This is the most dramatic war story ever of beating a 14 year old boy in a board game.
that 14 yro can tear most of the chess player base to pieces😳 hes more motivated to be a gm than levy it seems
lmao
disrepect to the pawn lol
@@shevankaseneviratne1724 well yeah, because if you ask Levy if he is still trying to reach GM, he'll answer no.
Which happened in the chess for ants video on Hikaru's channel. Levy was asked if he was still trying for GM or retired, and Levy said he retired.
The kid on the other hand is a rising chess prodigy who became IM at 14, the chances that he is done growing in the game are very small. He didn't retire, he has barely begun.
Cracked me up when you put it like that

not only was this one of the most entertaining and best games levy has shown, it's also probably the biggest emotional rollercoaster out of all of them. 2 games in this tournament where levy has played Ng5!?, the rozman gambit, and this one almost got jinxed by it
We should legitimise the rozman gambit
It's brilliantly stupid

Also me: >nervously looking at the timer “… he wins another round, right?
Haha great comment. Because he kinda story tells the games and doesn't give too much away.
Another one for the pile: These recaps are some of the best chess content available. To me it is much better than an overview of what lines could be played, or who played what and why it's good.
The fact that you played those games so recently allows you to accurately convey the mindset you were in, the elements you considered, what you missed and didn't miss mentally. How far along a certain position you considered.
It's a much more educational way of reviewing a game, because it's much more real!
You're doing great!
I absolutly second that
Amen. That is educational and riveting content at its best!
I think making the recaps might be really good for his game as well. Teaching and demonstrating knowledge I think uses very different parts of the brain to self study. It's like reading a speech versus reciting a speech. You internalize the same information differently.
Agreed
Well said!😊
This game is legitimately a master piece. I honestly have the feeling that if Levy stops paying attentions to bad thoughts like: “I am going to loose this! I am nervous” and so on, and instead chooses the right thoughts to win, he will just sky rocket as a player. There is a reason why Hikaru said that Levy could be GM.
True true
Exactly! In the games he lost, he noted everytime that it was more of a psychological and stamina problem than a chess one. Levy's still relatively young and at the peak of his mental prowess. If he wants and tries, he could definitely nail it over the next 5-6 years
@@pbj4184 Yeah especially if he gets over the mental factor of chess like, "I cant win this", or "There is no way I will beat this gm in this position". All Levy has to do is "Shut up and play the best move 😉".
"But I think he forgot that I don't like my pieces very much" - I love you
The quote of the video. I was dying when he said that.
gotham a week ago : I think i need to rest a bit.
also gotham: I think gonna play two tournement games a day and make a recap for each of them.
Levy has actually hit a gold mine here. I have not seen any content like this on youtube anywhere ,
where a pro player goes through his thought process of the games he has played in a tournament.
It's so incredibly interesting, possibly even more than if a super GM were to do it even though I'd love to see that as well. I can follow the thought process well while being very impressed. Also the internal mental battle is easily relatable.
Go watch hanging pawns who also has a series of like 160 games on his channel. He also has a lot of opening theory videos and about endgames and middlegames. Possibly the best chess channel on youtube and criminally underrated

I threw a winning game just minutes after this video was uploaded against a 1900 rated player (+400 points than me). And I feel it 😭.
@@pratyaydey2769 I play in a chess club w ~10 1700-2000 rated players, I throw completely winning positions (even +10) up on time all the time, I’ve tilted down to 1100 from 1300 twice after throwing really bad lol
Yeah this is the worse, there's one time I sacrificed my two rooks for a nice smothered mate, I found this pattern immediately because I solved a puzzle that is similar to the position in the game,I'm about to execute it but I mislip a move with my queen and I blundered it,it was 3min game btw

Other than Ng5 I feel like it is safe to say that this is your immortal game: played basically all top engine moves and two exchange sacs
i think Ng5 makes it even more dramatic
I mean I think it was you yourself that said it usually isn’t the first mistake you make in a game, but the second and third you make after that
damn that was a while ago
"In chess, it usually isn't the first mistake that kills you. It's the second and third mistake following that." - Levy said something like this
You’re right.
I can see Hikaru watching this game be like: "Levy what are you doooooin', Levy, Levy, Levyyyyyy"
Hikaru will have to admit that the rest of the game was played perfectly. Literally, in 10+ positions if he didn’t play the only move here would have been lost or drawing. Hikaru clild eternally shame Ng5 though. Imagine if it worked, truly would be Levy’s greatest game ever.
What Levy hadnt realized is that even though he hasn’t been playing over the board for a while. He has been consuming knowledge constantly by providing us nearly 2 studies a day for the longest time
Bringing high level chess to low rated players in an easily understood, articulate way.
These Semislav structures were very well explained in Sam Shanland's course on the Semislav. He discusses how to know where to place the rooks.
He also keeps repeating how it is important NOT to maroon your bishop on a3 with c5 in any semislav structure. This was a great example of his point!
Goddammit a couple of months ago I didn't even know how chess pieces moved and now I'm bitting my nails in anguish to know if Levy won. Great job man!
For those curious, after 5 rounds, our boy Levi is in 6th out of 166 players. Lets freaking go!!
How many rounds are there
@@austi16 9 rounds, 2 rounds every day except for the first day, in which they only play 1 round
He will actually be ranked 16th now factoring in all 5 games so far (some games not on broadcast boards do not count towards some website's rankings, for official ranking go to www.vegaschessfestival.com/live/results/, as they have not updated wins yet, I manually sorted tournament wins, tiebreaker FIDE ratings)
Another way to put it is he is tied for 2nd (or 4th depending on how you count tiebreakers) on number of wins (4.0/5.0), the highest number of wins so far is (4.5/5.0)

This is way better than a normal analysis because there's a narrative. You take us on the journey you went through in your mind! Far more interesting than just going over moves and variations. Probably less educational than a traditional analysis, but I think this is the kind of content that can get people excited to play chess.
