Nice work with the drip rail! I have a question. I always hated grinding my welds with my MIG, using the mig wire with the TIG, is it softer to grind? Isn’t MiG wire harder so that it can be ran through the tube? I mean the temper of it? You know how it seems springy? Anyway keep up the good work!
Thanks, mig vs tig wire are very similar, one is not harder that the other, the mig welding process makes the weld harder and more brittle which means it’s not happy about being planished so not allowing the weld to flatten, whereas the tig process allows for a softer more malleable weld allowing the metal to be closer to the parent metal therefore planishes out flatter and making for actual a stronger weld. The migs tensile strength is very high, higher than the parent metal because of the heat/cooling process and this makes it want to crack when being planished or if you ever notice when you bend the metal back and forth it will break right next to the weld and that’s because mig welds are so hard. So the short answer is it’s the process not the wire that makes the welds harder or softer.
I won’t say you can’t but have have heard it’s best to stay in one direction because it does bunch the metal up as it’s moving in one direction because it has nowhere to go if you block it with weld, kind of like damming a river.

Remember magnets screw up tig welds if you get close to them. It pulls the arc out all crazy

Zero Tig Experience. Can you jump around on the seam like you would with a Mig?
