    Delighted that you're including the topolect of Jiangxi! And it's very helpful that you include both Chinese and English subtitles. With this help, even with my very rudimentary level of Mandarin, I was able to recognize a few words from your speech.
    What you said about Jiangxi tones made me very curious about the tone system. Since you aren't sure how many tones, it makes me suspect that tones might interact with grammar (like Mandarin reduction to neutral tone or syntax-driven Southern Min tone sandhi), and I'm curious now how it works.

    0:50 its very interesting that Cantonese sounds very similar to southeast asian countries, namely vietnamese and a liiiiiitle bit of thailandese. ( this comes from my very rudimentary knowledge of the three languages, but i at least can differentiate most asian languages from each other due to how they sound )

      The line I toss out is "a language is a dialect with an army and a navy". There is only one Chinese language. And that is Mandarin. The others are called dialects. 😂😂😂

    • @nicelogin2
      @nicelogin2 Рік тому

      That is not true. The oldest dialect of all is Hokkien, if you want to consider it as the first language in the ancient China. It then evolved into Cantonese. There is a way to prove that Mandarin came after. If you read the ancient poems, the characters do not rhythm fluently in Mandarin. Just because Mandarin is used primarily in China nowadays, that doesn't make other ones dialects and making Mandarin the only 'Chinese'. The same applies to the writing systems as well. You don't call 'Simplified Chinese' being the only system while completely ignoring 'Traditional Chinese'. Chinese is just a general term. Simplified Chinese only came in less than 80 years ago. It was around that time when people in mainland China were being forced to practice Mandarin. That doesn't mean Mandarin only existed 80 years ago.

    • @nicelogin2
      @nicelogin2 Рік тому

      There is another way to learn that 'Chinese' is just a general term. According to the Hong Kong government, the official languages and writing systems are English and Chinese. However, it doesn't explicitly describing which Chinese dialect or Chinese writing are the official ones. Therefore, any Chinese dialects or Chinese writing systems can be considered as official.
