I've seen Dalton in many roles. However, his talent as an actor has never been more thoroughly displayed. I quite forgot that Father Bill was a character in a movie. Bravo! 👏👏👏

Dalton plays a good priest, although has anyone else noticed the priests collar is wrong? Catholic priests don't wear the same collar as protestant clergy.

It’s ironic that Christopher Plummer played an Archbishop in this movie, and then also played the same role in The Thorn Birds. Great in both! The acting in this movie was really well done. Timothy Dalton was so convincing as a priest. I really recommend this movie. 🦋
I recommend this movie, kept me interested all the way.
I believe he also plays an Archbishop in Dragnet from the 80's. That's a comedy though.

This made release 2000. It is now 2024 and I rarely go to the cinema to watch movies because it just isn't worth my time. This is the quality of movie Hollywood needs to start making again.

This is the story based on the boy who inspired the exorcist movie. The real child was a little boy who was possessed. He grew up to be a Catholic and ended up working as a Scientist. His parents first tried a Pentecostal Clergy, but ended up with a Catholic priest.

I like more than the Exorcist. Timothy and the rest of the cast, especially the boy, were excellent.
The exorcist was "campy" or over-done in quite a few ways. That took away from it, in my opinion.
That kept me on the edge of my seat,The little boy was a great actor l really loved the movie l just couldn’t believe what I was watching great actors

The actors are incredible great cast. The kid Robbie was also a great actor. I loved the red color of his hair. Not a ginger copper color. It was a very rich red.
The PTSD veterans go through is beyond horrific! It's heartbreaking and so cruel. There's veterans that can't even watch or talk about anything to do with war . It's too painful even decades later.
My father served on Iwo Jima, and he was like that. It wasn't until the final year of his life that he opened up and spoke of some of his experiences. I understood then why he didn't speak about it when we kids asked what he did in the war. His response to our question was "I hid in foxholes." It turns out that he did a lot more than that. A war buddy wrote his memoirs of that time, and he described how my father saved his life by leaving a foxhole and carrying his fellow soldier to safety.

A decent movie indeed. I liked the acting of all the cast. Dalton's Penny Dreadful performance propelled me to watch this one. And he did not disappoint me at all. Worth viewing.
This film seems to be very much closer to the real case than The Exorcist, which was based on William Peter Blatty's book, in which he made the boy a girl and made a very different story of it.
The boy was called Ronnie rather than Robbie....Ronald Hunkeler, and he did lead a normal life after these events, and even worked for NASA, where he worried that he'd be 'outed' as the boy whose story inspired The Exorcist.
Thank you. I know a lot of details about the actual case, but I was never sure of the boy's real name. I grew up in Mt. Rainier, MD, where the boy and his parents originally lived when the paranormal events began. I married a man who lived on the same street, just one house away from the Hunkeler house. My husband's uncle was a close friend of Father Hughes. Hughes performed the first exorcism in Georgetown Hospital, but had to discontinue the rites when he was seriously injured.The boy sliced Father Hughes' arm along the entire length. It required more than a hundred stitches to close the wound. My husband's uncle was sworn to secrecy about revealing the boy's name, but he told my husband some information that wasn't known to the general public.

A fantastic film. Beats all expensively made Hollywood so called blockbusters. Acting was great and especially from the child. For the non believers I pray because they know not of the terror and evil they expose themselves to. May God be with us all and deliver us from evil in this world and the next. 🙏🕯️

When the priest says he needs to be removed from his parents house, but "there is plenty of room at mine"" - very frightening, most so in movie...
then the priest is found lying over the body of the boy with his shirt off. dang.

Read the book if you want the actual facts of the case. It was very well researched by the author. The movie deviates a LOT from the book, for the sake of fitting it into a two hour movie, I imagine.

Timothy Dalton, Christopher Plummer always can play those patriarchal parts very well. Jonathan Male that played Robbie was very convincing. All the actors were good. So this this was the movie actually based on a true story about the boy that was possessed.
The book was well researched and the author stuck strictly to the facts of the case. This movie deviated widely from the book. If you want the actual facts, you need to read the book.

The ouija board is not nonsense. It is extremely dangerous. The ignorant find out the hard way. Or the foolish who want to show off. Open that door and b ready to pay a heavy price for ur mistake dearly. Things can happen well beyond ur control. Don't call the cops,they cannot help u.
My cousin used the ouija board.. long story short we asked who is there and it replied my mother in law who died about a few months before.. so we asked if it's you tell us something we only know.. it spelled out ring and I forgive.. I had no idea what that meant.. but my wife admitted to my surprise she had pawned her mothers wedding 💍 ring.. my cousin was the only person operating the board.. I was freeked out so we packed up the board.. and left my cousin with her board and left

the ouija board is only about 100 years old. i've had one since i was ten. it's just a game. not spooky at all.
Actually you are quite right ...the movie the exorcist was based on a true story except it was a boy that got possessed...and was found out the boys aunt was into some bad mojo stuff ...so that was the entry point .for possession..plus I read Father Malachi Martin's book ...windswept house ...that was based by true stories of exorcism ....was a difficult read ...not for everyone ...and don't read it at night ..Father. Malachi..was a Vatican exorcist...under 3 popes ...and one of the things Satan likes ..is to convince people that he doesn't exist ...

I watched this film from beginning to end and wasn't terrified at all. I did however see The Exorcist when it first came out and couldn't sleep for a long time without leaving the light on. I was much younger then, old enough to see the movie though, probably more impressionable.

Why is the church always reluctant to acknowledge demonic possession and the power of G0D? Well at least in many, if not all delivarance movies. Is this how it is. in reality? The vatican would rather indulge itself in politics and diplomatic "frufrus", instead of actually doing the work assigned by G0D?
The main reason the church rarely authourises exorcisms is simply due to the fact that most if not all so called demonic possessions are due to mental illness. 99.9% of these poor people need medical attention, not a priest.

It was hilarious... nothing scary as most so-called "horror" shows are. Good actors! The boy did very well and we were entertained. Enjoy it at night because it was a funny show.

So I have watched so many of these movies and they get the"Hail Mary" and the "Lord's prayer" wrong all the time!! Ugh! It annoys me! They need to look at punctuation.. a comma changes the entire meaning of the sentence.... duh! Pray for us, sinners, now and at.... Etc... I'll stop at that.. I could go on... Was a decent movie though. Great acting!!

Because they don’t want to appear backward when people believed in evil spirits. People might think they are crackpots believing in the supernatural. Really stupid reasoning because Jesus was supernatural. The whole gospel is supernatural. So when they hide the supernatural they do a disservice to God. God is not “modern” nor is the devil. They are more than ancient and definitely supernatural. Jesus’s birth, life, death and resurrection was miraculous. The RCC should not deny that the supernatural exists to gain favouritism if it doesn’t want to contradict itself.
