One of the greatest songs ever written masterfully sung by one of the greatest singers to ever grace this Earth... Portuguese is a language made for music.
Hits the first note on key.... still mesmerizing the crowd 30 years later. A class act. Commanding attention and exuding sensuality without trying. A refreshing contrast to what we see today. Bravo astrud !
Evangelina Astrud Weinert, known worldwide as Astrud Gilberto, is the woman who was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to be part of the history of Bossa Nova ...! .... Thanks Jose.

She's so radiant... what a smile. I love the look in her eyes as she sings... and she makes it appear so effortless. One of my top favorite female singers of all time, and the first I remember ever taking note of in my early childhood.
I've always been uplifted by her song selections and style from back in the 60's (I'll never forget her show in NYC at The Top of The Sixes) til now. PB
I love hearing her sing in this language much better than in English. She just sounds soooooo good! I have to listen to her sing these songs at least 2 time each. What a treat to listen to those sweeeeeeet vocal chords!!!!!
I got her autograph at Elarios Jazz Restraunt in La Jolla San Diego. This was 1991. I asked her where I can find her lps because CDs where around then. She said try the thrift shops. Now that a lot of the music has been remastered to CD and music is on the net the hunt it over and her beautiful voice can be heard all over.
Que eu não sou ninguém de ir Em conversa de esquecer A tristeza de um amor Que passou Não! Eu só vou se for prá ver Uma estrela aparecer Na manhã de um novo amor...
@Geepereet It's difficult to make sense in English but: First part: The man who says "I give" doesn't give. Cause who gives doesn't say. The man who says "I go" doesn't go. Cause when he has gone he doesn't wanted. The man who says "I am" isn't. Cause who indeed is, is "I'm not". The man who says "I stay" doesn't stay Cause nobody stays when wants. Poor of the man who falls into Ossanha's chant, traitor. Poor of the man who looks for a love spell. Go, go, go, go, I don't go (4x)
I prefer to this type of breathy whispery singing to the ear-deafening howls, wailinga, and angry screams that make up America's pop and soul music scene.
recently does not really hit the spot, it rather was in the early 90s, what makes it about 20 years.past. but concerning her looks and skills you are damn right.
Anybody knows the date of this show. I am happy to hear Astrud in what seems to be recently. She still looks great, and sings as good as in the sixties.
Astrud Gilberto is responsible for introducing the world to Brasil's Bossa Nova movement. If it weren't for her vocal on The Girl From Ipanema..just think..we may haved missed a superlative genre of music.
She's more confident in her singing here than back in the 60's...I think a tenor or alto saxophone would have been nicer than the trombone, but that's only my preference!
@Geepereet Second part: ... Cause I'm not a man to take in speachs about forgetting the sorrow of a past love. No, I only go to see a star showin up in a dawn of a new love. Dear friend, sarava! (hail!). Xangô demanded me to tell you: if it's an Ossanha's chant, don't go! Cause you'll regret a lot. Ask your Orixá (spiritual guide), love is only good if it hurts (2x) Go, go, go, go, love Go, go, go, go, suffer Go, go, go, go, cry Go, go, go, go, say ... Cause I'm not a man to take in ...
It's not just her singing, but her style, using her voice as a unique instrument. Basia definitely had to influenced by her. Maybe ABBA too. Just masterful voice control.
Dear Davi Martins, Astrud is one of the most perfect brazilian singers, and this song has a beautiful lyrics. Caro Favi Martins, Astrud é uma das mais brilhantes cantoras brasileiras, e a letra desta canção é formosa.

This was from 1988, 24 years after The Girl From Ipanema, recorded when Astrud was 23 - here Astrud was 48 in this performance. Rest in peace Astrud.
RIP Astrid Gilberto. My moms favorit singer since my childhood and therefore a part of my life. Never to forget.

Astrud sempre nos Corações dos Brasileiros! Esteja em Paz Amém! Aplausos daqui do Brasil!
Out of all the versions I've heard of Canto de Ossanha, this version is definately the best!
I was fortunate to see her perform twice at the Catalina Bar in Hollywood, 1989 and again in 1991.
I don't know you and now I don't like you lol.. Just kidding brother, that must have been awesome to see her perform and sing live...

Very classy lady!
@alontas she retired in 2002 after the album "Jungle"
I prefer to this type of breathy whispery singing to the ear-deafening howls, wailinga, and angry screams that make up America's pop and soul music scene.
@Geepereet Astrud is awesome! We should heard it everyday, at least.

@gonzagaadel2 Concordo plenamente,é muita formosura em seu canto.
Sooooo dreamy! Let those who dislike craw off!!!!!!!!
@Geepereet: Following is the English translation: "Astrud is the best! The minimum is to hear it every day."
I'd like to see/hear Astrud and Denise Reis sing together.
☀💎
красиво.
Anybody knows the date of this show. I am happy to hear Astrud in what seems to be recently. She still looks great, and sings as good as in the sixties.
@Geepereet she meant "Astrud is the best! At least I listen to it everyday." or something like that

@alontas judging by the clothes / hair cuts I'd say second half of the 80's, astrud is 70 now
Wow! When was this recorded? She still looks good and can still sing!
classy lady
She get really Joan Jett looking in her old age--love her even more
oh man, Astrud's a cougar!
21 JUIN 2019 musik THEM COURT
YES this is song is in a certain way more excited than the girl
1991-92
Like fine wine, some women only improve with age.
@Geepereet I really like to jump around...

Fabio Valente composer Brazilian Invite you for know Bossa Nova, Thanks.
Tout ce qui vient du Brésil est vivant .
What does that mean in english por favor.
What year was this done??
1988
It's not just her singing, but her style, using her voice as a unique instrument. Basia definitely had to influenced by her. Maybe ABBA too. Just masterful voice control.
I think she is the real girl from Ipanema.... ahhhhhh.
Damn, she's still hot as ever! I'm amazed! What a woman!
@Geepereet It's a joke. Maximum (awesome) minimum (the less you could do). Astrud is awesome! The less I could do is to listen to her everyday.
"If you please" or "if you don't mind"

This was recorded 28 years ago..She must look a bit rough nowadays;)
Not half as rough as your mind, I must say.
Colin UK.
Her voice has gotten a little lower...still nice. She aged pretty...
Love Astrud!
But this is definitely NOT her song!
i really don't get what the fuss is about this woman. :-/
I'm sorry but Elis Regina's version is way better.
Music for the upper classes not favela's;)
really?
tusker78 STOP talking bullshit
Music is for everybody! ;)
what a shame to brazilian music!!!!! learn to pronounce and feel the afro sambas... really shamefull
??? She is Brazilian.
Dear Davi Martins, Astrud is one of the most perfect brazilian singers, and this song has a beautiful lyrics. Caro Favi Martins, Astrud é uma das mais brilhantes cantoras brasileiras, e a letra desta canção é formosa.
Davi Martins Bossa Nova isn't afrobrazillian music... but for white singers and musicians from upscale neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro.
Deveria ter cantando "Desafinado" porque e desafinado e o que a voz dela e.
