The Josh era was underated & incredible. The versus of Raindance Maggie had a freaky styley type edge to it. The Dark necessities single had that edge as well. With that being said, it was still a dream come true for the mothers milk line up to reunite one more time. Both John & Josh have their own vibe & brought red hot so much in my opinion, as Hillel, Dave & jack did as well during their time w. The band.

Josh was at best a decent cover guitarist for the Chili Peppers. He played the older materials well (tho his Californication solos were subpar) and always happy to play rarely played songs. He wrote decent albums with no real RHCP masterpieces… and I suspect he didn’t even have a good experience recording the two albums with Rubin and Danger Mouse. The best Chili Peppers line up is the one we have right now. If I were Josh, I’d start a new band so the pro-Josh fans can start recovering from the trauma of being dumped.

I love Josh deeply, but I kind of understand what Flea is saying.

  • @GunsNArnolds

John was born to be in RHCP

  • @TooMuchDelay
    @TooMuchDelay 9 місяців тому +20

Okay, I'm happy John is back too. He was with the band when I first heard them, loved them and was all the songs that got me to love them were made with John. Yet, John needed space so he left and its a good thing . He seems so happy to be up there again and its good to seem him back. But Josh stepped up to help and though he did not write the amazing tracks I know the RHCP for, Did I Let You Know, Dance,Dance,Dance, Dark Necessities, Encore and Sick Love are stellar tracks and I feel insanely sad that I'll never get to hear them played again.
Josh was the real guy for taking ten years to be in a fully formed band that spoke John's language of playing. The moment John left and they took Josh on as their guitar player, he became a Red Hot Chili Pepper and therefore it became his song. What Flea said didn't just sound mean, it was mean. Maybe an unfortunate choice of words, but like slapping someone with an actual bat instead of a fake one kind of unfortunate.
I understand the emotional value to Californication, By The Way and all the other smash hits they made with John deepens the songs when they play it with him but they didn't look at what they had with Josh. I feel it would be nothing but gracious and respectful to Josh and the fans to play the songs they made. Dark Necessities has been played over 400 million times on Spotify and it feels weird to ignore the love for it. I'm not comparing numbers to success or love, but 400 million plays should mean something right?
John is great and I don't want anyone else but Josh was great too and I didn't need him to leave.

I thought "The Getaway" was a really interesting artistic step forward for RHCP. Josh was taking their sound into unknown territory. Definitely not taking the same drastic left turns as Radiohead but sorta in the same vein. That being said, the last 2 Frusciante albums were pretty so-so. They're taking steps backwards in hopes to catch the magic of the previous Frusciante eras. To me, it's closed chapter. It was a good story. Let it be. Think it's pretty evident that Frusciante isn't as passionate about playing guitar as he was in the past.

I overall think that the love and “rooting-for-the-underdog” appreciation that Josh has had in recent years since his firing is deserved but misplaced. Josh is an amazing musician, still younger than them, who has much more to give as a solo artist and freelancer than being bound to play mostly John-era songs live with the RHCP for the rest of their career (their John albums were the bulk of their set lists during Josh’s tenure). While I’m sure it was more comfortable financially to be in the most popular rock band of the 90’s and 2000’s (unless one is to count Maroon 5 and Coldplay as rock) the “achievement” is far more Johns than it is Josh’s (not that either are the kind of artist who cares about that). Pluralone’s albums have been better than the material he released with RHCP and better than UL and TROTDC.
Why not accept that Josh’s best solo music is still ahead of him while Flea, Chad and Anthony’s is likely not? Why not allow them to reunite with John in peace? Subsequent tours with Josh wouldn’ve likely only included a couple songs from I’m With You and The Getaway anyway as most people are there to hear the John songs. We’re not really missing out on as much as it’s being made out to be.

I’m all for being back with your friends and such but man the fact they just disregard those 10 years with Josh. John should be fucking grateful for Josh carrying his band when he wanted his own time.
He made the choice to leave and the band carried on and made some really cool shit with Josh. Then he comes back and is like yeah anything that was done when I wasn’t here doesn’t matter anymore.
They took a direction which was really interesting and different with Josh it’s such a shame man.
I love the peppers but they really did fuck Josh over.

Real guy?? What about Hillel? John is great but massively overrated by fans. It’s that tortured musician image that sells and even the members have bought it. IWY and Getaway were much progressive and better than the new albums. I wouldn’t comment but the whole band seem to brush away the Josh era like it never existed and have celebrated John’s return as if Josh era was some kind of nightmare.

  • @cadmarins

People don't know about John's solo career. It's incredibly rich and denser, more sentimental, richer than the band. Real descriptions of his recovery period. Eventually he even made electronic music. It's great for John to return, but never fire Josh, he was so incredible. I didn't like it one bit. Foo Fighters keeps 3 guitars out of pure gratitude. Josh deserved much, MUCH more!

Josh Klinghoffer was great but he just wasn't John Frusciante. It has the same resemblence for Metallica fans to when Jason Newsted replaced Cliff Burton. He was great, probably the driving force in the band in those years but he just stepped in to a guys shoes who never could be filled.

Josh undeniably helped keep the dream alive, and created some mighty Chili's classics, such as 'Monarchy of Roses', 'Dark Necessities', 'Look Around', 'Factory of Faith', etc.
But.. The awesome foursome, shine for me at the ultra level of world defining new uber groove, when John is the full right angle oft he perfect cosmic square.
The RHCP will always be my favourite band, as far as I know after 48 years of living.
I think a lot of popular artists suck... but I don't think the Chili's do.
Outstanding, upbeat, seriously exciting, rocktastic uber grooves, from God's of new wave thinking.
    Thank you gentlemen.

Josh is probably the most greatful to Hillel and felt as if a fan joined RHCP, and played for the fans. He teased and played wayyyy more Hillel era stuff than Frusciante ever did during his second stint. Behind the sun, American ghost dance, police helicopter. He even managed to play Nevermind live. He to played Aeroplane, and teased OHM stuff like My Friends. It sucks that now all that’s gone and what we are left with is a John worship cult.

Que b-a-s-u-ra que es flea. Esto demuestra lo que es como persona. Me suena demasiado falso, doble cara.
