I dearly appreciate your respect for foreign cultures and lifestyles. Way to go! Best regards from Germany. I studied and lived in Australia for roughly a year back in 2007/2008. On Fraser I drove a HZJ78 and got infected with the Land Cruiser virus. Last year I made my dreams come true as I bought a troopy. It is a GRJ78 with the 4.0 V6 and no-nonsense modifications for overlanding. I love my troopy and will never sell it.

The forty series ute, the thermo fan may need to be re built , Toyota actually sell tubes of the grease that goes inside clutch, when hot it solidifies stopping rotation , when cool it lets the clutch spin , if grease worn out you get unwanted spin and not enough cooling, if fan spins by hand when engine is hot and been driving for Half hour or more the clutch needs a rebuild, , there should be 4 large phillip head screws at rear of fan clutch , if so remove the 4 screws , clean out as much of old grease as possible , put two new tubes of grease into hub and then refit back together and test , you should get no more spin when hot, I did this to my 80 series and it made engine work a lot cooler. also replace the thermostat as they get stuck closed or half closed which starts overheating - for all the non mechanics out there . LOL.
In newer vehicles the manufacturers got smart and made units sealed and need to replace whole unit.
Good to see you are now taking Dave on your trips but even better see him drive the 6x6

I'd love to have one of your rigs here in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada!.. I'm in Northern British Columbia, close to Alaska.. Where I livwe is called "the last frontier".. You have to own a 4x4 where we live, just to get to and from work, or just to head to the store and get milk LOL.. Our paved roads are only important roads heading to and from the highway and in the core of our town, for skiing tourists... I own a Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road, with some heavy duty shocks (Our North American market 4Runner shares a chassis with your Land Cruiser Prado)... My husband and I love remote touring and do own one of your camper trailers, but my husband has always wanted a 6x6 and he loves yours lol.

You said the recovery tow hitch is 5t. the ropes 14t. so the 7t link strap is not the weakest link if these figures are correct.

Your problem with the FJ is distributer where wire comes through the side, gets a crack in plastic fills with engine grime &earths out ,this is common with petrol cruisers . Best of luck

done LCMP 20 years ago in Summer, never been back in Summer again.
Winter is wicked and you know its cold when the dog bowl Freezes. LCMP winter days are glorious and the night are even better with a big fire and Rum. And if Alben is wearing stubbies and thongs in winters, its cold are buggery.
