You wanna know how these guys were discovered? In a backyard party in Torrance CA. Actually my drummer and I saw them play at Alpine Village, and we liked them so much, we told Ginn and dukowski, to come see them play. They signed them immediately. We were on the SST label, and the Annihilator Recording ourselves.
I loved the SST label and it was cool this anachronistic metal band kept taking my mind off the husker du and minutemen stuff on the compilations. Today I still love all of it
Dang, just went to his service today at Riverside National Cemetery, so sad, Armando was true rock n roll, everytime I hear Black Sabbath's "Fairy's Wear Boots/ Jack The Stripper" I'll think of our jam session so long ago now. Rest in peace Armando.
@disturbedspike You tell 'em!! I'm Armando's niece and I went to his viewing at the mortuary today and I miss him a lot!! He was a great uncle and I miss him dearly. He was the best uncle you can have, always with a big smile on his face.
Damn, what I would pay to be there when that shit went down. That wall of heavy distorted Marshall sound and the riffs man, the riffs. Chandler with SG a beast of another dimension
Damn, that is one of the noisiest pedalboards I've ever heard from a guitarist. All he did was switch it on, and he drowned out the rest of the band. That wah pedal must be voiced really hot too, because that just pushed things over the edge.
Yea, and the depth of the sound rumbling out of the cabinets.. holy earth shattering destruction. All he did was activate the effects and 'holy•rollin•fuckin•crunch'! That shit is devastating.
It's not just the pedal board effects alone, I don't think. The Marshal heads add a lot imo. I used to be die hard about Peavey tube and I still love them but I always plug into a Marshal head as well. Nothing fancy or big either.. the simple effects on the head are excellent and add quite a bit to your overall sound.
I first saw them 89-90 or so in Europe, Switzerland to be exact, opening for the Rollins Band. Man it changed our lives. Fond memories. What happened to them????? Great band.
Correct. Sabbath in turn got the title from a disease called chorea, or Saint Vitus' Dance. The disease causes irregular muscle twitches, which can resemble a macabre "dance." Saint Vitus was an early martyr(300AD) who became associated with dancing when a bunch of Germans started boogie'in like maniacs at his festivals, which resembled the dancing of people with chorea. Hence the name, and Saint Vitus' status as Patron Saint of Dancers(among other things).
Thanks for posting this man. My stoner college friend always blasts St. Vitus songs in his cassette player back in '88. I was 11 years old then. Brings back a lot of dead brain cell memories! Hahaha!!! I would trade my personal stash just to see a concert of these guys.
Who is this metal band on my SST compilation? I was getting out of metal around this time mid 80s and Saint Vitus kept coming up .still today Saint Vitus with either Scott makes my day!
Sorry sir or thailow117, St. Vitus is in my ipod because I'm in the U.S. Army stationed in Kuwait. I'll be leaving Kuwait soon and going back home to TX. Take care and Heavy Metal Forever.
Hell ya kiddies best listen to that SG growl! That's what a big block V8 on cougar piss sounds like and I can smell them vapors. riff city over and out baby
Heck yeah! Take all the treble out, crank the midrange and bass, and then drown your amp in a giant vat of peanut butter! Thick, sludgy, noisy and custom-built to rip your head off!
@LaphroaigPhan Scott Reeder was in another band at the time (at the river?) during this show and they played. It was actually Scott's Bday during this show.
Too bad about the overdriven audio--this band really had a great sound. I have the "Program Annihilator" cassette from SST. I used to shred that thing on my crappy car radio in Saint Paul. This band was huge with me.
Heavier than a Sherman tank driven by Marlon Brando with bricks in his jacket pocket and his pet hippo sitting next to him for the ride ! Legendary stuff.
Does anybody recognise the dude in the background?it is scott reeder who was playing in the headlinig act "across the river"who would eventually join wino in the obsessed then, later join kyuss!apparently brant bjork had told me personally that he had actually attended this gig!!doom on brothers!!
I feel the overdriven audio gives a gritty edge to the music, much like the 'In Rock' Deep Purple album, dunno if the original studio track was overdriven too
@FilthyMcNasty757 Hell yeah man! Punk and metal go hand in hand. Some of my metal friends have their heads too far up their asses to realize what actually influenced the bands they are into and won't give those bands (like Black Flag) a chance when I try to show them, it pisses me off!
GREAT VIDEO WHERE DID YOU FIND LOOKS TO BE A GREAT CONDITION WHERE EVER YOU GOT FROM IT WAS LIKE BEING THERE IN PERSON THE SOUND THIS VIDEO HAS \,,/ SAINT VITUS \,,/ LEGENDS OF DOOM METAL.
not sure, but i've played around with my amp and it seems they probably turned up the bass dial all the way up, the mid and high at mid, to give it taht crunchy sound lol

Nothing says "doom" like the Palm Springs Community Center!
Im always amazed how many people knew my uncle Armando, I didnt know much of him other than him being in a band.
His band has acheive cult status actually !
Dave Chandler still plays that Gibson SG at shows. I saw them last year in Seattle. Dead Kennedys sticker's still on the red SG.
Possibly the coolest guitar body shape there has ever been.
Dang, just went to his service today at Riverside National Cemetery, so sad, Armando was true rock n roll, everytime I hear Black Sabbath's "Fairy's Wear Boots/ Jack The Stripper" I'll think of our jam session so long ago now. Rest in peace Armando.
This gig was with Across the river (Scott Reeder's Birthday gig)
@disturbedspike You tell 'em!! I'm Armando's niece and I went to his viewing at the mortuary today and I miss him a lot!! He was a great uncle and I miss him dearly. He was the best uncle you can have, always with a big smile on his face.
Possibly the best video of all time.
Bassist is flying the flag!! Hank would be proud!
Love the black flag and dead!
I've got misfits skull inside a stealy sticker
The Bass player has the look
Lewis Floyd Henry he looks like a workaholic
3:11 you know you're doing something special when the camera is headbanging 🔥
Saint Vitus !
Dave Chandler has gone really wild on this one!
"alright there's goats being sold over here".
Brutal.
the no hope goat farm
Damn, what I would pay to be there when that shit went down. That wall of heavy distorted Marshall sound and the riffs man, the riffs. Chandler with SG a beast of another dimension
It's fun to see Dave Chandler so full of energy... :P
There's Cokes being sold over there.
I bet Wino grabbed some of that "Coke" after the gig
I was there, he actually said "coats" cause there was a guy selling coats.
Did it happen to be particularly cold that day?
Oct 16, 2009 is the day I'll see them live for the first time.....
Such an underrated band. I have their cds in my ipod.

Epic camera work!

Too bad the sound quality sux, but it's still cool for me to finally see them play with Wino.
I saw these guys at the Des Moines Botanical Center in '86 (I think) with the Mentors for $3. Sweet.
Thanks for posting this man. My stoner college friend always blasts St. Vitus songs in his cassette player back in '88. I was 11 years old then. Brings back a lot of dead brain cell memories! Hahaha!!! I would trade my personal stash just to see a concert of these guys.

This is great. Nice one fellas. Regards from Spain. Reminds me of Vulcan/No Name from the late 70's.
Sorry sir or thailow117, St. Vitus is in my ipod because I'm in the U.S. Army stationed in Kuwait. I'll be leaving Kuwait soon and going back home to TX. Take care and Heavy Metal Forever.

If your building something out of METAL there is an abundance of it here
