I'm a grandson of the Chiang Kai‐shek army personnel. My grand-father served in the ROC army, he was in charge of the ground forces horses. He couldn't read or write, but he fought bravely against the Japanese in WWII, and then the Communists. We won't go into the use of horses in WW2 here. He told me countless stories of the bloody battles leading up to the retreat to Taiwan, and the times when the supplies couldn't make their ways to the front lines. Those accounts were some that continued to live on in my mind, I'm now in my 50's.
I really appreciate your video which added the battles to take Taiwan by the PROC aka Communists, and their failed attempts in the early days. I did not hear about those directly so this closed some gaps for me. I moved to the US at the age of 12, and let me tell you, education was a big deal in Taiwan growing up. Lots of scholars. I'm not that surprised by what Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing has accomplished. Hope Intel and Taiwan Semi's new fabs onshore take us to the next levels.

I have one question. TSMC started in 1987. The USA made it's defense pact with ROC in 1954, not in the late 80s. Granted that the rise of TSMC has upped the ante for the US, BUT, the primary premise seems to be at odds with History. We have been protecting the ROC way before silicon became important. Your placing our support of ROC strictly on TSMC is very flawed.

Who controls the supply of microchips? Not Taiwan. ASML does. The company in the Netherlands the designs and builds the machines that make silicon chips. Yes Fabs are very complex and costly facilities to build. Taiwan is the labor force. Currently. That will, as you mentioned, change.

That is an oversimplification. Taiwan is far more than the labor force and all of The countries involved are critical to the process. If Taiwan never got another machine from the Netherlands they could still make chips for years.

On the commentator saying there was no financial value to invading Ukraine is inaccurate. Russia invaded Ukraine to control former industrial capacity and oil reserves in the Donbas region as well as the recent discovery of massive oil and gas reserves off the Ukrainian coast in the Black Sea. Development and control of the reserves was a major long term threat to Russian oil and gas sold to the European market and an incentive to Russia to further increase its wealth by stealing these resources by conquering Ukraine.

Hey Tesla Space. Good video. I have noticed a trend with content producers. A lengthy history lesson and back ground information effectively burying the lead. I suspect this is to pad run time in order to qualify for an ad break. Please be mindful of this. I don't need a history primer with every subject.

The United States is suffering from our own educational system. There are not enough trained technologists here in the country. TSMC is building a huge fab in Arizona but can’t staff it without shipping hundreds of trained employees from Taiwan. It’s s sad state of affairs that our school system is so poor thanks to the Dept of Education… which should be dismantled for its many abject failures.

Follow the money folks. The capitalist concept drives human greed. We fight for wealth and valuable consideration. The concept of personal ownership has moved the majority of human kind beyond a hunter-gatherer assistance.

There was a phase of human evolution when the concept of ownership belonged to a small tribal group who claimed a particular water source. Anthropology 101. Then individuals became more independent thanks to modern technology they sought to amass personal wealth.

The Taiwanese voted freely for their freedom and democracy, the island became a free and sovereign country like the others. This vote nullifies any belonging to the paranoid delirium of the dictatorship of the continent. This is called respecting a people's vote for their freedom of choice to think and act. Taiwanese have seen all individual freedom disappear in Hong Kong and they are not stupid in front of a single-thought dictatorship

If the tesla related content only speaker starts talking about Taiwan being a country, this would make me really nervous that media is pushing another round of historical cognitive manipulation to either wish Taiwan to announce independence or presume China will end the civil war non-peacefully. Yeah the Cold War has ended for 30 years, but the “Cold War” between CPC and ROC has been lasting for 70 years.
