  • A procession and parade of 500 people dressed in traditional court attire forms a line over 300 meters long, parading with imperial palanquins, portable shrines, and floats through central Tokyo, including the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Station area, Nihonbashi, and Ginza. At the Sakashita Gate of the Imperial Palace, a ceremonial stop is held where shrine officials, including the head priest, present sacred talismans and pay respects. This parade is part of the Sanno Festival, one of Japan's three major festivals. The Sanno Festival is a traditional event that has been held since the Edo period and takes place amidst the modern landscape of Tokyo.
