- Monster shelf cloud with DERECHO that traveled from Utah through South Dakota including a smooth pass over the Rocky Mountains and across the northern Plains! Intercepted by Dominator Drone here near Bison, SD near the absolute apex of the bow echo
Is this a real video. If so quite scary
Yes it sure is! Captured this with my drone
@@ReedTimmerWx congratulations. YOU JUST CAPTURED HELL
I was around 9 when I witnessed this it terrified me I have a fear of wind and thunderstorms now and i have PTSD andi wake up because I was in a car during it and there was no shelter
I’m going to be honest I only just now heard of a derecho.
Yeah, stay safe those of you in the path of the ongoing derecho!
They’re scary as shit, man. I’ve been through two tornadoes in my life and one derecho and lemme just say, I’d actually rather do tornadoes than these fuckers. They’re BAD.
Reminds me of a scene from the movie Independents Day!
Strange. I never heard that word before until now...
@@mduke2k exactly...it looks like a mother ship!
that is one of the scariest weather systems I've ever seen. Monster is an understatement.
Weather modification to destroy iowa crops
@@tjbisig9324 What a ridiculous statement. Go put on your tinfoil hat and climb in bed with all of the other crazy nutcase conspiracy theorists.
That looks like it could be a Mother Ship under there. Those clouds are amazing
Imagine being in some pitch-black alley and then hearing the sound at 1:08 right behind you.
Clown

Spooky
The Shadow knows....
Nobody alive gets better weather footage than Reed. Incredible.
And pecos hank
Shaxx
Damn. You beat me to it 🤣
@@zanypierce4020 Agree. Some would say about Pecos Hanks channel "This is amazing!"
no pecos hank gets the best
Gonna add to the Pecos hank thing because he really does provide a true ethereal experience with his footage. His soothing, yet direct commentary is also top notch over any storm caster.
That monster shelf cloud passed over my house last night it was pretty intense
That looks like the opening scene from Independence Day when the spaceships breached earths atmosphere. 😎👌🏾
1:15 Legend has it this is the mating call for dolphins
🤣 lolllllll
😂😂
Thanks Reed, magnificent. Really awe inspiring. Since I was a small child, watching these storms from my grandparents screened in porch which faced west. In a small town in Kansas, Coats which is 10 miles southwest of Pratt. I've had such a fascination with them. Incidentally, Greensburg is just 15 miles to the west of Coats, which sustained an F5 in May of 2005. You have quite the job, chasing Mother Nature. I envy you a lot. Thanks for all the videos.
Me: I'm going outside.
* 5 seconds later *
Me: um...never mind
I love how all these derecho videos are showing up but, the majority of us have only just heard about a derecho because of the one that just hit the midwest recently. Derecho storms never existed for me in my years of living in America
Everyone else just now hearing about derechos? It's like they JUST started being a thing, but no, they've been a thing since the beginning of time? Mandela effect, anyone?
Edit: People are really pissed off that I mentioned the Mandela effect. Legit, some guy just said "To suggest it's a false memory just because I hadn't heard of it is the *height of arrogance."* Another commenter said that I can't claim it's a product of the Mandela effect because I "obviously" don't know what the Mandela effect is. The Mandela effect's official definition is as follows:
"The Mandela effect is an unusual phenomenon where a large group of people remember something differently than how it occured."
This is broad, right? Well, I remember Derechos as having never existed until now. That's an example of me remembering it differently. Now, does this mean I believe that? Of course not as they've been around for a long time. People are seriously offended and it's hilarious watching them try to talk down to me because of it.
Agreed!
Nah, I’ve known about them for years.
Never heard the term until these recent videos, and I've been around a long time. I never heard "bomb cyclone" until fairly recently either. Maybe people get bored with old names for meteorological monsters, so they come up with new ones.
I've known the term for some time now, but yeah, it's only just now that the word "Derecho" is entering the public lexicon, even though we've seen a major one back in 2012 and have had others before and after.
no offense but you dont seem to understand what the mandella effect is, you cant say something is the mandala effect just because you didnt know about it prior lol
I drove through this storm in Utah Wyoming area. Thought I was going to die.
What an ant sees on the carpet as the vacuum cleaner approaches...
That is awesome, good job Reed
Another amazing drone footage!!
That was really awesome, Reed. Thanks to photography, we now have your footage as a record forever! Really well done.
That looks amazing!!! There's just no words for the beauty that comes with our weather.
Unbelievable. They're new to me too. And I've been around a while. Never seen these!
I love storms, I'm in Omaha and I never get tired of seeing theses beautiful shelf clouds! Once you see them or shall I say your first cloud you never forget one!!❣❤❤❤
That is one healthy shelf cloud! 👍❤
I love this guy. I'm in Canada, Ontario and for some reason Reed is one of my icons in life.
To bad he is in another country ( good for him, bad for me haha ).
Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration my friend.
Amazing mega shelf!
Just so impressive! I love seeing this stuff in person but it is not always possible, that's why I am subscribed to Reed. Fantastic job with all you do. Been following Reed since the earlier days. I have never been disappointed. Thank you Reed!
This is absolutely amazing!
Reed, you are the King of Storm Chasers! Now, you've got the amazing audio to top it all off! Way to go, man!
That is one heck of a shelf cloud, awesome!
I love how the cows are just chilling eating grass like nothing is going to happen XD
Did anyone else seen the screaming faces coming out of the side of the cloud on the left hand side at 2:18 ?
I saw them to! That's creepy!
no
@@booates no
Omg i did so weird and creepy 😬😬😱
@@cassidyrogers3431 I think the more o kept looking at it and turning my phone around the more face I kept seeing! 1 100% looks like 😱
Absolutely beautiful!
We had one of these in southern illinois May 2009. I was driving home and got caught in it. My son said he watched it go over our house - - our house had no wind or damage, amazingly and thankfully, but towns all around me did. Now knowing what he saw is astounding!
Absolutely stunning!!!!
Wow, this is beautiful!
That's so awesome!
I always watch Reed's videos with mute on, they are so much more enjoyable.
just came across this video looking for derecho, but his "commentary" adds nothing
It's amazing how far those things extend.
that is stunning !
Holy Mother Of God! THAT IS HUGE!!!!
Beautiful shelf cloud and landscape. Reminds me of home.
Wow Reed! that is amazing!
Shelf cloud to drone: "I'm coming to eat you." Drone to operator: "Get me outa here!!" Operator to drone: "This view is worth a scratched drone. Continue!!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣 like this😶💭
😆😆😆😉👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
That is one helluva shelf cloud. Awesome views.
This. Is. AMAZING.
That looks so cool. Obviously it wouldn't be fun to be stuck in the midst of that system but just viewed as a natural phenomenon, it's beautiful.
Awesome!! Wish I could be there!!
Gorgeous landscape!
I agree with your assessment of that shelf cloud Reed, incredible.
Amazing ! We went thru a derecho about 8 years ago and it was very scary, thank goodness it passed by quickly ! Stay safe :-))
I went through a derecho while playing golf one summer lol. I was about to tee off when all of a sudden, a wall of rain came rushing towards me. That was a sight to see!! We booked it to the clubhouse and watched the storm unfold from a safe location.
What's derecho?
Sooo Awesome..I Love Mother Natures Weather..Great Vid Of This..Stay Safe As Always Out There✌😊👍Sending Love To Everyone💞
Good vid! That shelf cloud looks awesome.
Watched this storm system pass over me in Colorado (no shelf cloud at that time though).
That was really awesome. Great footage and video
Thanks for the great Shelfcloud video. Glad you did not lose your drone.
ThisDerecho hit us hard.Cedar Rapids Iowa lost 50% of its big trees. The City was known for its trees. The NWS now says winds of 140 mph hit in this one that did millions of dollars in damage to CR and south of there, here in Iowa City,Iowa we too had terrible damage. With the climate change this may be the new Normal. Thanks a lot.
Truely PROFESSIONAL video!!! Exceptional.
Wow what an incredible footage 😮
Incredible shelf cloud ! 😮
Been watching a lot of your videos, Reed. You always have extremely impressive footage. I can't believe how close you're willing to get to these beautiful storms. I grew up in State College, PA right up the street from AccuWeather. As a kid I really wanted to become a storm chaser as a career and now that I'm older, I deeply regret not pursuing that goal. I am a video producer though so maybe now I can start chasing. I really want to chase hurricanes too and I think this season there will be some monsters.
Go for it!!!!!
That's very beautiful
Reed keep making great videos.
That storm scared the heck out of me when it passed over because I wasn't paying attention to weather reports that day lol Heard whistling, looked outside, and went, "why is the street light pole swinging in circles..."
Reed is in a Class all by himself... atta boy REED !! you RULE! thank you for your dedication to capturing Stunning Videos.
What a cool shelf!
Can Derechos have tornados? I'm curious.
Nah drechos are straightline winds
That’s so cool
Now that is some beautiful topology
I can’t believe there wasn’t one tornado spawned out of that storm!
Derechos usually move too fast or mainly put up a frontal gust. I mean, there were several satellite funnels, but a Tornado forming along a Derecho is kinda rare. It's just science, I do believe there were some tornadoes dropped from this storm.
WOW that's amazing
Frighteningly beautiful.
Incredible footage
Who needs drugs when you got wicked weather.thanks DOMINATORS.
0:08 // Hmmm, it's kind of rude to look under someone's skirt - even if it is Mother Nature.
I'm from near Bison (living in NC) & we just ran across this episode on Disney +. So cool man!!
Incredible!!!!!
It's beautiful
Reed is at the top of his game.
Amazing!!!
Amazing Reed
Had a wall cloud like that here in SE Montana last year. It wasnt as long as this one tho it was intense. Got to meet Reed a few years back durning the 4th of July. Awesome guy!! Keep chasing those monster storm dude!!
Woooow....thats insane!
I live in the "heart of Ohio." My neighbor made a passing remark about the "storm expected about 11:00 p.m." The next day I chewed him out reminding him that I live where I get almost no TV reception and basically only spotty Internet. Next time warn me! The irony of what is now considered the 2nd worst natural disaster to hit the US totally fizzled when it hit the state line. Thank Heavens! While watching these is exhilarating I have painful memories of the damage a small one short lived that ravaged Central Ohio some 8-10 years ago. My electricity was out for 3.5 days. I lost everything in the freezer. These fellow Americans not lost not only their food, but their crops and homes. We were so wrapped up complaining about not being able to go put to eat, we completely overlooked the crop losses and have forgotten this is one reason food prices have shot up and some things like breadflour and canned corn willi
Very epic shelf cloud
That is awesome
there's a reason that, as beautiful as the landscape seems, very few people live in these areas. these are incredibly severe storms
Unbelievable shots
Wow, I have never seen anything like this but once in 1994 and it was massive over Florida!
That derecho came through NW Minnesota this morn and still packed a punch. Have a few 4 to 6 inch branches down.
Did you get pics of it?
I clicked this video thinking the thumbnail would be clickbait, but nope, I was wrong for once!
Awesome greetz from Germany
Reed, what is the difference between a derecho and a MCC, meso-scale convective complex?
@Dave Wilson:
My understanding is that a MCC is a large cluster of storm cells that is in a more circle/oval formation, and a Derecho is a long line of storm cells..
Wow. Amazing.
For a year now I've come west across I-40 every Saturday and Sunday. And I've yet to come across one of these. But, I'm watching.
1:14 almost looks like an alien face. I don't recall seeing clouds like these when I was younger. 🤷🏾♂️
They only happen within a certain region in the flats or “valleys” of eastern to midwestern America, and other geographically similar regions across the world. They’re pretty rare meteorological events. I’ve never seen one myself, but the internet has shown us what we can’t see as we are not in the right place and the right time.
@@tomatosteve3444 Nope. I don't believe that cause I've seen more than one. In Florida. All within the last 10 years.
Now THAT is a shelf cloud.
What an eerie sight.
wow! impressive!
Freaking awesome!!!!!
I wish there was footage like this of the derecho that hit Cedar Rapids, IA on 8/10/2020. That was a monster! 45mins of 100+ sustained winds (143mph gusts) and heavy rain. ALL of Cedar Rapids was without power, cell phone service was spotty at best. Since there was no power, anywhere, that ment no stores were open, no atms, no gas, nothing! I was without power for 10 days and others were out longer. I'm still working on fixing my house from that storm.
Cedar Rapids has had a few crazy, record breaking weather events in the last 20 years!
Just awesome.
wow so amazing it show a wall cool
Now that is a VERY sexy shelf cloud. Ohh my! So damn Sec-z
At least you were in Dominator. I drove thru the derecho in southwest Wisconsin, with winds clocking at 85 mph, in a Chevy Aveo.
