I had to purchase intravenous administration equipment to make that bucket drip for an entire week by slowing it enough.
That bucket won't even last for 15 minutes because the hole is to big. But as long as the water is penetrating trough the soil deep enough and not running too wide then its fine, because that is the whole point. For a tree you don't want the water to drip too slow because that will produce surface root which is not good because top soil dry very fast. You want to encourage deep root growth until the tree is strong enough without additional watering.

Is slower better? I have 8 holes in mine and there is no run off. Empties in 5 minutes.
