I have been to San Cristóbal twice and absolutely love it! It is definitely at the top of my list. I do speak Spanish so I think I could manage there. I also love the countryside around the city for recreation. The indigenous influence is very important to me-I love the culture and arts. Just have to get my husband to visit!
Marina. Must say again that your videos are so very good. It puts Mexico in a much higher light. They are realistic an give exellent info for all of us. I have been in Mexico for some time and even I get alot from your videos . I hope all will be better informed from them . Thank you again!
Love, love Sancris…I’ve been there 6-7 times and have felt that I could easily live there- the challenge is that I want to swim every day. Thanks Mariana, I totally agree with your sentiments here!💖 The wildness and indigenous energy really elevates Chiapas…such an amazing place!
Thanks so much for this wonderfully produced video. This is definitely a place we need to check out as the Lake Chapala area has turned out to be a bit warmer than what we'd ultimately like to find. Plus, the bohemian culture seems right up our alley. We are excited to plan a trip in the future.
The indigenous languages are not “dialects” but rather distinct languages. The common differentiation in Mexico between indigenous “dialects” and European “languages” is a pretty deeply ingrained way that the indigenous is devalued and the European is placed in a superior location. If anything, Mexican Spanish is a dialect in the larger Spanish language world.
I like what you have posted but please soon list Beach towns that are safe and has public transportation and houses or apartments that you can live and retire in for under 12 00 a month please.
Love the vid as usual. But was wondering if San Cris is an area that is being affected by the water shortages that are hitting large parts of Mexico now?
I'm preparing to visit San Cristobal de las Casas in mid-January 2024. I may stay long term. I'd go sooner but I'm still waiting for my passport. Also, I figured I'd wait until the holidays are over. Very helpful video, thanks! I've subscribed as I'm sure I'll find plenty of information here. If/when I decide to seek residency in Mexico, I'll turn to you guys for assistance.
Thank You. Real Life doesn’t happen in Resorts, so researching Resort Towns is of no practical use to those seeking a community to be part of and to call Home.
Hi Mariana, I hope you are doing well! I am searching for a town/city that has a moderate cool climate and or a beach town where the cost of living and real estate are still affordable. Other than San Cristobal and the obvious expat destinations, do you have any other suggestions? What are your thoughts on Cuernavaca? Thanks! David
I love Cuernavaca Check out this overview Is Living in Cuernavaca, Mexico Right For You? (rental examples included!) ua-cam.com/video/EnZn5EtzRjs/v-deo.html
I spent about a month in barrio Mexicanos. I loved the food, markets, and interesting cultural activities. However it was the noisiest Mexicanos city I have stayed in. The local spiritual practices are constantly being celebrated with parades and coñetes ( spelling) at 5 am or in the night. I was also pretty cold at night! I arrived there from Guatemala, a long and arduous journey overland. :)
should I move with my girlfriend to her home town san Cristóbal? it looks beautiful and very touristy but not somewhere where u would want to live unless you have an outside job or a good job
we arent sure where to move to and going and looking around isnt feasible. Need a small place that accepts our 2 doxies. 2 bathrooms would be best but only need one bedroom. A small yard for the furbabies would be nice
You should work with a house hunter then. If you’d like my recommendations check out my complete Mexico Relocation Guide mexicorelocationguide.com/guide/
There certainly is poverty in Chiapas. No doubt about that. Having said that San Cris is still an amazing place in my opinion and you won't know how special it truly is until you visit.
¡Me encanta San Cris! Sin duda es una de mis ciudades favoritas del mundo :) Definitely among the top 2 or 3 towns in which I'd like to spend more than the few weeks I have. Best coffee in town: Café la Selva! My favorite hostel with super low prices and a rooftop terrace with views of the city hosted by really friendly and warm Adolfo: "Fuego Nuevo", located at Periodista Isauro Rosete 18A, Barrio la Merced. Muchas gracias Marina por un video maravilloso!
I would like your input about where would be a good city to live if you would like to have a little garden/ farm, maybe keep chickens. Close to the beach because we love to fish, within 1 hr. Friendly and safe. Close to an international airport. Thank you!
You left out the water quality. I read from other sources that the tap water was horribly contaminated and it actually killed someone while making others horribly sick. 😢 unless that's just all of Mexico as a whole.
water contamination is prevalent throughout Mexico because water isn’t chlorinated as it is in other countries- that’s why people buy jugs of potable water for drinking and cooking
Please take note of our experience before visiting Chiapas. 17 April 2024 Car stopped wrecked physically abused Robbed Held hostage for 6 hours. They even tore up photos of our children and grandchildren I am 60 my wife 70. These where Mexican people not cartel Please consider our experience before you risk a visit to Chiapas. I WOULD LIKE to hear a Mexican comment on our experience publicly. On this site.
San Cristobal de Las Casas is. However, there is some turmoil in the state of Chiapas outside of San Cris currently. So I would say as long as you stay in San Cris, Chiapa de Corzo, or Tuxtla you'll be fine

Thanks for sharing!!
nahhh you didnt feel the real indenouse fee....and insecurity that they become thief :)
My Mexican husband and I are relocating permanently to this city next year 🎉 it was my idea and I'm super excited 😄
I agree with not paying more than what the locals pay. Paying more will only make the prices go up snd it is rhe locals that will suffer.

That’s awesome. Then I think you’ll like San Cris
A very nice overview of San Cris, what a pretty area!
Isn’t it? It’s one of my favorites! Thanks for watching

I have been to San Cristóbal once but I feel I need to explore more
that was a great great vidio.good job.thank you.
Thdnk you. Im very impressed. Love the idea of a Bohemian vibe. Reminds me, somewhat, of Zacatlån, Puebla where I once lived
It’s very bohemian here
Beautiful. Thank you for the great video.
Our pleasure!
Muy bueno el video y la información. Gracias Mariana.
Gracias Daniel
Love the vid as usual. But was wondering if San Cris is an area that is being affected by the water shortages that are hitting large parts of Mexico now?
Not San Cristóbal no. They get a lot of rainfall each year
Coca Cola is seriously impacting the aquifer.Bottled water is common

should I move with my girlfriend to her home town san Cristóbal? it looks beautiful and very touristy but not somewhere where u would want to live unless you have an outside job or a good job
Looks like a wonderful place! Why are there bars on the windows and doors?
A lot of houses have that for security

Thanks for watching ☺️
Does the Mexican relocation guide include a list of house or rental hunters?
Hi Henry! Yes we do!
Mariana
San Cris looks amazing in your video. Other people’s vids highlight poverty and corruption. This looks to be an amazing place but I have concerns.
There certainly is poverty in Chiapas. No doubt about that. Having said that San Cris is still an amazing place in my opinion and you won't know how special it truly is until you visit.
Me encanta!
Gracias
This is in Chiapas state correct? Well aware on it's notorious past...cerca 1990s. Hope things are better there now.
Not all of Chiapas is 100% safe but San Cristóbal de las Casas is
Is the climate in SanCris a better climate than Puebla, Mexico. Is it similar or a cooler climate?
Check out weatherspark.com to compare weathers between cities 😉

Totally agree!
Are there mail boxes to rent?
Lets hope the drug activity and Cartel influences are nipped in the bud.The town is magical.
I speak a few Spanish words but will never be able to be fluent so a area with x pats please.
That's the best way to learn and be fluent- is to move somewhere where you are forced to learn more and more each day :)
Do you know what’s best to do for day of the dead in this area? Thanks
Nov 1st-2nd every year

Perhaps the sierra in Chiapas or Oaxaca- there are a lot of small towns in the hills where you could buy land.
@@MexicoRelocationGuide thank you!

If I am owner of department to rent in SC, is possible to announce in your web page?
Sorry no

Where was this?
Where would you suggest a person fly into to visit San Christobal?
Hi! I mention it in this video :)
Oops sorry, ill watch again. Thx.@@MexicoRelocationGuide
is it safe?

Much prefer Antigua, GT to SanCris. Prefer Oaxaca to SanCris.
Why
@@fend2825 For one, both are prettier than SanCris.
Mmmm is subjective
What's the weather like there?
I mention it in the first few mins of the video 😉😉
Why does the town keep the graffiti on the walls? Such a turn off!
I hear ya. It’s not pretty. But trust me, San Cris as a whole is beautiful
