For those of you who never heard of it, there's a famous sweet in Brazil called 'rapadura' which is a solid block version of that liquid extracted from the sugar cane, and there's a more refined version of it called 'merendê' which is awesome as well. There's also an alcoholic beverage made out of sugar cane called 'cachaça' which is widely appreciated too.

Know what you're buying in the store. If the package says, "Sugar, Table Sugar, Granulated Sugar" it is likely GMO sugar beets. "Cane Sugar" is obviously from cane. I only use organic cane. :o)
Dude, every effect has multiple causes. You could say truthfully the main cause of obesity is our biology. Of course people have to practice restraint. But right now there's so much misinformation that many people simply don't even know they are eating oversugared crap. It's labeled "healthy" and everyone they know also eats it.
Anything in moderation is safe, and anything in extreme excess is deadly. Even water becomes deadly if you drink a gallon in an hour. As long as you're not stuffing spoons of sugar in you mouth, it is safe. Also, you need carbohydrates (sugar) to survive. So, if you eat wisely, sugar won't harm anyone.
I grew up in Puerto Rico, which was once a hotbed of sugarcane production. This video makes it all seem so easy, but then you see the old-timey photos of peoples grandparents chopping down miles of sugarcane for scrip... Not an indictment against anyone who eats sugar, btw. Its history.
Sugar is a wonderful modern scientific invention, it is the first chemical to be industrially extracted and purified. The english word "factory" was first used to describe the sugar plantations of Jamaica. A product of human ingenuity, It is also the first manufactured export product to follow Adam Smith's economic model, and the theory of mercantilism. Though, no fault to sugar, the history of sugar is also full of terrible and horrible stories, institutional slavery and yellow fever to name a few. The culture and history of sugar is really a microcosm of the modern world, of our current global economy, geo-political system, and even epidemics and global health. That's why I love sugar, and the history of sugar, but at the same time, I am horrified by it. It is the dilemma of our contemporary condition: the things of our making simultaneously and un-contradictorily contain our love and hate, liberate and enslave us. Read all about it y'all.
I’m sending my sister sugar videos cuz she couldn’t tell the difference between flour and sugar and didn’t know what brown sugar, that’s what she said bro 💀 fortnite kids 😭
And my dumb brain thought real sugar crystals lies inside the cane, like it’s hollow then the sugar is inside, just talking it out then processing it or something lol
No where they are using bones... actually some sort of lime is used in processing of sugar.... every where. In ancient times they used to consume the bones to convert in lime....but now they are using more advanced technologies...
wrong -- the cane is not renewed...the crop is burnt - a major source of air pollution around the world with all kinds of environmental and human harm. Nat.Geo has a good video on this process. It's well documented if you take the time to search it out. Thanks.
The actual sugar marking process wasn’t that sweet tbh. “Sugar was made with blood” and slaves had to endure hell for centuries to provide Europe with sugar. I don’t think the sugar industry would be the same today without slavery, especially in Latin America.
Washing of sugar cane
Cutting into shreds
Flattened with rollers
Separator to remove fibres, collect only juice
Juice goes to evaporator to boil off excess water leaving syrup
Add sugar crystals into syrup to create more sugar crystals
Centrifuge to remove even more liquid
Goes to granulator where it is purified, decolourised, recrystallised
Goes through several screens/filters to remove impurities and to ensure all crystals are the same size
Nice summary!

So if you use crystals of sugar to make more sugar crystals...where did the first ones come from?

it is easy to make, when supersaturation ratio is 1.3 or 1.5 sugar crystals begin to form themselves.

Sugar is a very important thing that you will never forget about your health
I always enjoy watching the certain steps in sugar production. Cane to sugar. The only byproduct is molasses.
if you need sugar crystals to make sugar crystals... how did the first sugar crystals get made
Smedley Butler I really need these answers.
Smedley Butler Basic chemistry. Crystals will form on their own, but adding existing crystals will jumpstart the process making it much more efficient.
Needsmoreglitter no the guy clearly told us that you need crystals to make crystals.... its like chickens and egss n sheet.
Dekster Well someone is lying... that much is for sure

Ha ha ha ha, this is a good sugar coated version of what happens...

It does go through this process, but they left out the bleaching part.

They kind of glossed right over how it is decolorized, huh? Haha
Outta hand that’s what i want to know
Well....they named themselves "Imperial" sugar..
thank you so much you saved my life from a science assesment

Thanks for the video/ad . i really enjoyed

"...Turning pure cane into pure love."
Pure corporate cringe.
If crystallisation process is started by initial sugar crystals then how did it all started at the beginning.
You dont NEED sugar, any solid object will do to start the crystallization. But i personally prefer not to eat lead pellets in sugar
"Decolorized" and "No bleaching reqd" used together?! What a joke..
A little late but, you do know that there are ways to "decolorize" something without using bleach, right?
They most likely use bones or some other source of carbon.
Helped with homework, thanks :)
Great to hear!
OH! This is so healthy! Thank you Imperial Sugar.

roughly how long do these refining processes take?
Once the cane hits the refinery, how long does it take until it's package?
What about coke?
Lol. “From our family to yours”. Very original
It's better for you than high fructose corn syrup
Very good 👍
what about the added powdered Lime??? Not the fruit. Via Discovery UK How it's made. Or did they not explain it correctly?
If you need to add sugar crystals to the syrup to create more sugar crystals... where do the original sugar crystals come from?
I learnt that sugar retains moisture and keeps freshness
Good
Similar to how cocaine is extracted
What if sugar IS... Nevermind, too much ILLUMINATI on the ILLUMINATI METER!
They put acid and kerosene in cocaine
Retaining moisture retains hydration in are body
