- The End of an Era with the passing of the Legendary Big Dan Ingram Sunday night June 24, 2018. This video tribute illustrates why he was so admired by radio people, coast-to-coast and around the world! This video aircheck is tagged with a story from CBS 2 in New York City.
I listen with my eyes closed and suddenly I am back in the Bronx in the 60s.
Me too! Hanging out with my classmates at Dewitt Clinton and the pretty girls from Walton H.S. back in the late '60's!!
Me two 222 and Laconia ave
I spent 28 years on the air. It was never as easy a Dan Ingram made it look here.
These guys were so professional, people on radio today you can't even listen to them they don't have a broadcasters voice
Harry Harrison, Ron Lundy; Dan Ingram; Cousin Brucie, Chuck Leonard; Mid 70's as a kid that was all we listened to in North Jersey
njerzee911 Absolutely the Best
And down The Jersey Shore. I can listen to this all day...
Me too. I miss those days.
The only one still alive. Cousin Brucie.
The Cuz is back home at 77WABC on Saturdays 6-9 pm. His first show back was Sept 5th. It was great! It went by too fast though. The repeat is today Labor day from noon - 3.
When I was in High School in the early to mid sixtys , Big Dan Ingram was on the radio from like 3 pm to 6 pm and he was awesome. His Aunt Martha was also my 7th grade teacher. Truly a legend. "Stay tuned for more music and Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig Dan Ingram "
For years laying on the beach at Seaside Heights I heard his radio introduction as "getting rum" and wondered why they were saying that. I believe I asked someone this and they laughed and corrected me and said its Dan Ingram. Now that's funny! Miss those days.
When I worked in radio, I worked with his son, Chris Ingram. He was a awesome guy. I unfortunately never got to meet Dan. But his legend lives on.
No songs, no skits, no silly characters, no schtick. Just great radio. There was Dan and everyone else. He was THAT good.
Dan made it sound so easy. He was the best I've ever heard.
Sounds great. We had Pat St. John, Dick Purtan, Gary Burbank, Robert E Lee, Bill Gable, Lee Alan, Tom Ryan, etc. We were blessed too. I’m still a daily listener to Pat. St. John and love his jingles sounding verrrry similar to those at The Big Eight! Love live DJ radio!
Gregg
Dan was the ultimate radio DJ. Dan was quick witted and smart. I love listening to his airchex and will continue to do so. There was no one better than Dan Ingram. RIP Dan.
Absolutely the best! Listened to him on 77 WABC!! Then CBS!!
The voice of New York is Dan Ingram - he has the pulse of perfection.
"Hey, Kimosabe!/How you doing, Kimosabe?" Those were Dan's long-time greetings.
Greatest DJ of all time. Can listen over and over to his airchecks.Hey Kamosaba May you rest in peace
ThisGuy was the best. I am so sad he is gone I knew his mom and dad. I grew up on the same block in Malverne, NY. What I wouldn't do to be back to that time what fantastic, amazing, beautiful people... Rest. in Peace my Friend. We Love and miss you all.....
I grew up with him from when I was a child listening to 77WABC until 2004 when he was at 101.1 WCBS. He made listening to the radio fun, I studied communications in college, so I could have as much fun as he did, never did follow through on it though. 😊
I remember in the mid 80's staying up really late Friday night listening to his ( I assume it was nationally syndicated) version of weekly Top 40 in suburban Philadelphia. Miss that unique voice.
I grew up listening to Dan as a kid in Yonkers New York, back when times were so much better than they are now, what a pleasure it was running across this, and some of the many other posts and videos of this wonderful man and his talent, and what a talent he had! What a shame we don't have that Talent today! So glad these memories will live on forever, so glad I was part of the real thing way back then, and so happy to hear them again today! Rest in peace my friend you made so many people so very happy! You were a true Class Act!
Grew up in Philadelphia where I had WFIL and WIBG presets on my car radio. But once I discovered WABC came in crystal clear, I never missed an afternoon with Dan Ingram. Truly the greatest top 40 DJ of all time, he was my own inspiration to get into radio. I never did top 40, but used his style of wit and translated it into country, where I did mornings. R.I.P. Dan.
WIBG! "Truckin Tom Boogie Kent" aka "TK" worked there in the '76/'77.
Enjoyed these video airchecks!
Grew up with him on 77 WABC in the 60s the best DJ RIP Kemosabe
Cousin Brucie back on the radio.
Saturday night rock and roll.
77 WABC. 😊
If your listening on the beach "roll your bod".
RIP Dan.
Dan Ingram/Cousin Brucie on 77-WABC New York in the 60s. What a ONE-TWO punch!!
Cousin Brucie is back on the radio.
Saturday night rock and roll.
77 WABC
With Scott Muni in between
I remember listening to Dan Ingram at WABC while living in Dunellen, NJ in the 60s. Wonderful jingles, great music. I miss him, miss the station, miss the times.
The one and only. I wonder how many Guys and Gals were having fun in the backseat of their car hearing Dans voice in between the tunes???
70's, 4:00 in the afternoon. I'd flip my car radio to WABC, Dan would come on and everything would be right in the world. I pull up snippets of him on UA-cam to return to my precious past, made so by talent like this. I love Dan Ingram. Didn't understand how important a part of my life he was then...but I sure as hell do now.
Daaaaaaaaan Ingram! - Forever emblazoned in my memory having grown up in NY in the 80s. This was pretty much the only radio station allowed by my parents to be played in the car and the house when they were in hearing distance.
I was working for a time at WICC-AM in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where Dan started out as Raye Taylor. On Dan's 35th radio anniversary I sent him a letter congratulating him, mentioning I was now behind the mic at the station where he started. He sent a wonderful reply about a year later.....my letter got crunched in the back of his desk drawer. I have it framed and has a place of honor in my studio at home. RIP Big Dan, there will never be another. :(
I grew up with Dan. He is the role model for my sense of humor.
just hearing these guys makes the world good again, thanks for the post
What an amazing voice. I remember him as a kid. No matter how bad things got he put you in a good mood. Thanks for the post, and thanks for remembering this great man.
Dan, it’s like I know you having a heck of a time up there. I just know. Godspeed
As a teen I wanted to be a DJ like Big Dan and got a gig as a DJ on a college radio station when I learned how hard it was to be creative and entertaining. I lacked the talent this good man had. I remembered taking a lunch break late in the day just so I could pick up a half hour of his show. He was the simply, the best with a sense of timing and humor unmatched during the greatest time of rock radio. Sadly, now all we have left is cousin Brucie and his submarine races.
I remember this station being on at my aunt's house, growing up in New Jersey. Her favorite was Ron Lundy. She told me that whenever he came on, she would never run the vacuum. Lol.
Take me back to the good times, we grew up with these guys
Thanks for the post. He was simply the greatest.
I’m related to him RIP
He made it look so easy, as all professionals at anything do. I remember SO much of his "schtick" on WABC in the '70s. He was as much a part of my humor and sense of humor as any other singular source.
None better than Dan Ingram! RIP, Kemosabe!
It was an honor to have known him and have worked with him. RIP, Dan! Mike
Dan "the man" Ingram wow! "when i grow up, i want to be just like you!" 35 year Legend here, RIP Dan. "TheVic"
DAN INGRAM was a great ĎJ
His TM Echo Reverb Machine is still in full usage by Cousin Brucie at WABC!
Dan Ingram was arguably one of the greatest personalities in NY radio.
The only possible argument might be whether he was *the* greatest..! (Certainly “among”...!)
Many trips from philly back then to hear big dan, he was quick
Love the guy, and love the legend. I used to listened to him on WCBS-FM on weekends, and what a talent he was. I made an episode of the "MTN Gang" where they met Dan Ingram, and I made a "Comedy World" version of Dan Ingram in GoAnimate form in tribute to "Big Dan". He will be part of the team along with Shirley Temple, Bojangles and me.
Dan, Harry, George Michael you guys were the best!!
Nov 9 1965 blackout was a classic with dan on the air
Dan Ingram made me love voices & words. I love him and that will always be present tense. RIP, Kemosabe. Thanks so much for posting this.
Art, thanks for the flashback with one of THE best DJs I've ever heard. It didn't take a "Satellite Survey" to convince me that Dan Ingram was one smooth operator on the radio (but the national CBS show he did DAMNED helped). The broadcast waves won't be the same without you, thank you, God bless, RIP, and bye for now, Kimo Sabe.
That so familiar voice from our generation.... best !
I loved listening to 101.1 FM whilee I was on tour busses.
I know I played them on the bus
He was in a class of his own. Time went by way too fast. A huge influnce in my life
Radio Rock Top 40 Jocks and news team is what got us listening back in the days! Dan Igram!
Fantastic Video / Air Check . Loved It. I Miss Big Dan and that great recognizable voice. Is there anyone alive now that sounds like Dan? Thank You
The greatest of all time! RIP Dan
Big Dan was a Radio Favorite For Many Listeners Like His Other Counter Part DJ'S Ron Lunde and Joe Obrien , They all Had Their Sidekicks , Joe Had Benny , Ron Had Willard , Dan Had Pronto . To anybody Who listened to 77 WABC OR 101.1 WCBSFM And We Cannot Forget WMCA. A Tribute to All The Greats We Have Lost They Will Be Sorely Missed By ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LOVED THE GREAT DJ'S. Dan Will Be Missed.
Wow!!! It's interesting seeing these guys on video while at the station!!!! 😁😁😁
R.I.P. Oh Great One 😢😢
Dans finally with Ron & Harry in Rock & Roll Heaven.
Brad Y. Thanks for the correction I guess I was caught up in my sorrow, but iam glad I was wrong.
Still in shock.
none better. I still remember his “northeastern America power blackout” show of 11-9-65.😄
In the key of R?
We worked for the same company ABC. He in New York, me in Detroit. He was a giant...RIP
Dan was my all time favorite. No one like him.
Art, I admire all the work you've done to preserve radio history by video taping so many of the giants in this industry. I love it that you take a board feed for the audio to obtain the best possible sound. I first saw your work when Harry Harrison sent me his collection of video tapes to transfer to DVD for him back in 2006. You are a master at your craft and a true "friend of radio." I've been watching through some of your videos you've posted here and really appreciate the time and energy you spent capturing these moments. Thank you so much. -- Larry Ware from Peoria, IL. P.S. While I never heard most of the Y talent off-air when they were popular, it's been nice to see their work through your recording efforts. I really enjoyed this snapshot of Dan Ingram. He was a true original.
Thanks for the Memories To the Whole WCBS Fm Crew!!!!!
Big Dan - loved his show every day.
Love hearing his voice again. Miss you.
YOU MAKE ME FEEL BRAND NEW
I remember listening to him back in the 60's on WABC on an AM radio. A classic. I see he didn't run the board. Interesting.
No one in NYC did. Heavily union.
@@pegbars Cousin Brucie did.
Loved Dan Ingram & Ron Lundy, the alums of 77 WABC for many years (the latter would end up CBS-FM two years after WABC permanently utilized an All-Talk format; Ingram then came some seven years later).
Cousin Brucie is back on the radio.
Saturday night rock and roll.
77 WABC. 😊
Thank you, Mr. V. What a great tribute... and the edit in of the TV newscast about his passing was great. Thanks--a great tribute to the greatest of all time. A true GOAT!

Art, Thank you for the Tribute. Big Dan RIP!
From the '60s till he retired listening to Dan was always great. WOW!!
Super video!!! Enjoyed it immensely.
Thanks
Peace be upon you, Kemosobe! 😢📻
Dan had great timing to talk on instrumental openings of songs and then stop when the vocal starts.
Thanks for posting
He was fun to listen to but unfortunately my transistor radio ran on batteries so I had to control my usage but with youtube I can hear what I never got to hear or see . A voice for all time is Dan Ingram as well as his witty repartee!
RIP Dan. Thanks for posting the video.
I love his personality and his style and he’s so close to My all time favorite Casey Kasem. Rest in peace gentlemen !!
Dan Inghram perfected Top 40.
He was the best Top 40 DJ of all time.
Learned to 'boss jock' from his tapes, along with Humble Harve, Wolfman, Don Steele, Machine Gun Kelly, etc...THAT was radio!!! RIP Big Dan!!

The MASTER! What a talent!
i remember them wow
Dan Ingram Ingram Ingram Ingram !
I love the part where he makes faces while Tony Warren does the news. Reminds me of Chevy Chase when he camera bombed Jane Curtain's Weekend Update commentaries.
He looked good with a beard. 🎅
Someone should tell the TV bimbo - who’d plainly never heard of Dan Ingram - that it DOESN’T look easy.
Defintely one of the best. Professional, but loved to make fun of his own mistakes. That alone, made him stand out.
man was he good. best ever at his profession
