      Yesterday I installed one here in the UK, shipped from Amazon USA in just two days. After testing more than 6 doorbells I can assure that this is by far the best doorbell in the market right now. Notications are instant, I really don't get the bad reviews, probably due to some user errors based on WiFi channel used, etc.

    • @thecatman2000
      @thecatman2000 2 роки тому +1

      worth noting that not only is it still a USA order, but the install shown in this video won't work for the vast majority of UK doorbells (which are generally either 8v or 240v). I'm struggling with this at the moment! So you have to buy a new PSU, and a new chime (if you want a hard wired one to replace your existing one). Most PSUs available online are 24v, but it's impossible to find a 24v chime. Turning into an absolute nightmare!

    Was nervous about getting another Amcrest doorbell. But, after getting this one. Absolutely love it with only two issues at the current time. It doesn’t ring the mechanical doorbell It could just be the chime unit. Using Alexa to announce the ringing of the doorbell sounds better than the standard bell anyway. Issue and not so much of a issue having to use Amcrest2MQTT to get the binarys from it rather than HA just discovering it using the Amcrest integration.

    Off topic, and just a friendly suggestion - perhaps get your tyres replaced. Those cracks at the base of the tread (typically caused by age rather than wear) can lead to water ingress and carcass failure. Even though there's plenty of tread left, the tyre can fail out of the blue, typically in a dramatic fashion on the motorway. Seen too many failures caused by things like that, and I'd quite like to see more content from you 😁

    I am CONTEMPLATING this camera to replace my Hikvision DS-HD1. I have both positive and negative thoughts about my current DS-HD1. One of the positives I've had of my current camera is that it gives an audible beep to let people know that the motion detector has detected motion. Yes, this feature CAN be annoying to some but it has also deterred people I don't think wanted to be seen. I've seen people come up to the front door, the camera beeps and they quickly turn around and take off. My doorbell camera isn't the ONLY camera on the front of the house and all go to my NVR. It is interesting when I see this type of activity... these people didn't see the other cameras but the sound spooked them. The resolution is pretty decent but it has a very fisheye look; distortion to the periphery. On the negatives of my current camera, the setup interface is terrible. It is the only camera that I have that does not allow me to interact with the camera from a web interface. The EZVIZ smartphone interface isn't the greatest but it works. The last negative is partially related to my house. My front door faces due east. During some times of the year, in the morning, as the sun rises above the level of the house across the street from me, the sun causes havoc with the motion sensor. I have a flag that is seen just at the top edge of the image and when the wind blows, it causes intermittent motion alerts for about an hour. For recording purposes, I never use the built-in video memory, I rely on my NVR, which has its own motion-sensing capabilities and I am able to block the flag from triggering motion sense. My hope with that Amcrest, with its wider dynamic range, will prevent some of the sun/flag-triggered motion alerts.

    I have the Lorex version of this camera. The image quality is really good, and like you said the HDR is outstanding. The problem I'm having is that the camera only works on my home wifi when using the app. If I'm on phone data, (not home wifi), I can not get a picture using the Lorex app, but here's the rub, I also have the camera feeding my Hikvision NVR via RTSP. If I use the Hik app I have no trouble getting a picture when using phone data. It makes absolutely no sense to me and renders the camera pretty useless as a doorbell camera since I can't access it while I'm away from home.
    As a side note, the Amcrest app has horrible reviews in the Play Store. It is almost exactly the same as the Lorex app but the Amcrest app does have a few more features. The Lorex app does remember the last viewed camera resolution so maybe Amcrest will update the app.

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  3 роки тому

      That is a strange one, unfortunately I can't help you there as the Amcrest one works fine on mobile or WiFi. Hope you get it sorted!

      @Pro1er 3 роки тому

      @@EverythingSmartHome I've got the Amcrest coming tomorrow, if it works I'll let you know but I honestly think the app is causing the problem, and since the Amcrest app is nearly the same as the Lorex's, I doubt the Amcrest will work either.

    • @Pro1er
      @Pro1er 3 роки тому

      @@EverythingSmartHome OK, after one day of use I can say that so far the Amcrest app is working while using data, so it's the Lorex app that is broken. I think I do like the Lorex app better though. I really like that it has a snooze function that shuts off notifications for 30, 60 or 120 minutes. Also, I just can't believe that you can not take a snapshot while playing back a video on the Amcrest app! I looked at your phone just to make sure it wasn't my version and yours is the same way. Both the Amcrest and the Lorex apps are painfully slow. I have a 3MP doorbell camera that I paid $35US for and the app is light years faster. I probably would have just kept using that camera but it doesn't have HDR rendering the image useless much of the day. I'm hoping that some hacker figures out a way to flash the Amcrest firmware onto the Lorex camera so that I can actually use it because I don't think Lorex has any intention of fixing their app.
      As a side note, if you download the Amcrest desktop app to your PC you can view the camera and also make several changes to the doorbell camera to better suit your needs including bumping the FPS to 30! That alone makes it a better choice than the Lorex.

    • @Pro1er
      @Pro1er 2 роки тому

      @@techuser1619 Yes, I really like the camera. The problem I was having with not getting an image when on cell data was a MetroPCS problem which has since been resolved by them. The picture is really good for a doorbell camera, (I've had several different doorbell cameras). I also have the Amcrest version of this camera but I like the Lorex phone app. better. The one advantage of the Amcrest is that you can use their PC client to make a few adjustments to the camera. I switched mine from the default 15 FPS to 25 FPS and I locked the IP address. I don't know of a way to do that with the Lorex. I also like that the Lorex is colored white whereas the Amcrest is black. Both of my cameras get hit by the sun and they run pretty hot to begin with. Just make sure that the FOV is right for you. The camera will not see something left next to the bottom of the door. Except for that, the FOV is absolutely perfect for my needs...almost as if I designed it to be that way.

    But, my current transformer is an Elvox 832/030. If I see correctly it is only 15V ac.. so it doesn't have enough juice for this doorbel. Can you please let me know the brand/model you have? I see its 8-16V ac. (I'm also on the EU). Thanks!!

    What is the transmission path of the audio and video? Can the app, including two-way audio work fully locally (i.e. if you block the camera from accessing the internet)? I'd consider this camera if it doesn't need to use an external broker to connect the phone to the device.

    Any chance you could provide a little more detail on how to attach the chime kit? My doorbell/transformer has 4 visible wires two from the 240v and another two to the doorbell outside. So where does the chime kit fit? I assume there must be a hidden bit between the actual bell and the transformer?

    I'm curious how this stacks against the Best Hello. But if I'm honest, I may switch regardless. Nest Hello has great loud and clear sound but the recording is locked behind a paywall with no NVR support, wtf.
    The Amcrest giving me the power to local record means a LOT to me since I don't feel I should be forced into a subscription to do basic security camera things such as recording.
    Also, how does it handle over the air transmissions? You showed us notifications while at home (likely on the same network that your camera was on) but how does it perform if you're out and about?
    And does the button press show up like a call or at very least take urgent top priority in your notifications? (Something Nest doesn't do, which is total rubbish. Heck, even ADT's system prioritizes button presses as a call so you can get to it right away)
    Looking forward to your response. Great review nonetheless. I don't think it was nitpicky at all but instead great points that hopefully Amcrest will take into consideration with future iterations.

    *Do NOT buy this doorbell*
    I've had two units Mid-Late 2022, initial and a replacement, both have a common design fault/flaw where the IR LED's are able to reflect off the chassis into the camera lens causing a flair and obscuring nighttime video. There are plenty of people on Amazon reporting this issue.
    Amcrest support were less than helpful asking for an additional $50USD for each unit to ship me a new one in addition to paying return shipping even though their warranty policy states that they will cover shipping if faulty within 30 days of purchase. I had to fight them all the way to get them to follow their own warranty policy. The whole process took months.
    I wish I had read the reviews before I bought it. Amcrest support is widely reported to be terrible, and I can regrettably confirm this is the case.
    Buyer beware. Go with the new Reolink Doorbell. Its better in every way and vendor support is phenomenal.
