Incidentally, I got this exact board two days ago as a gift. It's my first e-board so I can't compare it with anything else, but it's small enough to fit on my desk as an analysis board (I have a bunch of chess books, but my tournament-size chessboard is simply too big to put it on my desk and have a book opened next to it for study), but big enough to comfortably play on it. The pieces are made of plastic, but have a slight texture, which I think it's nice. I played a couple of games and all moves registered correctly. There were a couple of cases where the piece was on the edge of a square and the square flashed from time to time, but simply re-adjusting the piece solved the issue. But, all in all, very smooth operation and very quickly I was focusing only on the chessboard, completely forgetting about the phone and the app. The board editor is very, very interesting and I read that it's more of a proof of concept right now (the "play as white" or "play as black" don't give you any feedback nor does the display rotate if you choose black), but I'm looking forward to seeing what they add to the board editor (seems like picking the AI level would be one of the features). The only missing feature from ChessUp 2 from my point of view is some sort of integration with Fritz/Chessbase. I have a toddler so the only time I can dedicate 30 minutes or an hour to play chess is in the evening when I'm a bit tired, so I tend to play a quick game with Fritz whenever I have the time and, if I'm interrupted, it's fine because I won't lose on time :-) I also have Shredder and Hiarcs just to mix things a bit. I don't like the Chesscom bots because the lower rated bots (sub-1600) almost always blunder their pieces, especially the queen, which I don't think is realistic, but Fritz, Shredder and Hiarcs are a lot closer to what I see from my peers. Otherwise, great board!
Obviously, after posting this comment I found out about BearChess, which allows you to connect to your ChessUp board and use whatever custom engine you want!
The plan in this position is play e4 double on the d file by placing a rook on d6 the other on d1 if he exchanges on d6 you exchange everything except the queens then you play e5 protecting the d6 pawn after and the space advantage with the threat of d7 and d8 is so overwhelming the king can walk to h6 and win all the king side
Was hoping for some detailed information. What kind of engine is in the app, what ELO do the levels have? Are the games saved ? Can you analyze your games? Can games be downloaded to replay?
Pretty cool! Wish they made one a little bigger for otb players. 12"x12" is a bit small for those used to playing on an otb size board and who want to train for upcoming events.
I have never tried to turn off that so I'm not entirely sure. If I find anything out I'll let you know. Otherwise, you can always ask in the ChessUP forums.
Yes you can connect to and play on Lichess through the app for now. From what I understand by reading the forums, Lichess will integrated into the board UI at a later date. Hope this helps!
Hey there. Thanks for the upload. 1200 elo here... Was your opening a King's Indian of some variation? (Queen side pawn placement looked like a Queen's gambit...)
Yes that right, if you look at the pinned comment i love the book 'Keep it Simple 1. d4' that's where I learned this opening. My favorite opening book!
Hi, "katzenpapa"..., Excellent video and excellent ( ChessUp 2 Smart Chess Board ) ! ! * Perfect timing for video..., receiving my ( ChessUp 2 Smart Chess Board ) today. * Excellent video and very informative, and "Thank you" for sharing the video ! ! Excellent video... "Semper Fi" Mike in Montana * P.S.: More videos on the "ChessUp 2 Smart Chessboard." :)
@ it only does it if I start the game from the app itself, not if I choose it from the ChessUp interface without using the phone to initiate the matches 🥲
As someone already said the board only displays the legal moves when playing online the same as any website shows legal moves when you pick up a piece.
Showing legal moves is not cheating. Unless you’re a very early beginner, most people know how the pieces move. Anyways, on any online platform you can turn the setting on that displays legal moves.
Move assistance is when it lights the squares different colors based on if they are good, suspect, blunder. I believe that feature can't be turned on when playing online (though maybe it can for the online bots). AFACT you have to play locally or the local bot to have that feature on.

Great video ! I'd wanna see a comparison between this and chessnut EVO, is the chessnut Evo really worth the higher price ?
Mine gets here Monday can’t wait!
Congrats! 👏
I am waiting for mine as well. When did you order yours?
Mine does too, I’m so excited.
@victor51683 congrats on your purchase! 😀

I don't want a christmas tree; we want to play chess!
Ho ho ho 🎄🎄
Hey Papa. Great video as usual. Can you set up a position, black playing from the bottom without turning the board around?
The screen will rotate 180 degrees if you are playing as black. Screen will be on the left.
Great to watch while waiting on my own to arrive. I would like to see how you can use the board for analyzing and learning.
Coming soon!
This should be on my porch by Wednesday. I already have the first one thanks to Katzenpapa. 😉👍
You’ll love the upgrade!
Was hoping for some detailed information.
What kind of engine is in the app, what ELO do the levels have? Are the games saved ? Can you analyze your games? Can games be downloaded to replay?
Hi i dont always have access to to internet. Is it possible to play against bots while the board is disconnected to wifi?
Yes, currently you can choose between lvl 1-12 (100-1200? Elo) the company says 2000 elo is coming in a later update
Pretty cool! Wish they made one a little bigger for otb players. 12"x12" is a bit small for those used to playing on an otb size board and who want to train for upcoming events.
Thanks for chiming in!
That's why Chessnut Pro, Millenium Supreme, etc. exist. Full size without the annoying over the top lighting.
@@mark100net1 . Thanks!
Could you do a video using the lichess app on this? Thanks 👍
Thanks! Very interesting. I suggest a comparison with chessnut air.
If I hadn't seen your hands I'd of said you were black, some real bass in your voice lol, nice video 👍👌
I got that boom boom boom
Is there a way to turn off the assistance where it shows the legal moves in a 2 player setting? For tournaments, I do not want any handicaps.
I have never tried to turn off that so I'm not entirely sure. If I find anything out I'll let you know. Otherwise, you can always ask in the ChessUP forums.
Yes there is a setting in the app to turn legal moves off
I am still waiting for my board from them. It took them around 2 - 3 weeks just to get it to USP
I'm getting mine in a few days. Looks awesome. Does the display flip if you end up being black and have to flip the board?
it does when you start a Chesscom game through the board UI, if you get black the screen will rotate.
Bear in mind you have to rotate the board.
How does this compare to the Chessnut Evo? Which one do you prefer?
Can you play on liches with this?
Yes you can connect to and play on Lichess through the app for now. From what I understand by reading the forums, Lichess will integrated into the board UI at a later date. Hope this helps!
I hope they also integrate the chessup into also I can only do it through the app. Just got mine a few days ago. So far I'm very impressed by it
@@riv1188I am waiting on mine to arrive. How long did you wait from ordering to receiving?
@Knypsterino I ordered it Nov 5th and received it Dec 10th
@riv1188 congrats! 🥳

Thank bro!! 👍
you’re not answering questions that people are asking, but you’re “liking” their questions.
For me Chessnut EVO is much better !
But the price difference is quite large. If the price was the same, no contest.

Can u do game review in the 2 player mode
Does it have an eval bar?
When you analyze a game in the app, yes it has an eval bar.
Not compatible with lichess is a deal-breaker
Is there one that is?
Nice video :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Play Lichess please.
Blitz games don’t transfer over :(
If you play OTB blitz it will save your games to the history in the app, you have to scroll o the bottom,
@ it only does it if I start the game from the app itself, not if I choose it from the ChessUp interface without using the phone to initiate the matches 🥲
This sounds like an AI made up title
You have move assistance. Your cheating
