Venom Becomes A Cosmic Entity (Comics Explained)

- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- Eddie Brock has fallen into a deep dark abyss, and at the bottom of it's slimy depths, meets the enigmatic being known as the Eventuality. Venom now must learn of the true origin of Venom, what it means to be the King in Black, and how he has the power to rival even... The Beyonders!
▸ Venom is the title of several American comic book series published by Marvel Comics focusing on the various heroic and villainous incarnations of the character Venom, which have usually consisted of a human host and amorphous alien being called a symbiote. The first incarnation of the character was the one created by the third and current human host to the symbiote (the first two being Spider-Man and Tel-Kar), Eddie Brock, and-since 2011-its fifth host, Flash Thompson. Beginning with Venom: Lethal Protector, eighteen limited series following Brock's adventures were published monthly between February 1993 and January 1998. A monthly Venom series began publication in 2003, following a new character, Patricia Robertson, and a clone of the original symbiote. The series concluded in 2004 after 18 issues. In 2011 another monthly series, following the adventures of Flash Thompson, was launched. The series resumed with vol. 3, vol. 4, and vol. 5 from 2016 to present.

Ah that's very meta and very good.
It's depressing that Eddie Brock is having such amazing runs and Spider-Man is having some bad ones

My boi Peter...damn
This is straight facts but unfortunately, everything evens out if one thinks about it
I mean venom hasnt had really good storys up until now.
@@DigitalDog41 i don't agree, not completely. He never had a central role in a big story, but it seems like since king in black he became one of the new faces for Marvel, and it looks like it will be like this for a while.
I'm not complaining, I love venom, but I'm sad Spider-Man has been struggling, lately.
I think the idea of Kings In Black being opposite of the Beyonders is a cool concept. And its explained in a way that makes enough sense. The beyonders operate outside the multiverse changing it from the out while Kings In Black operate in the multiverse from within, evolving along with it. Cool

@@shouryadronapratapsingtawa4536 Hmmm why would they nerf the King in Black when fighting the Beyonders
I love that they approached this not as a linear power scale. Yes, Eddie is overall equal to a Beyonder, but that includes all his actions across all his timelines. While he is certainly one of the heavy hitters in his own right, he doesn't have the instant energy output as a Beyonder does.
He still is a reality manipulator on a potentially multiversal scale. But that isn't something he does in one clean motion, implementing the change instantly. Instead, he nudges reality into place over eons, one minor action at a time. That's basically what we're seeing here: His Eventuality making sure to shape the exact timeline he needs by setting his younger self on the correct track. It's a much more roundabout way than simply overriding current reality, but a much more precise one, shaping the result "organically", one iteration at a time, always observing and adjusting the effects. The "bottom up" counterpart to the Beyonders' "top down" approach.
It's nice to see that concept carried through to all aspects of the duality. The Symbiotes are fundamentally different to the Beyonders in almost every regard - it's not just a generic duality of "basically the same powers, but in a different color".
Like charming/ quarks and gluons😮... Strange 🤔😏
@@Knull_thegodhost Wha...?
@@SKy_the_ThunderI think it’s a quark pun based on some of your choices of words: up, down, top, and bottom. The there’s “strange” and “charm,” which can be represented by the heroes we saw in this video, Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch.

I'm surprised that you never mentioned that Eddie's first ever appearance in the comics was "A Hand". His left hand specifically, as he pushed Peter Parker onto the train tracks. Then the first full body shot at the end of the chapter was a black figure.
Now what is he talking to? A Floating Left Hand that represents his final form in a way. His first and Last "appearances" are hands in black.
So... basically the litch from adventure time?
I also just noticed something about the hand. When it appears to Eddie its fingers are burning like candles, and when a question is asked the flame dies out.

I really like the revelation that Peter was to be the King in Black but cicumstances got in the way.
It's my headcanon he was supposed to be the king and black but Marvel writers kept fucking him over so they were like "screw it, Eddie Brock"
@@mixedbaggamer all he had to do was keep the suit after he go it the first time
This story still leaves room for Peter to become the King in Black too. "You have this power. You will lose this power. You will have it again. You will always end up here."

That just took "With great power comes great responsibility" to a whoooole nother level 🤯
Oh man... Jonathan Hickman needs to get some kind of "lifetime reward" for what he has done and what he is doing for Marvel comics... That man in first and foremost storyteller. And he tells such good stories... I came back to comics in 2015 for Secret Wars and then went back for his whole run on F4 and man... Now Xmen and spinning this... Oh man... MAAAAAN...

I do love it when Rob is fangirling about JH’s Avengers and New Avengers lmao
This is Al Ewing
If Peter Parker was originally supposed to be the King in Black, is this the reason why The One Above All had an interest in him when Aunt May was dying?
Don’t all creators have interests in the greatest of their creations?
It'd be sick if this was eventually rolled into the Spider verse tbh
U just got it...!!! Ohhh faaaaak

This is so sick. Can’t wait to see Eddie vs. the Beyonders.
Knull said the same.
But sadly writers would nerfed King in black same as they did with Knull
@@ГригорийГ-ч4н LMAO
Not if fuckin Eddie is as strong as Knull. He won’t be able to compete with the upper ranked Beyonders.
@@lenatunjiHe definitely isn't. Knull's timeline was linear. Eddie's is not. As if he was SUPPOSED to be the real King and Knull basically kept the seat occupied.
I'm gonna be real... Knull was... cool, I guess? I think I liked the idea of expanding the Venom mythos more than the actual character itself. But man... this changes everything and makes it SO MUCH BETTER. God damn this is good writing.
How is it good writing? The beyonders are way stronger by feats. Knull got bodied by captain universe. This does not add up.
@@nobodyknowsforsure knull is also massively nerfed. and as far as we know he didn’t even accept the job
@@nobodyknowsforsure I don’t like how the kings in black are non linear and the beyonders aren’t. Shouldn’t they be beyond time?
@@nobodyknowsforsure Were you not paying attention? How the Beyonders were clean and above, while the Symbiotes were dirty and among the people? How the King in Black's role is to struggle and over-come*? How Peter was originally supposed to be King in Black because he was better suited for it (and possibly offering an explanation as to why he's always getting knocked down by life and having to pick himself back up)? How Venom never realized his capabilities and his hidden potential?
Symbiotes are able to re-arrange the structures of their bodies to take the form of clothing, right? That's matter manipulation on a certain scale. An incredibly powerful tool, but it's just a small step forward into godhood.
Imagine if Venom were able to absorb all of the Symbiotes into himself and convert them into an endless source of dark energy.
*You can't do that if you're all-powerful.
@@CheckersMcGavern Peter wasn't literally ment to be a king in black. That just eddie saying he would have been a better candidate, do his respects for Peter and his own inferiority complex eating away at him.
God damn. Everything related to the symbiotes ever since Donny Cates started his run has just been amazing.
I love the way the hand talks. “You bought the ticket” “Knull burned his draft card” etc…
The Knull-like suit in the promotional material and the idea that we’re dealing with sorta-time travel had me a little worried. But the more powerful and likable Venom becomes, the more validated I feel in supporting Peter not mercing his villains. If he did, Venom wouldn’t be anyone’s favorite hero right now.
i kinda liked knull being this all powerful "pack up your little tricks and head back where you came from when he shows up" kinda bad guy and venom being an anti hero, now knull is out of the picture and has been replaced, venom's a good guy now to, soo yh its kinda a$$ imo but anyway maybe this won't be too bad
He's been mine since 1998 and I'm so glad he's getting this love
That Meridius dude, sure looks exactly like the God in Nightbreed.
@Ridge I disliked how they got rid of Knull but Venom comics for the most part have been consistently good these past few years so I have faith
@@tempest4247 same. very annoyed knull was kinda casted aside pretty fast, he should still be around …. i have faith he is. no one stays dead in comics
This could be an insane explanation for why Peter's life is always so jacked up. He's not in his right place according the way the universe wanted him, he's suppose to be the king in black so now he's living a life that wasn't written for him to have. But that's probably one hell of a head cannon reach
have you seen the across the spiderverse movie? I don't want to spoil anything but want to add something
@@Lokisif34 Yeah I've seen it
@@owasephiroth In that movie every spiderman has "events" they have to go through. Normally a peter parker of course. Those events are tragic in nature, which probably reinforces that he's just doomed. Shit gwen's peter meets a tragic end while not even being spiderman but the lizard. It would be a cool explanation because then the way peter just ends up making most of his villains is the fact that he's basically living the wrong life, which causes a cascading effect.
Also kinda weird to think about. Since the moment brock became the king of black candidate, he is always destined to in every multiverse to meet a symbiote. But if peter was the original, there has too be a universe where he accepts venom or just isn't spiderman so doesn't have enough will to fight against.
So Knull was like Davy Jones- he had a role to play in keeping the universe intact, but instead shrugged off that burden and instead took to wiping it out in spite
he wanted is dark kingdom. was asked to do his job. got pissed
You’d be wrong. He’s not like Davey Jones, nor even spiteful. The Eventuality even states verbatim “Knull said the same” when Eddie states he shouldn’t be the one to be handed the responsibility, the dirty work that the Kings In Black have to do. They need to get their hands dirty (pun not intended), so the world stays clean, or in this case, the universe. Knull rejected that ideal, and then got consumed by a sort of insanity akin to Owl Man. Nothing Matters, so destroying everything is the only action that matters.
Wow... So Eddie is basically not a human anymore, he IS the Symbiote itself now.
Count me in to the future of Venom.
I am in love with these Venom runs! The stories Eddie and Dylan are going through, they are so cool!
The build up to this point was fantastic, and I CALLED IT, THAT THE ASSASSIN FROM THE BEGGINING OF THE STORY WAS EDDIE HIMSELF!
This way of writing how the King in Black works is also fantastic. Eddie is effectively immortal, but because he can become any and all versions of himself, it means there are still things on the line. He has to fight to stay on the path he wants to take to the end. He has to fight to protect Dylan. He's all powerful but still entirely human.
Plus, there's now the looming concern of if Eddie or Dylan become Knull in the end, and does that mean one is destined to kill the other?
If so, now we don't know if the Eddie they meet at any given point is a good or bad Eddie trying to send them down a specific path.
This is an amazing way of writing and exploring what being an omnidimensional being would be like. Following the story of one particular journey and how the other possible outcomes interact and intersect with it.
It's like dark souls invasions. That's incredibly cool
@@comradeoctober2836 that's actually a really good analogy for it
Knull coming on to the scene with symbioyte controlled celestrials will always b a god tier moment!
Man, even in somebody else's story, Peter can't catch a break.
I would be so mad if i lost my chance at being a cosmic being 😭
@@bighomie3898 It's fair to me, Peter couldn't be the king in black because he wasn't able to get dirty, accept death as a part of the wheel that sets the universe in motion (that's why he removed the symbiote and discarded his future as the eventuality)
In a way, it's as if that way of thinking keeps him stuck, unable to move forward or establish real change, he is stuck like the friendly neighbor
So Eddie is a universal constant.

If Spidy was supposed to become a king in back it could explain why they power of the Beyonder went to him naturally, and why he was able to wield it.
I love these "Rob's Digest" versions. I would never actually spend the time to slowly find out certain storylines and character/group runs, but I will sit down, on occasion, and listen to Rob narrate a quick summary of a story, or a part of a story, whether tied to a certain title, or a mutli-title project.
Same, it gets me really invested into the story's as well, like I haven't kept up with comics in years but when I heard Peter was supposed to be the king in black I went crazy
Love this for Eddie, honestly Peter is just as much god tier for the simple fact he is worthy to be God but hasn’t taken it.
Peter is a cuckold. Marvel has no idea what to do with that character. When miles and Eddie gets more character development than Peter does, that gotta say something.
I’m so freakin stoked for this Rob!!! Venom has and always will be my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE! An anti-hero, a hero and a villain when you break down all the VENOM mythos timeline… thank you Marvel Comics and thanks for your coverage Rob.
One thing is absolutely certain besides destiny: even if you say you aren't interested or willing, one way or another, **somebody has to do it**
Brock never asked to be a god...but sometimes, the cosmos demands it.
This is one of the best character arches i have ever EVER heard. This is Phenomenal
I've been waiting for you to cover this!! I love what they're doing with the symbiote lore.
Man I really strongly disliked the original knull and symbiote storyline from Donny Cates, but I feel like Al Ewing has taken it and turned it into something else and I'm really enjoying it.
I do miss venom just being a Spiderman villain tho but maybe that's just me being nostalgic.
wats the damn issue
You can hear how much this guy loves his comics and his job, by the way he narrates this video.
Subscribing just for this video even though I've listened to a couple of his other videos in the past couple of months. 😋
I think the pathways changing may also be brought in case if Eddie loses this power due to another writer or regains it, plus multiverse, but yeah seems like a smart way to really make him the King in Black
What issue is this?
Welcome back, Comics Explained! It's good to hear that you are well!
16:52 this makes sense since kletus does the exact same thing over and over, bringing himself back through a piece of carnage symbiote at propspect of time.
This revelation was major character depth to the king in black and the beyonders. And character growth to knull and the celestials.
What an awesome story! Venom has always been one of my favorite marvel characters so it's awesome to see much he's evolved.
whats the issue
I am always here for Eddie Brock Venom content. Plus I am also here for Knull and Symbiote content too.
Welcome back Rob!!! Everyone needs a break every now and then. And if anyone deserved one it was you.
Finally they made my favorite marvel character one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse. Although it's a little bit mind-blowing that Spider-Man could have became the King in Black as well. And the true history of Knull is also shocking, and not something I was going to expect.
You explained this so much more accurately than others I’ve seen!
So this revelation that Eddie can keep coming back from the dead because he is a King In Black would mean that Knull is out there, somewhere, alive.....right?
No because the comic said Knull's time was linear because he rejected his responsibility, and so he become a foot path for the eventuality(Eddie), so basically only Eddie is the true King in black, because he is both Eddie the person, the idea(of all timelines being destined) he is and has always been the king in black but only takes different forms, and the omega, eventuality
It had been awhile since I last saw a Rob vid. This video had excellent pacing, great energy from Rob, excellent length, and covered the most interesting points of this comic and the future. Best video in awhile.
wow what a breakdown so impressed. I love how you brought some historical context to all of this. Really appreciate your work.
AMAZING! Thank you for bringing us this story Rob.
You know what , Daredevil with a symbiote would be an amazing story. The symbiote could temporarily give daredevil a form of sight just like how it gave flash thompson legs making for a great story.
Seems like Marvels getting tired of people saying DCs hierarchy is above Marvels, so now they're expanding on it like with defenders beyond

So it’s a Tuesday
finally i’ve been waiting for u to cover this story
I like this idea of continuing on from King in Black and making Knull more meaningful, but at the same time.
I kinda want Knull to just be the tyrant and nothing else.
I think it would've been better if the offer to truly fill the role of the King in Black was offered to him prior to his initial defeat, by whoever the previous king was, but he just said "nah" and used his power to try and reclaim the nothingness he came from by fighting the Celestials instead.
This is why I love marvel so much. Their writing is impeccable.
For me Knull will always be the best King in Black
Right it's like why they do him like that?
Don't worry. Eventually they'll bring him back and Eddie will return to the status quo. Let's just enjoy the ride while it lasts.
I concur🤝🏾

Rob’s excitement is everything I needed today.
I hope Eddie has a nice conversation with Peter Parker about all this.
I really hate how they're power scaling Symbiotes these days. Symbiotes should be purely physical, material based, not accounting for cosmic energy or godlike beings.

Congrats on the kid bro
@@DonShotta24 thanks brother. Seven years between my two. I forgot how much sleep you lose lol
Love the new editing style
Out of all the time travel stories in marvel this is one of the best ones
One thing I love that ties all this together is that it makes perfect sense for Knull (and all the other Onyx Kings) to be the opposite of the Beyonders; if they’re “from beyond” then the only real opposite to them would be to be “from before”; which Knull predates the current universe so 🤷♂️
With that said; how/when exactly did Eddie become the first “Eventuality”? Maybe it’s explained in the comic but that seems to be left out how he actually came to be and like, what exactly came before him? The Eventuality is the supervisor of all the Onyx Kings, so what was supervising before? And if nothing was; how and why is Eddie so “special” to become more powerful than any other King in Black? (That we know of)
I think this is a proper bootstrap paradox - a temporal loop that has no beginning or end, because the end is the beginning. The Eventuality who is supervising Eddie Brock and ensuring that he becomes the Eventuality is not a previous version of Eddie Brock at the end of a previous version of the timeline, but the future version of Eddie Brock at the end of this timeline. The Eventuality does not cause the origin of the next version of himself, but the current version of himself, which is the only version of himself.
If you really want a "before," then I guess you could assume that the Celestials are the ones who set the whole thing up, since they were the ones trying to recruit Knull to be King in Black. It has been revealed in other comics that the Celestials created the Beyonders and their Engine (or that they created The Lost One, whose powers were stolen by the Beyonders and who may have been the original Ivory King in the same way that Knull was the original King in Black), so it's reasonable to assume that they created the other Engine as well.

Venom has had a great run the past few years.
It is insane how OP they're making him.
this along with a lot of other stuff we've seen on peter is really painting a picture of "this man was destined by fate for existential importance but life happened and he managed to just barely dodge all of that to live a normal life"
I believe this is building up to the Beyonder Wars that was mentioned in Old Man Star Lord.

This was unbelievable and almost gave me a migraine trying to understand it all....sum characters are just always full of surprises and Eddie Brock is one of them and I have the whole set of lethal protector and it's a great read.

Nope, nope, it was _meant to be_ Wade Wilson. A mind SO broken that it could see every path and every wall (including the 4th one). But the symbiote rejected _him,_ then Parker rejected _it,_ and _then_ Eddie got stuck with it. _That's_ the canon in my head now.
