Great and honest review. ♥️ Congratulations on hitting 1k subs. The first thousand is the hardest and it is a wonderful achievement. Have a great weekend.
Hey, Harry. I'm up in Bellevue! I love the set, but the production and finishing quality of what I got was lacking. Filthy records, crumpled plastic sleeves. Wish the album sleeves were better... but, yeah, the records are all good, flat, sound well. Glad I bought it, happy to have it. But you don't really get that extra mile effort. Fingers crossed they reprint The Beatles Mono set, as I missed that.
still waiting, mine was shipped from Abkco on 1/20 still in new mexico! I have most of these LPs from when they came out but in stereo. The first Stones LP that I bought right when it came out was Your Satanic Majesty Requests, after that I bought all the Stones as they came out until Bridges To Babylon. Will the Fragments - Dylan 10 LP get here first? It shipped a week after the Stones
Nice review, Harry. Thanks. My Stones box just arrived and I’m diving in. I also don’t have many of their earlier albums so made sense for me to get this release. I also felt the cover art doesn’t seem crisp and a big miss to not reproduce Their Satanic Majesties Request’s lenticular cover.
Nice job Harry. I was on the fence if I would order this or not, but my only repeat is Beggar's Banquet in Stereo. I am not normally a Mono fan but I took a chance and made the order. It's onn the way and I will get it in a week or so. Cheers
Harry congrats on your first 1,000 brother! The next 1,000 will come easier! Your reaching what Rachel calls ‘escape velocity’ brother! Now to actually sit back enjoy this video! But I just had to say congrats! Seriously, you more than deserve 5X the thousand!Awesome my man!❤❤❤ Great points btw regarding using multiple studios and engineers! Spot on!
Harry Good review, growing up I did like the Stones more than the Beatles and purchased both groups . I do agree that the cover art work should have been better, 2022 technology was not used. Why not? For the sound, It sounds good on my system Thanks for your review & congrats on 1k
Hi Harry, i just purchased my set too. Got it from Acoustic Sounds, no damage hurray. it was a bit of leap, was not a big fan of the Stones, more so the Beatles. This video is very thoughtful. I am expanding my listening sphere Rich👍
@@harrysmusicroom And Decca is a German label with studios also in Nashville. It's quite possible they used an EMI studio to make those recordings. But later in their career, on the same contract, they recorded in at least one other studio. I don't know that they were contractually required to record at EMI.
Hi Harry, great review and exactly my thoughts of the Stones too. I really love the Stones and they are my second favorite band after the Beatles. But in the sixties I also think the Beatles albums were more cohesive and stronger, better produced and even better recorded. Also for me, the Stones first real great album was Beggar's Banquette. Before, they where a singles band for sure, even their albums were not bad, ... bot not competitive to the Beatles albums.... But the run, they started with Beggar's Banquett, including let it bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Str. and Goats Head Soup... unbelievable. Five absolute fantastic albums in a row.. that's where they really become great.... Congratulations to your more than 1000 subscribers and from now you have even one more! Best wishes from Germany
Good review Harry, I wasn't going to get this boxset then 2 days before it was released I Preordered on Amazon. I already had all these albums in my collection that's why I hesitated ton get it. Your were spot on with your Analogy of the Stones, I also grew up with the Stones and Beatles being born in 1952. I purchased every Beatles album that was released my first Rolling Stones album was Got Live If You Want It.
Nice work of this, Harry. I'm a bit late to this so our Stones brethren have already responded below. "After all is said and done who who you rather be the Beatles or the Rolling Stones?" 😊👍
That was pretty close to a real review and whether someone agrees or not you delt with the strengths for the music more than the dressing of the BOX of vinyl artifacts - Good for You! .... I had because of the enormous commerce living on the U.S. and Mexican border saw a lot of CLOSEOUTS (Cutout) Records for 10 for $1 or as many as 30 for $1 albums sometimes only a few months old. By 1968 I remember buying every Stones Mono album at 10 for a $1 at our Downtown Kress. So, albeit I'm not a big fan of PRE-1967 Music I did get to listen to a lot of Albums for 'pennies.' --- BTW, the prices and records also include 1950s Blues, RnB, Jazz and other genres that were easily affordable to buy as well. --- .... I'd like the Vinyl, but NO WAY am I going to allow something so inexpensive in my 'youth' become 'Cannibalized' by a quick profit from fans who are hunting for; I'm not sure what they are hunting for ---OR WHY? ---- ....
Interesting review. Personally I think it's become a bit of a cliche to say Satanic Maj is terrible and they were just copying the Beatles....everyone was doing a psyche album in 1967! And it's far from terrible, I've always loved that album and I gave my Mexican OG pressing (incidentally, its titled "A 2000 Años Luz De La Tierra") a spin the other night, sounds fantastic albeit with more that a few skips! Sure, Rainbow and 2000 light years are the best songs, agreed, but everything else is great too...and I absolutely include the track that ends side 1 in that as well, Sing This Altogether (See What Happens)!! TSMR is a great record and imho is the begining of the great run that lasted until 72 (or 73, depending your take on Goats Head Soup. Cheers!
Harry, you're absolutely in the fact that the Stones, from 1963 to 1965, were a singles band, not an albums band. In fact, until Aftermath came out, they were mostly a blues/soul cover band. The early albums were a hodge-podge of songs with no real theme. They would release an EP and LP. Until 1966, they were not prolific song writers. Some of the songs on an US album was shorter, in length, than the UK version (different takes). Of course, didn't know about it at the time until I read about it on line. US Aftermath has only 11 songs, UK version has 14. Did we in the US get ripped off, yes we did. Flowers has 2 or 3 songs left off of the US Aftermath. 2 songs not found in any UK album, 2 singles, which were duplicated on US Between the buttons (hence its' non release - still a copout from ABKCO). They hit their stride in the late 60s and released their best albums between 1968-1972. And yeah, Mick's voice was slight higher in those early songs. I guess he was going through puberty!
Knocking the Stones huh Harry. Your a Beatles fan, Beatles fans are quite a bit prejudiced so your opinions are tainted when it comes to the Stones. What freaks me is you people think the Stones copied the Beatles on purpose. You think Keith and the boys looked and listened to a Beatles album and decided to copy it. Ridiculous. If anything was similar that was record execs trying to cash in on the Beatles like everybody else was. The Stones have never ever ever sounded like the Beatles thank god. You Beatle fans need to get your head out of the sand and stop bashing the greatest rock and roll band of all time. What is it jealousy, avarice, its certainly illusionary. In the 60s the Beatles were the fan favs of little pre pubescent teen age boys and girls. The vast majority were girls and not a lot boys at that. Us guys were into the harder side of the British invasion. The Stones, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, Zombies, The Animals, Cream. That's who the cool guys were into back then. Beatle Boys got beat up in my neighborhood no bull Harry... You forget I was there too in the 60s and your opinions are skewed according to my recollections of the era. I'm 74 years of age so I was there during the heyday in 64 & 65 and I think revisionist history from you Beatle fans about the rivalry is way off the mark. That being said there's no denying the Beatles took the world by storm but I can tell you from experience the Beatles wasn't the biggest thing to hit the music scene back then. The Twist was bigger that the Beatles but like all dance tunes it only lasted 3 or 4 years. Everybody liked the Twist, not everybody liked the Beatles.... That's my rebuttal. Yep I'm a Stones fan. LOL
I knew I would piss you off, Bobby, 🤣 but I think one thing you said makes sense, that you were about 5 years older than me. So yeah I was 10 years old and the Beatles were the thing for me. Whereas the stones were just you know a top 40 band. Thanks for watching, Bobby
@@harrysmusicroom Being the same age as you I agree with what you stated on this set and their early music . This box is great but a few tweaks as you said and it would be great. Also they did get it together on aftermath , but I never heard their early work until later. Our local AM radio never played them until Honky Tonk women, so by that time all their earlier music was old and not played. I’m sure our area wasn’t the only one that skipped those early hits. Good review , I think mono is the way to go with this stuff as intended. Mine arrives tomorrow. I own the mofi box and it’s uneven at best.
Hey Harry, I disagree with your review, I’m an old Stones fan and I’m also around your age. I grew up with both bands but I always preferred the Stones over the Beatles. I don’t think you really get the Stones. They’re a rhythm and blues band when they started out not a pop band like the Beatles in the early days of Beatlemania. Their totally different and should never be compared. I own all the original mono and stereo albums and I had no need for this box set. I’m sorry to hear about the short comings on this new box but it shouldn’t cloud your opinion on the music it self.
Every Beatles song was great??! Gimme a break...anyways, who gives a crap? The Stones and Beatles sound absolutely nothing alike, no comparison required other than for historical context. I'm now in my 40s, my preference transitioned from the Beatles to the Stones back in my 20s. Abbey Road is epic, the White Album is mostly great (with plenty of fluff)...I'll take the Stones from '68-72' all day long.
