It was a smart move. All shows have a shelf life and some go beyond it which starts to lower the overall quality. Some know when it's time to wrap it up. And I think this one was reaching it.

I ride with Kim. I was bullied in HS and everything Kim experienced was so familiar to me. Years later, the bullies never recalled things that I reminded them they'd said and done because they had moved on and matured with children of their own, so they couldn't fathom that they'd hurt others and left such deep psychological scars. Bullies live in the moment and SJP strikes me as a mean girl. That overly sweet, high-pitched, innocent persona during that first clip was phony and irritating. Chris Noth's face in the second clip said it all. I wish she would just say, "I was younger with a lot of power and I made mistakes." Instead, she's deflecting it like Kim is a liar. I see both sides and I'm pretty sure it got contentious at times, but I believe Kim was forced to stand her ground.

Indeed, SJP was the star of the show from the beginning, therefore she was paid more - later on when the show gained huge popularity the other actors asked for more money and good for them - that isn't SJP's issue however.

You're either friends or you're not. I work with people every day that I wouldn't call my friends. I don't dislike them or wish them any ill will. We get along great and laugh together while we work, but still, they're not exactly my friends. They're not in my life other than at the "office."
Acting is a very emotionally intensive and personal job. Anyone you work with for an extended period of time would absolutely be your friend if u hadn’t already made them your enemy. This isn’t an office where your work is separate from coworker interactions. The two are intertwined here

Carrie Bradshaw is the LEAST interesting woman on the show, she's shallow, needy, cheesy and, well, ultimately stupid. She basically does the same mistakes all over again. What a poor image of the "modern" woman that the show seemed to mirror ... To me, the interesting ones were Samantha and Miranda. Those two were actually modern , smart and independent women.
Manda Clody Exactly, and it gave me the impression that SJP tried to humiliate Kim, giving her more and more ridiculous scenes and having her practically naked in every episode. Even there, Kim stole the show and “Carry” was more and more boring.
She could have learned from the cast of "Friends" who realized that they were an ensemble cast; they all considered each other as equal. The SATC cast was organized as a hierarchy, with SJP at the top earner and executive producer. She seems to fake sincerity and concern.
SATC wasn't an ensemble. SJP was the star of the show which is why she was able to become an executive producer. However, she had no control over the salaries of the other actresses or was in control of the scripts.
That was a cast that had three guys involved. It might not be politically correct but I've never worked with a group of women that didn't have at least two that hate each other.

This was one neutral speach after another. SJP spoke professionally and expressed gratitude toward her costars. People are on here "picking sides" but the vid didn't present any sort of evidence of a feud. Like she said to HS, nobody was asking the men in Sopranos if they were buddies. Kim even said in the notorious interview that they were coworkers, not enemies. People want so desperately to see women fight with each other.
They worked together and had fun but they didn’t hang out. No Sunday afternoon barbecues or get togethers to watch movies. I think that’s what Kim meant when she said they had never really been friends. I’m the same at work. I see my colleagues maybe twice a year at non work functions. I have my own life that doesn’t revolve around my career. I’ll always love SATC but it’s a show and the girls are just characters.

Kim Catrall expressed her relationship with Sarah as professional and the choice of words used by Sarah actually confirm it. True friends use very different language to describe their relationship. Sarah seems to always want to project being a good person, good girl syndrome shines a lot in her, and perhaps this is something she can't see about herself. Projection is a result on wanting to see yourself a certain way (and we supress some aspects of ourselves because its a very painful one) but it doesn't mean what we project, others will see it the same way. What I observe, is that Kim was to be able to discover her authentic true self on deeper levels. I believe when she described her relationship with Sarah as professional she was indeed experiencing this way. Sarah probably doesn't know what being actually needs to take place for Kim to become close friends. I believe Sarah when she says she was perhaps disappointed by finding out that Kim didn't feel a certain way about her, but that shows that Sarah perhaps can form friendships based on maybe more simple terms, connection based on more simplistic concepts and Kim's relationships perhaps require different levels of depth in order for her to feel / call it a friendship with someone.
@@beamoflight2581 An ex-coworker of mine had SJP on her long-haul flight some years ago and told me she's one of those people who treat others like rubbish (my coworker was shocked and disappointed by her rude behavior). I personally didn't like the show thus didn't watch much of it, don't really know anything about the actresses, and couldn't care less about their feud, but I can see I wouldn't want to have SJP for a coworker, let alone boss. It's just very apparent in her fake ways. Kim comes off as cold but correct and genuine. SJP seems to fake vulnerability a lot, even in her speeches, which is a massive red flag in general, and particularly in that kind of ruthless business.
SJP is such a basic woman. Even in real life, she's basic. Kim on the other hand, has depth. Her character may have been sexually promiscuous but she was an independent, loyal and caring friend.

I really don’t get the SJP hate. It’s no secret they weren’t crazy about each other, but she seems classy in her responses here. She’s not on Instagram going on rants like Kim Catrall. Samantha may have been the fan favorite, but the show was framed from Carries perspective. She was the main star, she was executive producer, she got paid more. I don’t blame Catrall being at the stage of her career asking for more money, but to make it seem like SJP is some evil woman seems really unfair. Like she says here, was anyone questioning James Gandolfini on his relationships with his costars?
It's sad to see this but they're both strong women. Kim gave us Samantha which was a radically different portrayal of women while SJP in real life has never succumbed to Hollywood's beauty standard, she could care less if people want to make fun of her nose she never broke down and went under the knife. These two women should be looked up to not have people take sides and try to tear down the other. People get a brain and see that they both have their faults but nonetheless they are amazing.

It really feels like they were all trying to push Kim into making the movie when she had clearly said she didn't want any part of it and then when she made her point clear in her interview, sarah just nit-picked it to find really ANYTHING she had said that she could manipulate it's meaning and twist it against her, thus appearing "offended" when kim said they were colleagues while she, the nice hurt little victim had considered her "family" 😑not even adressing anything else kim had said in that interview. I'm just proud of kim for holding her own and making her point crystal clear (in front of an absolute prick like morgan no less) and glad people didn't fall for sarah's obvious attempts to demonitize her after she said no to the movie and her victim card after kim's interview. Wish I had been as strong as her while my friends/bullies stabbed me in the back then ganged up on me and made me out to be the bad guy.
I don't really see how everyone's so sure Sarah Jessica was a bully just because one person didn't get along with her. I don't know either one of them obviously but I thought SJ sending a condolence was just the polite thing that people do, and for Kim Cattrall to send that nasty public message was incredibly childish and rude. I agree. I think actually the worst people feel just entitled to harass people they don't know on social media and create a narrative of being the "nice ones". UA-cam comment sections attract the worst people I think. Most normal people don't hate like that for something that they know nothing about. People also are projecting their characters onto them talking about Samantha vs Carrie as if that isn’t wholly irrelevant. I wasn’t on the set, so I try to remain as neutral as possible in this feud and everyone else should too. Only thing I’ll say is that it’s suspicious that Kim has no one coming to her side against SJP. Everyone’s statements have been somewhat neutral, but in support of SJP by stating they don’t remember SJP being as cruel as she’s being described.

I used to be a member of a big rock group. Although you try and remain good friends and co-workers, you are only human, and humans have disagreements and egos that bruise easily. This is what tears even the most famous rock groups apart, and I have no doubt that the same factors effect everyone - from backstabbing in the office, to working on a movie set, and to your very own family. It's the media that makes a big thing out of simple human behavior, just to sell scandal sheets and dumb reality shows, instead of concentrating on the topics that really matter. Get over it, and move on.

So, accept on an award by giving equal credit to your co-stars, telling reporters on a red carpet that you have empathy for someone you know, and actually contemplating the questions AC asks you somehow makes SJP a phoney bitch? Sad world we live in. I actually considered myself a fan of KC ever since I saw her in “Mannequin”. But the way people are ripping SJP to shreds for giving condolences makes me feel oddly protective of her. I am honestly bothered that we live in a world where giving condolences makes you a bad person. And some of the comments below are just baffling. Kim Cattrall is NOT Samantha Jones, and Sarah Jessica Parker is NOT Carrie Bradshaw. Some people honestly don’t seem to know the difference. So here is my own dumb opinion; KC has been very open about the fact that she turned down the role of Samantha Jones multiple times, yet she played Samantha Jones. During the series run, she released a book - which I admittedly didn’t read - but it had something to do with being sexy, or sensual, or something very “Samantha-esqe”, and she wrote it with her husband. She stated at the time, during an interview about the book - that she had never had true intimacy with anyone until she married her then husband. (I’m paraphrasing but I distinctly remember her saying “NEVER”). He was her 3rd husband. Not judging, but that had to be embarrassing for at least 2 other people. And it was a jackass thing to say when Sean Penn said it after divorcing Robin Wright, as well as Madonna. When the series ended, there was immediate talk about a movie. Word then was that she was the one who didn’t want to do it. She made some Disney movie that I’m guessing most of her defenders grew up watching. She obviously relented, and we had SATC The Movie, and SATC 2. Then, 20 years after the start of the series, she gives an interview where she says that she ate alone on set, however she feels this is the correct and professional thing to do. She also reiterated that she was 10 years older than the other cast members, and didn’t feel “a connection” and that SJP “could have been nicer”. So, 3 more people she threw under the bus very passive aggressively. Also, during the same interview she poses some hypothetical questions: “can’t they make the movie without Samantha?” Or perhaps “Cast another actress. Perhaps someone of color.” All very good points right? The only thing is Kim. You DID play Samantha Jones. Fans are asking for a reunion, not a recasting. And to throw in the comment that they could recast her role with someone of color is particularly- scratch that - completely the most passive aggressive thing I’ve ever heard. Yes, for one would LOVE to see an Asian Samantha Jones. I also think Angela Bassett, or Lynn Whitfield would also make a great SJ. But that would technically be a different version because SJ was the very white and blonde Kim Cattrall! It’s passive aggressive because she makes it sound like she did them a favor by bothering to play this role that she can’t stop reminding us that she didn’t want. And by saying that she would like to see a woman of color play SJ, she is implying that the show was intentionally non-diverse, and it almost sounds like she, and she alone, has petitioned for a more diverse cast. SATC was not diverse. Can’t change the past. An all Asian version would be awesome. So would an all AA cast. An all Jewish cast. An all LGBT cast. The point is, it’s a little late to try to make SATC diverse by recasting Samantha Jones 20 years after she deigned to originate the role. To me, she is the phoney one. She says all of the right things that today’s audience wants to hear, but overall it looks like she can’t make up her f--ng mind which side of the fence she wants to be on. Also, SJP is “phoney” for sending condolences to a woman who clearly doesn’t like her, but KC is “real” when she smiles and feigns congratulations for SJP when she won her two awards? Did we all see the same video? The truth is, she has the right to not do what ever movie she wants. But don’t make it seem like she is not denying the fans, the other co-stars, the lighting, craft services, make up artists, even cleaning staff the opportunity to work again for a big budget Film. And in the real world, the producers aren’t likely to bank roll a third movie in which they decide to recast. That’s not realistic. She is using buzz words and phrases that make HER the nice one. Anyone who has been in the workforce at least 10 years knows that there is always that one person who “doesn’t want to be here”, doesn’t get along with anyone, acts as if they are being forced to do something they don’t want to do and the ones who put on their professional hats and force themselves to go along to get along are just phoney cu-ts. And somehow this one person convinces every customer how put upon and victimized they are bc they smile, say the right things and use the whole “I’m just a simple working girl doing my job while everyone shyts on me.” And what that person manages to do is to make the customer love them ,ore than the franchise because that feeds their ego and their “nice girl” image. But in retrospect, that person is the one who doesn’t have long term relationships, and they always seem to go from job to job, but never “fit in”. And maybe it’s just me, but anyone who acts like a caged animal when someone basically says “regardless of how you feel about me, I’m sorry you are going through a hard time right now.” Is someone I avoid like the f-ing plague bc that is a very unstable person. But, she must be genuine bc she is the one criticizing. It’s the Trump era, and anyone who whines, complains and is generally inconsistent MUST be the most truthful. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were doing this all over again in about 25 years with Katherine Heigal.
People are easily manipulated because they want to hate and bully but disguising it in "helping the victim". I'm sure a lot of these people are very young and like you say do not differentiate the character they love from the professional that play them unfortunately. But sure Kim Cathral sounds like a very instable and easily offended person.
This new reboot has these old interviews and "feuds" resurfacing. But overall, I agree with your assessment. I said long ago that people seem to conflate Kim Cattrall the person, with Samantha Jones, the character and this makes for ridiculous and unrealistic comments. To me, Samantha Jones the character is funny and likable, but Kim Cattrall the person, is simply an a-hole (in my opinion). To slam a person who offers condolences, again, in my opinion, speaks volumes of that person. And, for argument's sake, because none of us were there, let's say that Cattrall is telling the truth, why slam SJP publicly when she could have sent her a direct message asking her to remove the Tweet and not bother with her again? I will always say that Kim Cattrall, in some way, has always sought the attention of people because she always seems to be the aggressor. Where was Cattrall before this Tweet she sent? On top of all that, we're now supposed to believe that SJP was a bully, but the stories about her being a diva and holding the SATC 3 production hostage until her personal projects demands were met, are somehow all bullshit stories? SJP has always said great things about her cast mates and she clearly believed them to be family, but clearly, Cattrall felt differently...even though she smiled and apparently faked support during all of these award shows...But she is not full of crap, right? My overall takeaway is that Kim Cattrall is now, and has always been, jealous over the lack of recognition she felt she deserved. She always talks about how she played that character "beyond the finish line" in her words, so she clearly felt that she gave this character her all, but got nothing back for her efforts! Cattrall won only one award after being nominated about 5 times, so that has to sting for someone who supposedly played their character beyond the finish line! Cattrall, like many, felt that she carried that show and, like many others, was wring about that. In my opinion, they should have killed off her character in this reboot, if for no other reason, than to just put an end to this Kim Cattrall bullshit once and for all. The only drawback from this move is that it probably put her back on the talkshow circuit with new stories of how being killed off has now emotionally traumatized her... Yes, emotionally traumatized by a show that she doesn't want to be on! I think she is horrible attention-seeking person who cannot see her own truly important limitations...and I don't mean acting.

Here's the thing..."Friends" hang out with each other, take care of each other's kids, cook for one another, come over and let you cry on them when there is a heartbreak, bring over tequila when someone wonderful happens. Colleagues work together and then go home at the end of the day and don't really even make a phone call to one another unless someone happens at work they need you for. I'm expecting they fell into the latter, but Sarah thinks that spending the day at work together makes you 'friends'. I really believe this is a difference of interpretation of the word "Friend" and that's just stupid.
I always wondered about the majority of actors and actresses and friendships. Someone could work on a show for years with people and the facade is they all get along and have to be friends since they are together for so long everyday during their work schedules. But, then when the show is over, the majority of them just say goodbye and that's it. They never hear from each other again. I always thought that was sort of weird. Some do stay in touch, but, like I said, the majority of them never see each other again, let alone exchange a phone call or two. Now, I guess they don't text anymore once they move on.
well i think you can have “work friends” that you chat with at work and maybe occasionally have lunch but you don’t hang out with them outside of work so i think there’s different levels of friendships.
Work is about earning a paycheck and not being friends. Just because you work with someone and see them on a daily basis, doesn't mean that you spend time together away from work.
I liked it, it had the pace of the series (unlike the first movie that was way too long and too focused on Carrie), Samantha stole the show (like always) and I laughed a lot with her.
The second SATC movie was God-awful. I agree with the OP. It absolutely killed any notion of a third film. They would have have to kill off one of the characters for a third act.

Very nice take of what must have happened. There is a report that once SJP rented a house during filming and invited the 2 co-stars but not Kim Cattrall. I doubt she was unfair when she claimed SJP was not nice.
I have just never understood the whole adoration of SJP that I've seen and heard over the years. I still hear women who I assume are relatively intelligent women hold her up as a fashion icon and beauty guru. Mind boggling...nevermind that she isn't even a pretty woman, but appears unable to hide her meanness. Kim in my opinion is head and shoulders above her in every way, beauty, grace, sincerity, integrity. She's the real deal.

It’s funny how people are compelled to pick sides in this “conflict” (often grafting their own biases and personal experiences onto these people who they don’t actually know in real life). A far more likely scenario than someone being the good guy and someone being the bad guy is there was probably some degree of fault and possibly diva behavior on both sides. Also keep in mind, we often forget, these are actors who by their very nature can be prone to dramatic flair, ego, and insecurity. I have no evidence of this, of course, but it isn’t unreasonable to suggest that some of what makes these people interesting to watch on screen can also translate to eccentric and dramatic behavior off-screen and that can mean conflict between each other.
The fact everyone in the cast kept on working with Ms Parker explains it all. Ms Cattrall had the right to leave, of course, but it seems she put herself on a pedestal and wants others to worship her. Her reply to Ms Parker's condolence message was totally unnecessary and showed the amount of hate she sees everywhere, even in the middle of a family tragedy.
I understand Kim's side. SJP was a nasty vile woman. What part of that do you not understand? She was toxic towards Kim. You don't just pull that out of thin air. She was mean. So Kim gave her the truth. Step away you fake B pretty much. Kim was classy in the way she put SJP in her spot.

All of a sudden Kim starts saying she has never been friends with her costars. Huh? Six seasons and 2 movies and now you say SJP could have been “nicer”? Kim was lying to take the negative press off of her and threw Sarah under the bus. No one on the set has ever spoken against SJP.

Samantha did not have the spotlight. To fans of the show who loved her, THEY may have gravitated more to her non-existent storylines (I mean, we get it, in this episode you’re going to sleep with a new guy; how much skill does that take?), but not all of us felt that way. She was certainly my least favorite and least nuanced character. Her most interesting storyline was Richard (not even the cancer). Other than that, she was just the one who slept with a different guy each episode. Not sure what was so great or deep about that, but I certainly did not tune in each week for that.
Even if Kim is right who cares that SJP showed condolences on Instagram, is that something to make a huge deal about??? Even if Kim is under the impression that it wasn't sincere why not just ignore it and go on with your life?! I've never understood peoples obsession with turning private feuds public because in the end it's between the two of you and only you know everything that went down and involving a bunch of other people will only cause unnecessary drama and speculation and gossip... It's very possible anyway that they weren't exactly bffs offset. Acting is a job like any other one and it's a good thing to be able to get along with the people you work with but you don't gotta be best friends.

Well i liked all four women on the show but it seems that now is Kim against the other 3, not just SJP. if you hear to all the statements they`ve made the bitchy ones are from Kim, just like her character in the show. there is no reason for SJP to be jealous of Kim as she was ex.producing the show so it meant more money to her, she was the most popular actress at the time, with successful movies too, so yeah she would get paid more. Samantha`s part was liked more because of the bitchy lines and the sex life related matters which were bigger than life but if SJP was jealous she could change that as Ex. producer. I believe they both had the same experience but perceived it very differently. SJP didn't claim to be besties she said they were professional but with so many years in it's like family. Kim felt like SJP could've been nicer. That doesn't mean SJP had any malice. It really sounds like personality differences. Not everyone is warm and extra friendly and some may perceive that has not nice.
I see that most commenters side with Kim. I love Kim too, but I don’t know what the true story is. Many people complain about the character of Carrie, comparing her to Samantha. But BTW, those were fictional characters. Carrie was written by writers, not SJP. I found her character to be quirky , funny, and interesting to watch. I adored her great fashion sense, created by the shows’ designer, the brilliant Patricia Field. Samantha was fantastic too. I’ve never read of SJP being mean to co- workers. After all these years, usually that stuff leaks out. I’ve no doubt that Kim was very hurt by SJP. But what really happened? Maybe SJP was horrible, maybe something happened that should have been resolved. Perhaps only they really know. It’s sad.

I ride with Kim. I was bullied in HS and everything Kim experienced was so familiar to me. Years later, the bullies never recalled things that I reminded them they'd said and done because they had moved on and matured with children of their own, so they couldn't fathom that they'd hurt others and left such deep psychological scars. Bullies live in the moment and SJP strikes me as a mean girl. That overly sweet, high-pitched, innocent persona during that first clip was phony and irritating. Chris Noth's face in the second clip said it all. I wish she would just say, "I was younger with a lot of power and I made mistakes." Instead, she's deflecting it like Kim is a liar. I see both sides and I'm pretty sure it got contentious at times, but I believe Kim was forced to stand her ground.

You're either friends or you're not. I work with people every day that I wouldn't call my friends. I don't dislike them or wish them any ill will. We get along great and laugh together while we work, but still, they're not exactly my friends. They're not in my life other than at the "office."

Carrie Bradshaw is the LEAST interesting woman on the show, she's shallow, needy, cheesy and, well, ultimately stupid. She basically does the same mistakes all over again. What a poor image of the "modern" woman that the show seemed to mirror ... To me, the interesting ones were Samantha and Miranda. Those two were actually modern , smart and independent women.

She could have learned from the cast of "Friends" who realized that they were an ensemble cast; they all considered each other as equal. The SATC cast was organized as a hierarchy, with SJP at the top earner and executive producer. She seems to fake sincerity and concern.
SATC wasn't an ensemble. SJP was the star of the show which is why she was able to become an executive producer. However, she had no control over the salaries of the other actresses or was in control of the scripts.
Courtney Cox was the more established name when friends started, but she didn't act like SJP.

This was one neutral speach after another. SJP spoke professionally and expressed gratitude toward her costars. People are on here "picking sides" but the vid didn't present any sort of evidence of a feud. Like she said to HS, nobody was asking the men in Sopranos if they were buddies. Kim even said in the notorious interview that they were coworkers, not enemies. People want so desperately to see women fight with each other.

They worked together and had fun but they didn’t hang out. No Sunday afternoon barbecues or get togethers to watch movies. I think that’s what Kim meant when she said they had never really been friends. I’m the same at work. I see my colleagues maybe twice a year at non work functions. I have my own life that doesn’t revolve around my career. I’ll always love SATC but it’s a show and the girls are just characters.

Kim Catrall expressed her relationship with Sarah as professional and the choice of words used by Sarah actually confirm it. True friends use very different language to describe their relationship. Sarah seems to always want to project being a good person, good girl syndrome shines a lot in her, and perhaps this is something she can't see about herself.
Projection is a result on wanting to see yourself a certain way (and we supress some aspects of ourselves because its a very painful one) but it doesn't mean what we project, others will see it the same way. What I observe, is that Kim was to be able to discover her authentic true self on deeper levels. I believe when she described her relationship with Sarah as professional she was indeed experiencing this way. Sarah probably doesn't know what being actually needs to take place for Kim to become close friends. I believe Sarah when she says she was perhaps disappointed by finding out that Kim didn't feel a certain way about her, but that shows that Sarah perhaps can form friendships based on maybe more simple terms, connection based on more simplistic concepts and Kim's relationships perhaps require different levels of depth in order for her to feel / call it a friendship with someone.

@@beamoflight2581 An ex-coworker of mine had SJP on her long-haul flight some years ago and told me she's one of those people who treat others like rubbish (my coworker was shocked and disappointed by her rude behavior). I personally didn't like the show thus didn't watch much of it, don't really know anything about the actresses, and couldn't care less about their feud, but I can see I wouldn't want to have SJP for a coworker, let alone boss. It's just very apparent in her fake ways. Kim comes off as cold but correct and genuine. SJP seems to fake vulnerability a lot, even in her speeches, which is a massive red flag in general, and particularly in that kind of ruthless business.

I really don’t get the SJP hate. It’s no secret they weren’t crazy about each other, but she seems classy in her responses here. She’s not on Instagram going on rants like Kim Catrall. Samantha may have been the fan favorite, but the show was framed from Carries perspective. She was the main star, she was executive producer, she got paid more. I don’t blame Catrall being at the stage of her career asking for more money, but to make it seem like SJP is some evil woman seems really unfair. Like she says here, was anyone questioning James Gandolfini on his relationships with his costars?
It's sad to see this but they're both strong women. Kim gave us Samantha which was a radically different portrayal of women while SJP in real life has never succumbed to Hollywood's beauty standard, she could care less if people want to make fun of her nose she never broke down and went under the knife. These two women should be looked up to not have people take sides and try to tear down the other. People get a brain and see that they both have their faults but nonetheless they are amazing.

Sarah is by far the more talented & she is an actual movie star & a fashion icon, like it or not. The only other thing I remember Kim in was Mannequin which was only watchable due to Andrew McCarthy. It really feels like they were all trying to push Kim into making the movie when she had clearly said she didn't want any part of it and then when she made her point clear in her interview, sarah just nit-picked it to find really ANYTHING she had said that she could manipulate it's meaning and twist it against her, thus appearing "offended" when kim said they were colleagues while she, the nice hurt little victim had considered her "family" 😑not even adressing anything else kim had said in that interview. I'm just proud of kim for holding her own and making her point crystal clear (in front of an absolute prick like morgan no less) and glad people didn't fall for sarah's obvious attempts to demonitize her after she said no to the movie and her victim card after kim's interview. Wish I had been as strong as her while my friends/bullies stabbed me in the back then ganged up on me and made me out to be the bad guy.

I don't really see how everyone's so sure Sarah Jessica was a bully just because one person didn't get along with her. I don't know either one of them obviously but I thought SJ sending a condolence was just the polite thing that people do, and for Kim Cattrall to send that nasty public message was incredibly childish and rude. Maybe people are so nasty online now they think that's an OK way to behave, but it really isn't. If she had a problem with SJ she should have told her to her face.
I agree. I think actually the worst people feel just entitled to harass people they don't know on social media and create a narrative of being the "nice ones". UA-cam comment sections attract the worst people I think. Most normal people don't hate like that for something that they know nothing about. Agreed. I think a lot of these ppl just want an excuse, other than “she’s so ugly”, to tear down SJP. For years, ppl online were cruel saying she looked like a foot or a horse and now that bullying has morphed into a very fake “she just gives me a bad feeling.” Or “she just seems like a bully.” Does she or are you influenced by Kim’s words and biased towards her cause of her looks? People also are projecting their characters onto them talking about Samantha vs Carrie as if that isn’t wholly irrelevant. I wasn’t on the set, so I try to remain as neutral as possible in this feud and everyone else should too. Only thing I’ll say is that it’s suspicious that Kim has no one coming to her side against SJP. Everyone’s statements have been somewhat neutral, but in support of SJP by stating they don’t remember SJP being as cruel as she’s being described.

I used to be a member of a big rock group. Although you try and remain good friends and co-workers, you are only human, and humans have disagreements and egos that bruise easily. This is what tears even the most famous rock groups apart, and I have no doubt that the same factors effect everyone - from backstabbing in the office, to working on a movie set, and to your very own family. It's the media that makes a big thing out of simple human behavior, just to sell scandal sheets and dumb reality shows, instead of concentrating on the topics that really matter. Get over it, and move on.

I actually considered myself a fan of KC ever since I saw her in “Mannequin”. But the way people are ripping SJP to shreds for giving condolences makes me feel oddly protective of her. I am honestly bothered that we live in a world where giving condolences makes you a bad person. And some of the comments below are just baffling. Kim Cattrall is NOT Samantha Jones, and Sarah Jessica Parker is NOT Carrie Bradshaw. Some people honestly don’t seem to know the difference. So here is my own dumb opinion;
KC has been very open about the fact that she turned down the role of Samantha Jones multiple times, yet she played Samantha Jones. During the series run, she released a book - which I admittedly didn’t read - but it had something to do with being sexy, or sensual, or something very “Samantha-esqe”, and she wrote it with her husband. She stated at the time, during an interview about the book - that she had never had true intimacy with anyone until she married her then husband. (I’m paraphrasing but I distinctly remember her saying “NEVER”). He was her 3rd husband. Not judging, but that had to be embarrassing for at least 2 other people. And it was a jackass thing to say when Sean Penn said it after divorcing Robin Wright, as well as Madonna.
When the series ended, there was immediate talk about a movie. Word then was that she was the one who didn’t want to do it. She made some Disney movie that I’m guessing most of her defenders grew up watching. She obviously relented, and we had SATC The Movie, and SATC 2. Then, 20 years after the start of the series, she gives an interview where she says that she ate alone on set, however she feels this is the correct and professional thing to do. She also reiterated that she was 10 years older than the other cast members, and didn’t feel “a connection” and that SJP “could have been nicer”. So, 3 more people she threw under the bus very passive aggressively. Also, during the same interview she poses some hypothetical questions: “can’t they make the movie without Samantha?” Or perhaps “Cast another actress. Perhaps someone of color.” All very good points right? The only thing is Kim. You DID play Samantha Jones. Fans are asking for a reunion, not a recasting. And to throw in the comment that they could recast her role with someone of color is particularly- scratch that - completely the most passive aggressive thing I’ve ever heard. Yes, for one would LOVE to see an Asian Samantha Jones. I also think Angela Bassett, or Lynn Whitfield would also make a great SJ. But that would technically be a different version because SJ was the very white and blonde Kim Cattrall! It’s passive aggressive because she makes it sound like she did them a favor by bothering to play this role that she can’t stop reminding us that she didn’t want. And by saying that she would like to see a woman of color play SJ, she is implying that the show was intentionally non-diverse, and it almost sounds like she, and she alone, has petitioned for a more diverse cast. SATC was not diverse. Can’t change the past. An all Asian version would be awesome. So would an all AA cast. An all Jewish cast. An all LGBT cast. The point is, it’s a little late to try to make SATC diverse by recasting Samantha Jones 20 years after she deigned to originate the role. To me, she is the phoney one. She says all of the right things that today’s audience wants to hear, but overall it looks like she can’t make up her f--ng mind which side of the fence she wants to be on.
Also, SJP is “phoney” for sending condolences to a woman who clearly doesn’t like her, but KC is “real” when she smiles and feigns congratulations for SJP when she won her two awards? Did we all see the same video?
The truth is, she has the right to not do what ever movie she wants. But don’t make it seem like she is not denying the fans, the other co-stars, the lighting, craft services, make up artists, even cleaning staff the opportunity to work again for a big budget Film. And in the real world, the producers aren’t likely to bank roll a third movie in which they decide to recast. That’s not realistic. She is using buzz words and phrases that make HER the nice one. Anyone who has been in the workforce at least 10 years knows that there is always that one person who “doesn’t want to be here”, doesn’t get along with anyone, acts as if they are being forced to do something they don’t want to do and the ones who put on their professional hats and force themselves to go along to get along are just phoney cu-ts. And somehow this one person convinces every customer how put upon and victimized they are bc they smile, say the right things and use the whole “I’m just a simple working girl doing my job while everyone shyts on me.” And what that person manages to do is to make the customer love them ,ore than the franchise because that feeds their ego and their “nice girl” image. But in retrospect, that person is the one who doesn’t have long term relationships, and they always seem to go from job to job, but never “fit in”.
And maybe it’s just me, but anyone who acts like a caged animal when someone basically says “regardless of how you feel about me, I’m sorry you are going through a hard time right now.” Is someone I avoid like the f-ing plague bc that is a very unstable person.
But, she must be genuine bc she is the one criticizing.
It’s the Trump era, and anyone who whines, complains and is generally inconsistent MUST be the most truthful. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were doing this all over again in about 25 years with Katherine Heigal.
People are easily manipulated because they want to hate and bully but disguising it in "helping the victim". I'm sure a lot of these people are very young and like you say do not differentiate the character they love from the professional that play them unfortunately. But sure Kim Cathral sounds like a very instable and easily offended person.
This new reboot has these old interviews and "feuds" resurfacing. But overall, I agree with your assessment. I said long ago that people seem to conflate Kim Cattrall the person, with Samantha Jones, the character and this makes for ridiculous and unrealistic comments. To me, Samantha Jones the character is funny and likable, but Kim Cattrall the person, is simply an a-hole (in my opinion).
To slam a person who offers condolences, again, in my opinion, speaks volumes of that person. And, for argument's sake, because none of us were there, let's say that Cattrall is telling the truth, why slam SJP publicly when she could have sent her a direct message asking her to remove the Tweet and not bother with her again? I will always say that Kim Cattrall, in some way, has always sought the attention of people because she always seems to be the aggressor. Where was Cattrall before this Tweet she sent? On top of all that, we're now supposed to believe that SJP was a bully, but the stories about her being a diva and holding the SATC 3 production hostage until her personal projects demands were met, are somehow all bullshit stories?
SJP has always said great things about her cast mates and she clearly believed them to be family, but clearly, Cattrall felt differently...even though she smiled and apparently faked support during all of these award shows...But she is not full of crap, right?
My overall takeaway is that Kim Cattrall is now, and has always been, jealous over the lack of recognition she felt she deserved. She always talks about how she played that character "beyond the finish line" in her words, so she clearly felt that she gave this character her all, but got nothing back for her efforts! Cattrall won only one award after being nominated about 5 times, so that has to sting for someone who supposedly played their character beyond the finish line! Cattrall, like many, felt that she carried that show and, like many others, was wring about that.
In my opinion, they should have killed off her character in this reboot, if for no other reason, than to just put an end to this Kim Cattrall bullshit once and for all. The only drawback from this move is that it probably put her back on the talkshow circuit with new stories of how being killed off has now emotionally traumatized her... Yes, emotionally traumatized by a show that she doesn't want to be on! I think she is horrible attention-seeking person who cannot see her own truly important limitations...and I don't mean acting.
Ms Cattrall behaviour seems kind of what abusers do: for them, nobody is worth and everyone should worship them. Creepy.

I don't honestly know to this day what I did wrong to be treated like that and she wouldn't get down from her pedestal to explain her sudden cold behaviour, even after I asked her so, which made it impossible to make it up for her, whatever I supposedly did wrong. Then I recalled she used to speak badly of lots of people (nobody was worth for her) and I concluded she was actually an abuser, who considers herself so perfect, she feels like ghosting people and wants to be worshipped. Here's the thing..."Friends" hang out with each other, take care of each other's kids, cook for one another, come over and let you cry on them when there is a heartbreak, bring over tequila when someone wonderful happens. Colleagues work together and then go home at the end of the day and don't really even make a phone call to one another unless someone happens at work they need you for. I'm expecting they fell into the latter, but Sarah thinks that spending the day at work together makes you 'friends'. I really believe this is a difference of interpretation of the word "Friend" and that's just stupid.
I always wondered about the majority of actors and actresses and friendships. Someone could work on a show for years with people and the facade is they all get along and have to be friends since they are together for so long everyday during their work schedules. But, then when the show is over, the majority of them just say goodbye and that's it. They never hear from each other again. I always thought that was sort of weird. Some do stay in touch, but, like I said, the majority of them never see each other again, let alone exchange a phone call or two. Now, I guess they don't text anymore once they move on.
well i think you can have “work friends” that you chat with at work and maybe occasionally have lunch but you don’t hang out with them outside of work so i think there’s different levels of friendships.
Work is about earning a paycheck and not being friends. Just because you work with someone and see them on a daily basis, doesn't mean that you spend time together away from work.
The second SATC movie was very poor indeed. It killed the franchise independent of any cast issues.
I liked it, it had the pace of the series (unlike the first movie that was way too long and too focused on Carrie), Samantha stole the show (like always) and I laughed a lot with her.

I have just never understood the whole adoration of SJP that I've seen and heard over the years. I still hear women who I assume are relatively intelligent women hold her up as a fashion icon and beauty guru. It’s funny how people are compelled to pick sides in this “conflict” (often grafting their own biases and personal experiences onto these people who they don’t actually know in real life). A far more likely scenario than someone being the good guy and someone being the bad guy is there was probably some degree of fault and possibly diva behavior on both sides. Also keep in mind, we often forget, these are actors who by their very nature can be prone to dramatic flair, ego, and insecurity. I have no evidence of this, of course, but it isn’t unreasonable to suggest that some of what makes these people interesting to watch on screen can also translate to eccentric and dramatic behavior off-screen and that can mean conflict between each other.

I was not taking side until I saw nobody from the rest of the cast, entire crew or anybody have anything but good things to say about SJP.
The fact everyone in the cast kept on working with Ms Parker explains it all. Ms Cattrall had the right to leave, of course, but it seems she put herself on a pedestal and wants others to worship her. Her reply to Ms Parker's condolence message was totally unnecessary and showed the amount of hate she sees everywhere, even in the middle of a family tragedy.

When it was time for SATC3 movie discussions and Kim demands were not met, she decided not to sign on and the media blamed her. @leon8160 I agree that people might say regretful things when stressed, but it's a matter of maintaining some self-control... if one can't do that, it'll be an exhausting struggle for the person, and everyone around will be stepping on eggshells.
when the show started, Carrie was meant to be the center of it all. once the show went on, Samantha seemed to have the spotlight. maybe, and I mean MAYBE, someone was not happy about it? ... just my theory :)
Samantha did not have the spotlight. To fans of the show who loved her, THEY may have gravitated more to her non-existent storylines (I mean, we get it, in this episode you’re going to sleep with a new guy; how much skill does that take?), but not all of us felt that way. She was certainly my least favorite and least nuanced character. Her most interesting storyline was Richard (not even the cancer). Other than that, she was just the one who slept with a different guy each episode. Not sure what was so great or deep about that, but I certainly did not tune in each week for that.

Even if Kim is right who cares that SJP showed condolences on Instagram, is that something to make a huge deal about??? Even if Kim is under the impression that it wasn't sincere why not just ignore it and go on with your life?! I've never understood peoples obsession with turning private feuds public because in the end it's between the two of you and only you know everything that went down and involving a bunch of other people will only cause unnecessary drama and speculation and gossip... It's very possible anyway that they weren't exactly bffs offset. Acting is a job like any other one and it's a good thing to be able to get along with the people you work with but you don't gotta be best friends.
I enjoyed the show and I don't care if the cast liked each other or not...actors act to entertain and being friends with the rest of the cast is not in the contract...
Everyone has to keep in mind there are 2 sides to a story.
They all had their purpose on the show. PERIOD. Saying Carrie is the worst character....... but I’m sure you know many of them. The idea of the show was for you to be able to relate...... they all achieved that. Feud or no feud, the show is amazing
What’s interesting is the fact that SJP said she’s heartbroken to hear that Kim said they weren’t friends. Her response seems very self centered, because if you really cared about someone you would ask them what YOU did to offend them, you’d LISTEN to & hear what their experience or perspective was or where they’re coming, because you care - as a friend
Not possible when that person doesn't want to talk to you and asks you to leave them alone.
I've been watching the shows in years ,me and my friends thought that Samantha is the Main Role.
Yessss.. Samantha always nailed each scene she was on it.
I love this show and want a 3rd movie, but I totally respect and understand why Kim said NO. I don't blame her one bit. If the fans knew the whole story they'd understand it needed to come to an end.

Well i liked all four women on the show but it seems that now is Kim against the other 3, not just SJP. if you hear to all the statements they`ve made the bitchy ones are from Kim, just like her character in the show. there is no reason for SJP to be jealous of Kim as she was ex.producing the show so it meant more money to her, she was the most popular actress at the time, with successful movies too, so yeah she would get paid more. Samantha`s part was liked more because of the bitchy lines and the sex life related matters which were bigger than life but if SJP was jealous she could change that as Ex. producer. So cool it off against SJP with bully references etc, at the end of the day they all made lots of money from it.

The funny thing is people expect celebs to get along but they can't get along with their own family members or co-workers. People are people and it is what it is. Celebs are no different. That show was just a job for them. Hell, I have had MANY co-workers I NEVER want to see again.
TEAM KIM, but I do think that SJP is not a bad person, just very caught up with herself. She agreed to her pay being higher than everyone else's, instead of going down the route of sticking with her co stars, like the FRIENDS actors did, they negotiated for ALL OF THEM TO GET PAID THE SAME.

I believe they both had the same experience but perceived it very differently. SJP didn't claim to be besties she said they were professional but with so many years in it's like family. Kim felt like SJP could've been nicer. That doesn't mean SJP had any malice. It really sounds like personality differences. Not everyone is warm and extra friendly and some may perceive that has not nice.
I see that most commenters side with Kim. I love Kim too, but I don’t know what the true story is. Many people complain about the character of Carrie, comparing her to Samantha. But BTW, those were fictional characters. Carrie was written by writers, not SJP. I found her character to be quirky , funny, and interesting to watch. I adored her great fashion sense, created by the shows’ designer, the brilliant Patricia Field. Samantha was fantastic too. I’ve never read of SJP being mean to co- workers. After all these years, usually that stuff leaks out. I’ve no doubt that Kim was very hurt by SJP. But what really happened? Maybe SJP was horrible, maybe something happened that should have been resolved. Perhaps only they really know. It’s sad.
