This is very good information to evaluate where you are and where you want to be. I have had various businesses going back to the 1950s. (Started young). Sometimes things don't add up so we need to make adjustments or just move on to something else. Once I figured out ebay, I needed to make some adjustments to make the numbers work. Our profits are up with fewer listings by selling more higher priced items. My best advice is to find items that appeal to a large base of customers. Also get out of the mentality of buying only $1 items to sell for $10. (Do this for fun only). Get serious with $10-$20 items selling for $80-$100. A lot less work. I grew to this level slow and steady reinvesting my profits. It is easier than it looks. A vision of where you want your business to be is essential. Mike
Thank you so very much! Most entrepreneurs online withhold this part of business like it's a BIG secret. Which is why. 90% of businesses fail within 6 months. They teach a fraction of the importance of business practices.
Thank you, thank you! I'm researching, watching, learning, amazing inventory, etc. before I begin my actual biz. I feel motivated, empowered and more organized (sure need THAT) and will soon flip the switch to start selling! Thanks, again!
This is one of the best videos on this subject. Easy to understand and more importantly for me you explained it by proving your point in those examples of yours. And this was information is FREE!
Thank you so much, Suzanne. I have not done this for my business. I still feel like a beginner, however, your programs have helped me tremendously. I started seriously selling on eBay in March 2017. I will do this because even though I have a spreadsheet that will tell me my monthly profit I haven't been using it. I will now so that I can move forward. You are always so thorough, thanks much. Keep up the extraordinary standards that you have.
I was going to type a comment similar to this, but why type it when you wrote it already? So, what Robyn said is what I say :) Thank you very much Suzanne.
This is the best video on profit and sell through rates I've ever seen done. I'm an eBay seller since 2004 and I was watching this video and saying...yes,yes,yes!!I've gotten so frustrated in the last year watching videos that constantly talk about listing 100 items a day (hamster wheel like you said, LOL!) and keeping a high sell through rate. If you're selling an item for $7 with free shipping that regularly sells for $12 plus $3 shipping your gonna churn out a lot of sold items and you'll ship a lot of packages come Monday... but tell me your NET profit after expenses and fees before I get too impressed or excited. More is not necessarily more money in your pocket. Gotta know your numbers. Nobody has explained it better than you Suzanne!!
Thank you so much for doing this. We have been ebaying for 14 years but just here and there. Last year I decided I would really go for it and we did pretty good and I'm a tracker but did not know about all the ways that you shared with me today. Thank you very much you are making a difference in my life.
Great information! I was selling regularly 2 months before I realized the Seller Hub had alot, alot of stats on my store. Charts broken down per item I sold was the most important. I honestly didn't know that was there until I clicked and there was so much useful info. Now, I really use it alot. Thanks Suzanne for explaining this. I appreciate your kindness in sharing your knowledge.
I am so appreciative of your video and the information you have shared. I have subscribed and selected to receive notifications. I was absolutely bawling my eyes out yesterday because of some news we had received about a bill that is coming due at the end of next month that we aren't even close to being able to afford. Today is the first day I am getting serious about eBay. I have sold things as a little hobby, but things have changed and I have to get serious. Thank you again.
Yes, indeed this is the most practical approach~such a great service to lay it out for folks to see. For some, it simply comes natural to "do the math" as they go~thereby applying a formula to meet the goal. Others are more likely used to kind of winging it and hoping for the best. I think most understand the very basic "list more, sell more" concept, and what you do with this channel content is break it down into logical, manageable bites~while at the same time expanding horizons of individual sellers, within their own models. Pretty awesome stuff Suzanne=)
Thank you so much for this video. I think it's one of the best I've watched so far. I'm definitely going to watch this over and over and implement these strategies. I've just recently subscribed to your channel and have been binge watching. You teach very clear, simple, realistic and easy to understand. Thank you.
Thank you so much Suzanne for this very helpful, informative video! Easy to understand, not overwhelming, a good length, a resource to come back to. I opened an Etsy shop three months ago, planning to "get it up and running" as, in my early 60's, I moved from full-time, to now part-time in my career, and anticipating a retirement form of income in a totally different field that I enjoy, offers flexibility, is a fun challenge etc. I'll apply your formulas and advice to my summer plans and let you know how my shop grows. Blessings to you in your own business.
Love this Suzanne..bookmarked this for future reference. Working on ramping up my business and this really helps me as all of your videos do! Thanks so much!
I decided to use ebay profits to pay off our mortgage early. I have been sending in an extra $2K every month for 2-3 years. We have only 3 more payments to make. By the end of the year we will be totally debt free! After that i will save my Ebay profits to buy a “new” used car (mine is a great, but 20 year old, car!). Then it’s all for traveling to visit our kids who live in different countries. 😊
Thank you so much for this video. I'm just about to start selling on ebay. Hope to list my first items this WEEK! I have been watching your videos for the past couple of weeks. Thank you for sharing what you have learned on your ebay journey.
Finally a sane voice. Yet, you always are! I watch a lot of ebay seller You Tube videos. I love them. They are enthusiastic, informative and positive. I am very grateful and appreciative that they share their knowledge for FREE!! But there has always been this underlying nagging thought I have: I don't want to work at this 12 hours per day, six days a week! And you just gave me permission to sell at my own pace, comfortably without a lot of pressure. Thank you!
Thank you for the informative workshop! I am new to your channel. I’ve been around the reselling game for a few years now and I’ve never had my spreadsheet goals broken down like you advise. It makes a lot of sense and it’s much appreciated.
I'm finally realizing how to find my profit because I didn't know if I was making a profit or not. I need to change alot with my ebay business like keeping track of my inventory better and increase my sale per profit items. I really need this business to help pay my bills because I don't make enough with my first job. Thank you Suzanne for helping us all!
Suzanne, wonderful video! You have explained this so clearly...and even though it looks like it was 3 years ago, it's just as relevant today. My husband and I are just getting started after losing so many customers during covid for our digital marketing agency, we are going to rely on ourselves to get it done! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. BTW, we are diversifying with vintage as well as unique newer items...but if it doesn't make me say "Wow" when I see it, it doesn't make it to the shop!
Hi Jackee, thank you! I try to make as many videos as possible "evergreen" meaning they will be informative forever. I hear you on the WOW factor - it has to be interesting or we won't do it!
Hi Suzanne! Thank you so much for this incredibly informative video...I have been selling on eBay as a hobby since 2006. I knew I was making a profit on my items that I sold but I had NO IDEA how to bring my hobby to the next level. This video makes is so much easier to understand how to grow your hobby/business. The spreadsheet that you use in the video, it is included in the spreadsheet package that you have mentioned in the comment section. I only wish to have something similar to what you are using not a whole complete package. Thanks again!!
As a new subscriber to your you-tube videos, this was the third video of yours that I watched tonight, and I have to say yours are excellent and to the point. I can tell by watching your videos you come from a business background, and I am guessing you previously worked in a corporate environment as maybe a Business Analyst/Systems Analyst type of role based on your analytic approach to your videos. Whether or not my guess is right, I so appreciate your style of videos. They are very educational and extremely informative. As for me, I am relatively new into selling on eBay. My prior work experience has been working as a Systems Analyst/Business Analyst/Project Manager for very large corporate companies. My dream, however, is to get out of the rate race, and live on my own terms and make a business for myself. I will keep watching your videos. Keep posting. Thanks.
Hi Patricia! Welcome to my channel. I have a BA in Business Administration. My professional background includes customer service for Wachovia Bank (now Wells Fargo), Project Manager for Credit Marketing at Equifax, and Marketing Directory for Keller Williams Real Estate. So yes, all roles where systems, processes, clear communication, and employee handbooks are needed! Stay tuned! I am developing a product for eBay beginners that will help you dive into the eBay world with a head start!
Thank you for doing this video. I am anxious to see what my numbers are and grow with this knowledge. I like the way you presented the information. For a quick reference, I took pictures of the info for quick reference. I will definitely be using this info.
Thank you for this information. It helps tremendously. As an artist, eBay is becoming my second info. This video just saved me potentially a year or more of pain.
Thank you! Really good information. I will make the sheet right now,for start will be very helpful for me to understand where and when I made the mistake.
Well explained video with great info. Thanks for sharing. I'm just now trying to explain my market knowledge about higher end item to source for. I think this data will come in handy during this process. Thanks again!
Thqnk you for another awesome informative video! Gonna have to bookmark this one! :) Totally agree with you on the higher priced items! Same amount of work!
Great video Suzanne! One of the most helpful I've ever viewed! Question: Do you factor in the cost of your shipping supplies in your shipping cost column? I read through the comments and didn't see this anywhere, so I hope I'm not duplicating a question.
My spreadsheet is identical to yours! I was curious to see how other people kept track and its funny that most people end up with the same basic excel formula.
Excellent information. I have a very similar spreadsheet that gives my profit per item and average. It's good to know where you are and how you need to change to get to where you want. Thanks for a great video.
This makes a lot of sense. I already sell for more than what I buy for, and I don't have a store, but I should at least know how many items to carry. If Im hoping to reach goals without carrying a lot of inventory, then I'll need higher profit items, which is why I started selling more parts and plush. Thanks for this!
The best thing I did as a seller was pay 4.96 at the minimum level for a store. Then you can get almost all this already done by ebay itemized out at the Seller Hub. it even puts in the paypal fees per item in the break down.
Hi, I'm so glad I found your channel. I have been reselling part time for over a year now and I have 450 items listed. I really want to grow my business, and this approach makes perfect sense! I am going to take your advice and be more faithful about maintaining my spreadsheet. I have a question for you: When I am out sourcing and I'm not finding anything good I have a tendency to "settle" for items that aren't going to provide me with quite as much profit as I would like. For example, while my average profit per item is $30, sometimes on a slow day I'll pick up a top that I might make $5 on. I tell myself that since I'm already at the store looking for inventory, I might as well get something out of it, even if it's less than I would like. Should I stop doing this?
I finally purchased the bookkeeping spreadsheet and input all the data for eBay for last month. (Great spreadsheet) My question is what reports do I need to pull at the end of each month & what do I need to make sure balances at the end of month. I want to do this right so end of year is easy. Thank you.
This was very helpful. I do keep a spreadsheet but I never broke it down like this before. Apparently I need 975 items in my store and I'm at 903. So I guess I'm close but I'm already out of space 😒 and have more inventory than I can comfortably handle.
Suzanne, The "dropbox" worksheet link doesn't seem to be working anymore. Is this available in the Premium Library? (I am a member). I have purchased Vick's esales Spreadsheet, but don't see the same report that you show at the beginning of this video that shows your sales. Thanks in advance! Sheila
Hi, sorry about that. Here is the correct link: www.dropbox.com/s/befqplb63eyp95i/Suzanne%20A.%20Wells%20Worksheet%20for%20Getting%20to%20Your%20eBay%20Goal.docx?dl=0
Hi Suzanne, accidentally came across your video today, actually been looking to get some information on Ebay for a few days, and the information you have provided is heads n shoulders above the others I have seen so far, absolutely incredible, straight forward and honest information, really impressed. Now I have a question, as you mentioned the methodology in the above video, for those who are already selling and how they can improve, But what do you suggest to those like me who are just getting started, haven't sold a thing on ebay, what should we do, how to get started on the right foot, and how to get to $2000 a month, at least, Plz do lemme know
Hi Mirza - the best strategy is to come to my Premium Library, take all of the beginner courses, and I can personally help you get your business going. See you there! suzanne.teachable.com/
Great information! Thank you for sharing. I love your videos! You always give great information and I have learned a lot from watching them. I keep two separate spreadsheets, one for inventory and one for profit and loss. At the end of the month, I look at my eBay invoices to see what has sold. I then look at PayPal statements for payments received and costs incurred (shipping, eBay and PayPal fees). I update my spreadsheets based on this information and include cost of goods. This method has been working for me so far to determine what my monthly profit works out to be. However, there is one question I have for you that I noticed you did not mention in the video. How do you account for returned items? This is where I get a bit confused because the refund amounts are not the same as the payments received.
This is exactly what I needed! I needed to know HOW can I get there what can I do different with what I already know....not what I can potentially do with my store 😩 thanks !!!!
Hi Suzanne, I wrote a "How to Sell on eBay" book in 1999 when I first started selling. I self-published it (before Amazon KDP was around) and now I write other instructional books, but not about eBay. I use to be able to sell really well on eBay but over the past few years have lost touch and was wondering what advice would you give someone who was trying to get their groove back after not selling much over the past few years?
Hi Ann, this is a bit more than I can answer here in a comment on UA-cam. Please schedule a consultation and we can discuss in detail and help you get moving again on eBay! live.vcita.com/site/suzanneawells/online-scheduling?service=1c6erpsgik2369ow
Understand about profit. Trying to pick more expensive items. Going by prices you say in your videos. Right now think I have about $750 inventory. Have to wait till the 3rd to talk to you. Have lots of questions how to start an account on eBay so I can get started. Looking forward to talking to you as soon as I can get an appointment. Thanks ukiahjan
Hi Suzanne. Thanks for the info! I have 2 questions. I have had an eBay account I have had for 10 years to sell random things here and there. Should I use that account to start my business or a new one with a business name? #2 How do you determine if you should price something with a fixed price or auction? Thanks!
Use the one that is already established - you won't have to jump through newbie hoops. www.thebalance.com/which-is-better-on-ebay-auctions-or-fixed-price-listings-4101494
I would also sugest to make it a store even for the 4.95 ebay puts alot of info in many details on every item you sell in a spreadsheet in the Seller Hub.

I've sold a few items on Ebay. Not many. The intense competition is what makes me price my items low. If I go high, I feel like the item won't sell.

I have been selling on ebay for two years! Thank you for sharing this with us! You are an excellent teacher!
Wow, you make it so easy to figure out! This is a keeper video so I can reference when I have questions!! Thank you!😁
Thank you so much for this video! I saw my sales increase at ~100 listings, but now I know exactly how many I need to reach my goals.
Yes, indeed this is the most practical approach~such a great service to lay it out for folks to see. OMG, I think I love you! What a fab no nonsense straight to the point video. SUBSCRIBING! Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge 🙏

Great content need to find time to follow your classes to reach my goal. Love all your videos always very informative and inspirational thanks
Easy to understand tutorial. Thank you. Much appreciated.
Thanks! Seeing my numbers in this light make my monthly goals seem very achievable. Love your channel
A straight-forward, common sense approach. Love it. Excellent video!
Best tutorial yet...thank you Suzanne.
Love this Suzanne..bookmarked this for future reference. Working on ramping up my business and this really helps me as all of your videos do! Thanks so much!
Really appreciate your teaching. Just started backup after 4 years off. This will help me immensely.
I decided to use ebay profits to pay off our mortgage early. I have been sending in an extra $2K every month for 2-3 years. We have only 3 more payments to make. Thank you so much for this video. I'm just about to start selling on ebay. Hope to list my first items this WEEK! I have been watching your videos for the past couple of weeks. Thank you for sharing what you have learned on your ebay journey.
Thank you!

Thank you, Hope Lawrence! Glad to help.
Thank you!
Thank you and yes, work at your own pace. You have to live your life, not somebody else's.
Great Information..Thank you for your Awesome HELP Videos!! Even after 14 years doing Ebay I always learn something NEW from your Videos!!

One of the best videos i have ever seen on ebay
Thank you for doing this video. I am anxious to see what my numbers are and grow with this knowledge. I like the way you presented the information. For a quick reference, I took pictures of the info for quick reference. I will definitely be using this info.
I needed this video badly.

Thank you for this video. I can tell you put a lot on time into it.
Thank you for all the info! It's great and I appreciate it very much.
Great video Suzanne! One of the most helpful I've ever viewed! Question: Do you factor in the cost of your shipping supplies in your shipping cost column? I read through the comments and didn't see this anywhere, so I hope I'm not duplicating a question.
No, I enter those as an expense. Most are free anyway with priority mail.
This is great, I love it. You are so much smarter than all the rest! Ty ty ty!!!
My spreadsheet is identical to yours! I was curious to see how other people kept track and its funny that most people end up with the same basic excel formula.

Hi Suzanne...Love your videos. Quick question, How do I get to the Selling Manager you talked about? I don't see it anywhere.
Excellent, makes a lot of sense. Subscribed, ty!

It all depends on your bottom line. You have to look at the big picture, not just one item.
ebay and Amazon were a lot less competitive 13 years ago.
Keep that in mind before making any big moves.
Your just the best. Thank you so much💕
I finally purchased the bookkeeping spreadsheet and input all the data for eBay for last month. (Great spreadsheet) My question is what reports do I need to pull at the end of each month & what do I need to make sure balances at the end of month. I want to do this right so end of year is easy. Thank you.
You should discuss that with whomever is doing your taxes.
Here is the correct link:

Love your honesty 😊

Thank you this makes good sense, I'm going to do it.
I'm disabled now and trying to decide if I want to get into selling, thank you for the info.
Go for it! You have nothing to lose.
Thank you very much for sharing your expertise!
Thanks so much for this and your other videos@
Hi Kate - I subtract the refund amount during the month that I process the refund.
are you having another 2h Q&A anytime soon? tks!!! I love your videos.
Are you referring to the Lunch and Learn - in person seminar?
Great videos. I wanted to know about your listing service. You spoke about in one of your other videos.

I do not have plans to at this time.
This is a great video. Thanks
Thank you for this video.I already have a spread sheet but this will now help me get where I want to be in my business.
BEST VIDEO EVER!! Thank you!!
Great advice. Thankyou!
Please schedule a consultation and we can discuss in detail and help you get moving again on eBay!

thank you for breaking down the numbers.

Suzanne A. Wells Thank you!
I would also sugest to make it a store even for the 4.95 ebay puts alot of info in many details on every item you sell in a spreadsheet in the Seller Hub.
cool method thanks!
You're the best! Thank you!
This video is an example of why you are my favorite eBay coach. A pile of packages means nothing, I want to know profit per item.
Great advice! Thank you!
