    Dude... doing towing tests like this AND shooting is A LOT OF WORK - TFL Truck does these and they have an entire crew to support it. That's crazy man, you're killing it!

    The typical Raptor fan isn’t focused on the truck being a tow vehicle, but rather an off road beast! The fact that the Raptor is a slightly more than capable tow truck is a win in the eyes of most Raptor fans. Just my opinion.

      Totally agree, Frank. But we had people asking how it would tow so figured we'd show them what's what.

    As a Raptor owner I didn’t buy my truck for towing. But as a homeowner I needed to move a couple tons a gravel. Thanks for the down and dirty of everything I needed to know

    Great video. I’m currently on the fence about either a 2500 truck or the raptor. I currently have a tundra with airbags and it just seems under powered when towing. If I’m hauling a camper or a boat it gets like 8-9 mpg. It just drinks gas, I was hoping with the more available power that the raptor has might make it worth looking at. I really don’t want a diesel motor and a stiff riding 2500. After all I daily drive a lot more than I tow. I haul a trailer 2 or 3 times a month. And everything is under 10k. So far I’m looking at either a gmc AT4 2500 or raptor. Thank you for real world towing test. I think the raptor would be a better daily driver and still be enough truck to handle my 22’ camper that gets towed 4 times a year for no more that 3 hour trips. With out people like you that take the time to do a review we would be left with the advice of sales people that will tell you what you want to hear to make the sale.

      Hello - it's been a while since you posted this. What did you end up doing? I'm considering a new '22 Raptor or Tundra TRD PRO '22 or Ram 2500 Diesel. Really not wanting a 2500 for the same reasons you express in your comment. I'll be towing my 25 ft. Travel Trailer that is roughly 6,000 pounds.

    The Raptors mirrors aren’t set any wider than the standard F150. The cab is identical. The extra width is in the fenders/tires

    Don't need a separate package to get the trailer brake controller. Just buy it online and pay the dealer to install it. Cost me less than $200USD in all.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 років тому +2

      That's what we did with our vehicle for towing, too. I was more referencing that the package does offer a number of helpful features for towing, including the brake controller.

    You don’t have to add the trailer info every time you use the trailer backup system. It saves it. And for someone who doesn’t back up trailers it’s an amazing system that i will never go without again.

    Great video. I have towed with mine and with multiple different trailers and loads, truck does fine. A little bit of squatting but negligible compared to any other off-roader.

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 років тому

      Yeah, that was a real surprise for us. What sort of loads do you tow with it?

      Family Wheels towed a 28' flat bed with a Yamaha Rhino and about 1,000 pounds of furniture from a property cleaning, load of crap metal in the bed, about 1,300 pounds, and towed about 6,000 pounds of crap metal on another flat bed. Also used it with tow ropes to tear apart a busted trailer. That's where the scrap metal came from. If your fine with the reduced tow capacity and increased bed height, they make fine work trucks.

      Family Wheels with a 28' flat bed hauling a Yamaha Rhino and bunch of junk from a property clearing. Also took about 1,300 pounds of scrap metal in the bed and drove fine as well. 6,000 pounds of scrap once in a 26' flatbed and for fun used it with tow ropes to tear apart a section of an old dry van trailer. That's where the scrap came from. If your fine with the reduced tow capacity and the high sitting bed, they make fine work vehicles

    Toyota tundra has an adjustable headlights since 07 a must feature for trucks especially if you tow alot. can't believe all truck manufacturers didn't catch on yet

    • @FamilyWheels

    I’m confused, your video shows the raptor towing a 2400BH grand design , but at the end of the video , you noted the specs of the larger 2800BH (the trailer I Own myself)
    You mentioned 32ft overall , and 6800lbs . But that does not match the trailer your video showed you towing?

    Great video. Question-I have a 2020, has the 802 pkg (trailer break, etc). I’m pulling a new TT that’s 6,800 lbs dry - same as your video. I also have a WDH system but still get squat. Should I fix that and how. I’m looking on line a upgraded bump stops, but I don’t get how they work as they don’t kick in until the Axel is in contact with the bump stop, but that’s after considerable squat. What do you suggest?

    How would this truck handle towing a 7k boat trailer. I use it every weekend. Would it just accelerate ware

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 років тому

      I had my doubts with how this truck would do close to the max towing capacity but the larger trailer we used for this review felt good behind this truck. Even at highway speeds on a steady grade or taking corners, it felt far more solid with very minimal back end sag. With the right towing equipment, I'd imagine you'd be fine.

  • @Cobb

    Wait 18 city and 13 highway, so then the trailer was worthless to fuel economy light to light? Or are those numbers backwards?

    • @FamilyWheels
      @FamilyWheels  7 років тому +4

      Hi Cobb... the numbers aren't backwards BUT as I mentioned, the city mileage was without a trailer. So 18 city without a load and 13 highway with a 2700 lb trailer. That was over a 600 km road trip with a tail wind for quite some time and a much less efficient crosswind as well.

    A new truck will tow fine, My 2014 has only 15K on it. My question is: How will it tow with 60K on it. Ford 5.0-6.2L have a great track record. Do you have any data on the older Raptors V8's and also the ECO boost 6 leaving you stranded ( Dessert towing 100 degrees + and uphill)? The 1st Raptors were "not" recommended to do any towing. Im concerned about the 6-cyl overheating in summer towing conditions. Has Ford increased oil cooling? I cant afford to replace the motor or trans after buying mine at a price more than some peoples homes.

    • @FamilyWheels

      Anybody with a Raptor with plenty of towing miles car to give their perspective here?

    • @MrJamesLuz
      @MrJamesLuz 7 років тому +1

      Family Wheels : I don't own a Raptor but I do tow a travel trailer with a 2016 F150 Ecoboost. We have completed a 300 mile trip going from 400 ft to 7000 ft in elevation in 90+ degree Fahrenheit weather.
      The turbo motor at elevation pulled hard allowing us to maintain the speed limit (and more if we wanted) the cooling package is great and we had no issues with the A/C cranked. One downside was that fuel economy started to suffer because the turbos were spooled up needing additional fuel but compared to our old tow rig that ate fuel AND started to slow down above 5000 ft I have no regrets going with the Ecoboost V6.

    • @MrEQ2009
      @MrEQ2009 7 років тому

      MrJamesLuz Thank you, please let me know when you get to60K how it performs then. They perform great when new

    • @MrJamesLuz
      @MrJamesLuz 7 років тому

      Earth Quake that's not a bad idea. The truck currently has 6000 miles on it and yes vehicles while new will perform better. However Ford has built in many features designed to improve engine life. Examples include fuel maps to prevent overheating, oil scavenging to prevent oil sludge buildup in the turbos after engine shutoff, direct and port injection to prevent carbon buildup on the intake valves, and in the event of a severe overheat the computer will spool up the turbos and shut off fuel to opposite cylinders turning half the engine into an air pump until cylinder head temps come down. The technology is far advanced from engines developed even 5 years ago.
      Research how the 2.7 ecoboost was built and developed. It has no exhaust manifolds to eliminate weight, gaskets, and maintenance. The turbos bolt directly to the cylinder head allowing the exhaust passages to be liquid cooled.

      I wish there was a V8 option in the 2017, let the market decide. Another wish is that they will do a production run, like Tesla is doing. I would like to see everyone driving a ford/chevy, tired of seeing so many tundras on the road.
