    My mouth was watering from the beginning to the end. I don't think I have a patience to wait to make Kakigoori. I'll just eat watermelon while I prepare, and finish eating watermelon before it gets frozen! LOL

    Guys!!! Just some advice since you make shaved ice so much, use those rice cooker paddle/spoon thing to pat the ice down. Has a much larger surface area than a spoon and cleaner than just using your hands!

    Blended it looked like gespatcho, frozen and shaved it looked like ground hamburger from far. Very cool machine. I can see this being very good if anyone has kids too, they would love to make their own favours. I loved doing things like that with my mom when I was a kid.

    Such good timing! I just learned abt kakigori yesterday! I don't like watermelon(I know my husband thinks I'm nuts lol) but what a great idea for so many different fruits!!
    The snow cones by us(NY/USA) are much different full of thick hard ice n artificial sweeteners but this looks so much better! Esp w the heat if I had an ice shaver I'd be making kakigori everyday too lol
    great video guys thank you!!

    You know, if you put a bit of alchohol in your blended ice (a teaspoon of vodka to a cup of ice) you can make the shaved ice really really fine because it freezes slower and forms less ice crystals. Hence, can be used with the finest setting. Tip to tabieats.

    Ah! The memories..
    My Memaw and Popaw used to sell shaved ice and snow cones. The machines were all hand cranked. And we would be so tired at the end of the day. My favorite was a honeydew lemonade, although mostly we got leftover strawberry ices with camomile or prickly pear tea.

      Bunnies are so much fun! Would you like to know some other things they like? The love parsley and dandelion leaves! They do like carrots, but they love carrot tops (the green leafy parts) even more than the orange parts of the carrot usually. Some bunnies even like a little bite of banana now and then, but usually they shouldn't have too much of it.

    • @UsagiUr
      @UsagiUr 7 років тому

      Yes :) Fruits and vegetables are really cheap here. 1 kg apple 100 yen, 1 kg melon 120 yen, 1 kg peach 110 yen etc. You can buy easily 10-15 kg of fruits for 1-2000 yen. Unfortunatelly Japanese products are expensive. Forexample: 1 nigiri from true Japanese chef 800 yen. 3 small boxes of natto 1200 yen. Moyashi 15 dkg 300 yen etc. :) My wife is Japanese so sometimes we suffer because of the lack of Japanese ingredients and fresh fish.

    What happens if you strain the watermelon (p)anana liquid before freezing it does that change the texture?

      +Dan Whyte I think the texture should r similar but perhaps a bit more icy. We're not sure though.

      +Dan White Yes, I agree. I think to counteract the icy texture, if it occurs, try experimenting with adding sweeteners if you are open to it. A little sugar or corn syrup might help. Also adding evaporated milk into the mix might help, for similar reasons, although it might change the flavor a bit.

    Is there a different type of fruit you can use besides Banana? or maybe how much sugar should you use instead of banana?

      You could definitely add sugar instead. However make sure to dissolved the sugar in hot water before adding it to the watermelon for even sweetness throughout. Enjoy!

    I rarely eat watermelon. I like it, but it doesn't like me. I eat cucumber more often. Did you know that overripe watermelons become bombs?

    I grew up calling it kakikori. I'm wondering if that's just a regional difference of the Japanese I was brought up with.
