MAME sound samples they've used since 1997

"Leave me a comment if you can tell what it is."
Make two tables, one for the "vowelish" and one for the "consonantish" phonemes, a random number from 1..3 (possibly 1..5 if you are into Slavic languages) about how many random consonants to render, then a single random vowel.
I did (can) not test it but have the strong feeling that it will sound less drunk that way. :D
The other part is accent, but I figure that is what pitch (and also volume) is for.

    Excellent video and beautiful work.
I'm Brazilian, and here in Brazil in the 80s there was a pinball factory called Taito, which used the SC-01 chip and all the machines it manufactured and today most are stopped due to the lack of this chip.
I would like to be able to help even in order to finance the development of this Chip that you mentioned that you were developing, and to be able to purchase and resell it in my Pinball parts store in Brazil.
I remain at your disposal if you are interested in my proposal.
    Thanks and Success,
    Reinaldo Dalla.
