Phoenix to hire private security guards for city public parks

- Some Phoenix parks have come under scrutiny for large numbers of police calls, people using drugs out in the open, and large numbers of homeless gathering there.
Cost??? Are they going to be trained in social services, drug addiction, custodial duties, self protection, etc? If police are being targeted -- what will happen to security guards?
We already have them in Tempe. It doesn't do much to change anything to be honest. They haven't stopped anyone from coming to the park and doing drugs or sleeping at the park in my neighborhood but they sure as hell kick everyone out of the skatepark when the park closes. I'd honestly rather not be bothered by Security at the park in my own neighborhood. Especially when it hasn't solved the homeless/drug problem that they apparently hired them for....
That is the security that doesn't do their jobs i work Security our apartment is supposed to have security from 8pm to 6 am they have only been here once In a year just to drive through the parking lot so I work Security for our apartment on my days off from my other security job
Hilarious... rent-a-cops. Bet this ends badly.
Unarmed security to patrol the parks at night? Sounds to me like a suicide squad. As a former armed and unarmed security guard, with many years of experience in both facets of security, I strongly recommend fellow security personnel to avoid this recipe for disaster at all costs.
You still have mace and tazor just no gun
I work Security we need this at the park on Glendale Ave and 41st ave
Isn't this the same thing the police and park rangers are supposed to be doing??? Enforcing the laws and rules of the parks should be done by the police and not a unarmed security guard that has no authority at all except to call the cops for help
They can't hire police officers but they can hire random security guards to patrol? Okay. Weird flex.
That's what park rangers are for and contract security is actually more expensive. It is a waste of tax payer money. If they were smart they would assign a police squad solely to parks at night and hire more rangers and give them training to cite people and go e them the tools to offer services to the homeless. It's a tough job to make someone go out at night and deal with these dangerous people without a gun.
Well. It's one way to do something.
Yeah. The stupid way.
A stable place to live would be more effective.
Why? Police are supposed to do that.

Just pretend these houseless folks are tailgating for an event; let them be, but hire a clean up crew.
Better off building shelter for bums.
They can do nothing.
