If you’re wondering why something super automated could be useful the answer is often disabled people! Trash can that ties off the bag and has tiny bags that won’t get super heavy? So useful for many disabilities. Sadly also often extremely unaffordable though.
Same applies to those weird and seemingly useless kitchen gadgets, many are likely designed for disabilities but to make it profitable they market towards general consumers and avoid the stigma of being for disabled persons.
Katelyn's "oh yaaaaaaaay 🙃" at Evan's "it has an app! 😀" is how I feel about everything becoming automated and uselessly connected to our phones with subscriptions lol
Those carpet scrapers are good for open textured fabrics and carpets, but if you have a short/closed pile rug they just snag. That’s why it worked for the cat bed but not the rug. I got mine on eBay for about two bucks though.

I remember years ago there was a Reddit post on the issue of ridiculing products "for lazy people." As a disabled person they saw some of these things as helpful tools. For example, precut veggies for stir fries, and even a lot of "As Seen On TV" products. I think this could apply to the trash can that automatically seals and replaces bags.
Same with the digital tape measure (though that would be a different type of disability). But then the issue becomes the price tag for accessible products. The inaccessibility of accessibility, if you will.
Yeah! Lots of those types of products are made specifically for disability (even something as simple as arthritis will get in the way in the kitchen) and then are marketed as "smart" or "easy" rather than as assistive because they get more sales that way
I was about to mention this too! I am disabled and have trouble bending down for more than a few seconds + my hands locks up and are unusable at times so something like that trash can would make my life easier! (if it wasnt that expensive anyways)
Like I can see the trash can and paper towel dispenser being useful, especially for someone with disabilities(spoons mean being able to just lift the lid and it's ready to take out would be a godsend), but the cost is insane. I also haven't finished the video yet to see how well anything works. The printer could also be useful I suppose but again way too much money. (The ladder would potentially be amazing but again cost.)
I have behemoth of a glue gun (Im an artist) and I made seriously heavy ceramic mug for it, because all commercial rests were just too light weight and easily tipped over. But over a hundred for that, when my mug was close to free and I got to choose the shape & color, not a fan, no. Also, 4. Self defense tool! Just the sight of this honk of steel in your hand might be enough :)
You could also: Put it on the bottom rung of the folding ladder to decrease the wobble. Use it as the world worst paint water mug. (Won't accidentally drink from THAT!) Attach helium balloons, and some put some fake flowers inside to make a fancy balloon weight.
with how little liquid it holds i think it'd be really funny as a novelty challenge shot at some kind of bar like, "slam this shot in under five seconds without getting a black eye and get a free drink" 😂😂
The moment Katelyn's voice cracks when she says "I feel like maybe we should have set a budget" had me in stitches. What a good sign for the rest of it. And the paper towel dispenser seems like a disability aid.
The thing with a lot of the “unnecessarily” automated items are that they could actually be super helpful to disabled people and help them live more independently. The price point would make it hard for people to afford though.
Totally agree! I find this is true on a lot of the “gadget reviews” on Rosanna Pansino’s channel. A lot of these kinds of devices are so so helpful for folks with disabilities and motor differences - and so not deserving of the “useless” moniker!
@@constancebl7774 I could also see that trashcan be really useful in a hospital. Hospital trash is nasty, the less you have to come in contact with it, the better.
That's another thing to consider when looking at products that are often labeled as "lazy people things", like precut fruit, the snuggie, sock putting on machines, etc
😂😂😂 the screaming trash can got me. But FR, people with depression, adhd, ptsd, allergies to dust and sensory issues (ie bad smells, slimy stuff, etc) that garbage looks like a godsend. 😢
A lot of people might not know, but the trash can and the paper towel roll are also accessibility tools. Not just for if you are lazy or want convince. Often accessible tech is expensive out of the gate ;_;
Unfortunately, you just don’t think about those things when you’re abled. You don’t get it until you get disability and all the challenges that come with it. (Source: I developed an invisible but physical disability after years of being abled)
@@anisvadjian5142 my grandma was disabled very young. And I was a teacher's aid for "special ed" when in 8th grade. So I've been aware long before I was disabled. But, yes, many don't think about it. It's easy to ignore or blame disability on something the other person did. At least that I often see. I'm neurodivergent too, but late finding out. I'm not sure if that made me more self aware or not. My biggest hurdle wasn't accepting I was disabled, but accepting help. I really hope you are doing well for yourself even with your limitations!
I think a decent number of these would be good accessibility tools. Like if you don't have the fine motor skills to tie a trash bag closed, that heat sealing trash can might be good. *if that digital measuring tape has text-to-voice,* it can be useful for people with low/no vision.
The tape measure would be amazing if it was priced more affordably. My grandpa is an amazing carpenter but the small markings on a tape measure give him a hard time now. So it would be great for people who have visual imparments but the price is hard to justify
Agree 100% there are also talking measuring tapes that are over $100. Can't remember the price exactly and I know they are not as accurate as this one. I wonder if the app is accessible with voiceover?
Honestly I want one for my work. We measure material often and need the visual fraction options often for certain people but we can't see spending that price
the issue with it is the markings thay make it work will wear off very fast or get covered in mud on any jobsite in seconds, so its not great for professionals or people who will use it a lot
One of my favorite things over the years of watching Evan & Katelyn is just how more and more innuendos and adult jokes they slip into their videos. It's been glorious character development. "Feel my wood." "Oh it's so warm!" And not a single "Not that kind of channel" anywhere. 😏
@@crystalsommer9073 I'm pretty sure there's been also some heavy moderation to shadow ban people with inappropriate comments. Most young women on yt attract this kind of individual.
I actually find it kind of sad because I can't let my kids watch anymore. They're always begging me to check the latest one and see if it's ok to go on their playlist.
the automation of things that don't usually need to be automated really is a good thing, the more people who make and use these things, the easier it is to get them as a disabled person (medical supply companies are able to charge way more for specially designed accessibility products because its a niche market)
The trash can and paper towel dispenser are both things I could see myself, my mom, or my roomie using if it wasn't so expensive. Just easy spoon savers alongside the potential ways it can help someone with physical disabilities.
I’m over 50 now and that tape measure reader is looking very tempting! Even with glasses I can’t always read the numbers if it’s a little dark or in a tricky spot.
I can see my daughter really appreciating the automatic trash can. She really struggles with dirt, trash, etc and will not even touch it. So a can that seals the bag up for you and inserts the clean one all by itself? Goals!
I think this is more useful in a nursery for diapers or a bathroom for used sanitary pads. Maybe even for non-compostable food waste in the kitchen so you don't get bugs. Not for regular trash though. 😅
I hope they read these comments. In earlier videos people with disabilities were also pointed out as a target group for some of the "useless" gadgets they bought.
@@ChibiChula can you fill a whole trashbin in a day with these types of products? Otherwise you gonna waste a lot of (probably expensive) plastic bags. An airtight diaper bin is just the better solution.
Unironically, the thing I saw in this video I wanted the most were...the electric scissors Evan used. @@sia7051 Couldn't really say, although there are scorpions in my country, the USA is a very big country and there are no scorpions anywhere near my area. The thing is when an animal is "taken out to the farm" its usually just a way to avoid telling the kids that their pet has died and when they played sons of the forest turtle shells were extremely useful construction materials so they would "find" shells instead of saying they needed to kill a bunch more of the digital turtles.
That handheld printer is the worst version you can get. There's other and way better printers that print in color that can print on absolutely everything, including your skin. And the printer accepts pictures too.
14:58 That product was a lint/fluff/pilling remover originally so it’s actually doing what it was designed for. They’re at least 30 years old. Wouldn’t surprise me if it was a part of an old, old, old textile manufacturing machine and some worker had an idea and made one for home use. Btw. They cost almost nothing if you buy them as a lint/fabric comb in the sewing section of the supermarket or craft stores.
I love how Evan was like "Yay we didn't get scammed!" because they received their items, but yeah, the scam is the price. I've seen them many places for much cheaper. On the plus side, if they ever have a sweater that pills they already have the tools for it!
I know. I was going to say that I got one of those for a dollar fifty at dollar tree a month ago to replace the one I broke the handle on. The first one I got from the as seen on TV section in Walgreens for 3 dollars. They were scammed. 😢
All those dropship scam products sell on sites like aliexpress for fractions (e.g. the lint removers are probably a dollar or less) of how much they are upcharging
I wanted to mention here real quick that while many automated products were neither designed nor advertised for disabled people, they can be extremely helpful to those of us with disabilities :)
Exactly what i was thinking, some of these are useless but others could be helpful for ppl with mobility issues like the trash can, if it takes longer to tie and replace the bag than the thing takes to twist n melt it then itd be worth it for sure
@@CaityRaindrop This right here is the biggest problem with a lot of these automated things. Like, an automatic paper towel dispenser is great for people who have a hard time with manual dexterity. But a lot of those same people can't afford it.
To be honest, the digital read out measuring tape is great for people like me that have difficulty processing measuring considering I process differently due to my autism, plus my boyfriend is visually impaired. We plan to do crafts but things that seem “lazy” are usually just meant for people like us or old people. lol. So I’m noting that one down personally for us. Wish y’all the best!
I did not expect that printer thing to work as perfectly as it did. That was very impressive. The whole sandpaper glove bit cracked me the eff up. So glad you guys lightened up on the strict G-rated content rule. We're all adults here... lol.
I mean, my 11-year-old daughter watches this channel too. But she's in middle school, so ... I suppose she gets the same sort of thing there? There's a reason that the standard semi-joking test for "is there accidental innuendo here I'm missing?" is to ask a 5th-grader.
30:34 alot of times “automated things that dont need to be automated” are actually good accessibility tool that can help disabled people be more independent. Some people cant tie the garbage bag but they can pick up a sealed one and throw it away. So its not necessary for everyone but its a good thing we have them.
the trash can is actually great for me as a disabled person. my hand dexterity is sometimes so bad i can’t pick up a glass of water, garbage bags are the death of me. also it’s cool
I was thinking the same, it would be great for someone with a disability. I know someone with arthritis in their fingers, and they'd probably love a trash can like that. Could be a little bigger, but it would still be alright beside a desk.
Usually when someone’s asking “why would anyone need this”, the answer is disability 😂 the measuring tape with the display seems great for people who struggle to read the small numbers too, for example.
while these use cases are great, i still gotta question the astronomical prices tho. these aren't state-of-the-art prosthetics which a disabled person will use for life and grant them a level of mobility or dexterity that would be life-changing... these are still mostly minor conveniences that have more value for disabled folks. the question becomes... is the value of that shift from minor to major convenience worth a 1,000% markup? and when does it become exploitation of disabled folks? (probably if it is only marketed to them i guess)
You need to combine the Printer and the Towel Dispenser Print a secret message on a towel so when Katelyn walks by it spits out a towel which says "Hey Baby" or something :)
I feel like the trash can would be a god send for diapers, not having to handle the used diaper trash bag and having the labor of tying off and putting in a new bag done for you seems like heaven with a newborn.
I believe there was one marketed towards parents that did the same thing (closing it self) and was 50 bucks cheaper. the only con was that it was pastel yellow and had animals printed on, but you can literally spray paint it.
first thing that comes to mind for a lot of the automated products is how nice it would be for someone with disabilities. i find myself struggling with small mundane tasks that a lot of people wouldnt give a second thought, and something like the trash can would be so nice where i dont have to hurt my hands and arms trying to replace the bag. idk, not always for lazy people. love the video!
as a canadian, it’s wild to me that people live places where there could just be a scorpion in your house. like it makes sense because bugs get inside and if you live somewhere where scorpions are common but… holy crap i would not be able to handle that as calmly as you guys did
You get used to it lol I too live in Texas, and we don’t have scorpions right here, but we’ve had wasps get in the house. I had nine wasps crawl through my house ventilation into my bathroom fan, I had to spray them with wasp killer and shut the doors so they died before they could get out. I’ve also had a paper wasp land right next to me on the arm of a rocking chair in my living room once, that was fun
I'm from Florida where everything ever comes inside BUT we don't have scorpions.. at least not that ive seen so I also would have lost my absolute mind if I saw one in person let alone in my house hahaha

The fabric/cat hair device is actually really great at bringing sherpa back to life. We have one like the small size and use it frequently to remove hair from blankets and softening our sherpa pet beds and hoodies
The mini "cat hair scraper", is actually meant for clothing with pilling (like on knitted garments, those little balls of lint/floof that form in high friction areas like under the arms/side torso, or on track pants betwixt the legs). In my country it's called Eezy Comb, and are marketed specifically for fabric pilling removal. They work perfectly, but do involve a bit of sweat equity to remove the pilling, but worth it in the end. 🌈 The More You know 🌈 😉
Tip for catching scorpions: They cannot see clear glass, so put a large/tall drinking glass over them. Then slide some cardstock/paperboard underneath. If you tap them from behind with the wall of the glass, they will run forward onto the paperboard. Then you can move them glass and all. I typically flip the glass right side up and give the paperboard a tap. They will then fall to the bottom of the glass and won't be able to climb up the glass wall. This makes for safest transportation. I get Arizona Bark scorpions in my home every summer, so this method helps me a lot. P.S. Mosquitoes also cannot see clear glass, so this method works well for catching them as well when they are lurking on your bathroom wall. With your hand at a distance because you are holding the end of the glass, they will not fly away. You can also use something flimsier like a paper towel instead of paperboard for them.
Evan throwing away the instructions and then shamefully picking them up is SO relatable XD This was such a fun experience to watch and definitely googly eyes make EVERYTHING better!!!

I definitely think that for contractors, yeah, that measuring tool would be great. Considering how much double and triple checking that needs to be done for TONS of things, it'd save time. I wish there was an automated measuring tool for fabric and sewing (or ya'know, something that will magically cut the fabric for me perfectly XP )

The ladder looks like it would be perfect for those people that just need to change a lightbulb or something like that. Easy to store and transport around the house/apartment, sturdy enough for minor tasks. The paper towel dispenser would be very usefull in places where your hands are actually dirty, and you do not want the roll to get dirty for whatever reason (dirty paper towels in the kitchen?)
I live in a 1 bedroom apartment with really high ceilings, last time we had to set up my 3step step ladder on top of chairs (do NOT try this at home so scary) just to change a lightbulb, this would be perfect and could fit behind a door or in a closet
Hey guys! I actually have those cat hair cleaning thingies. I almost never use the big one, its weird, but i always use that middle sized one for my carpet floor. It tends to work really well. The downside is that it really depends on the type of texture its going over. If you’ve got loose threads or visible seam or stitch marks it’ll pull on those so be careful!
I have used plastic sponges to get dog hair out of hard to reach places (stair rug) and it works fantastically and doesn’t seem to damage the rug at all. I have seen these types around but I was worried about damaging things (I rent) so I was glad to see them try it!
The faces you made when you used the label maker 😂 It was like you just entered your 90s RPG villain era - “you have no idea about what kind of chaos I shall unleash!” Also I think a lot of the automated items are more so for people who have disabilities or large scale/very busy operations. I can imagine that trash can being especially useful for strongly scented items like compost.

14:42 Wait. Y'all actually have scorpions where you live? I've never realised they could just...enter houses just like spiders. That puts our massive woodland spiders into a whole new perspective. At least our spiders just scare us, and don't have the chance to potentially sting us! Horrifying. (Context: we live very close to a little tiny forest and a lake, so we often get massive spiders sneaking into our home. Especially into our sitting room on the ground-level facing the farming fields. They're absolutely massive beasts, those that get inside.)
I also live in Texas, and I can confirm we have scorpions that just come into the house. When I was a kid, I woke up in the middle of the night, and there was one on top of my blankets.
Yeah those little guys are all over Texas. They're not really dangerous, they just hurt like a wasp but worse. They are less aggressive than wasps too, pretty easy to catch with a cup and paper and release. Just need to check your boots in the morning if you leave them outside

@@Fancyfinn99 exactly what I thought
The digital tape measure is great for people with vision issues. It’s why I bought mine. Fraction lines are hard to see for some.
I think they’re cool but I also think Evan perhaps bought the most clunky and expensive version of this concept 😂

Like the trash can that seems a little silly could actually be useful for people that struggle with fine motor skills!
My thoughts exactly! I'm kinda surprised and also disappointed this isn't obvious to more people.
A lot of people might not know, but the trash can and the paper towel roll are also accessibility tools. Not just for if you are lazy or want convince.
Often accessible tech is expensive out of the gate ;_;
This is what I thought of! So many people with movement and musculoskeletal disorders could use this.
Yes I was going to say this too! I hate it when people automatically say they're useless and just for lazy people
Unfortunately, you just don’t think about those things when you’re abled.
I really hope you are doing well for yourself even with your limitations!
literally just commented this! putting bin bags in my current bin is such a struggle for me because i am disabled & have mobility limitations.
the euphoria of the label printer and paper towel dispenser is infectious, great stuff
The irritation when Katelyn realized the "printer" was just a label maker, but the absolute 180° joy turn was peak E&K 🎉
18:07 I love how Evan just went from “oh it works!” to “IM GONNA PUT IT ON EVERYTHING! EXIT, BOMB, EVERYTHING!!”
One of my favorite things over the years of watching Evan & Katelyn is just how more and more innuendos and adult jokes they slip into their videos. It's been glorious character development.

The editing where the scorpion was headed to the farm is so good. Editor has an eye for cinema.
the automation of things that don't usually need to be automated really is a good thing, the more people who make and use these things, the easier it is to get them as a disabled person (medical supply companies are able to charge way more for specially designed accessibility products because its a niche market)
Agreed for sure. I immediately see an accessibility market for the measuring tape and trash can.

@@ChibiChulaI thought of using it for the cat litter box would be good too, but you would have to get a new bag every time

Unironically, the thing I saw in this video I wanted the most were...the electric scissors Evan used. As someone with ADHD and a chronic illness, box cutting is a painful chore even with a good utility knife, but it looks like those scissors go through cardboard like butter! I figured out that they're Dremel HSSC-01 Electric Scissors, so I ordered some.
Oh awesome!

Omg same. I've had tendonitis for a few years now and that thing would be super helpful.
As someone with ADHD I'm really curious about how ADHD negatively impacts box cutting

Yeah, the price is still a real shame, there's plenty who would benefit but get priced out
Yes ❤
I came to check the comments if anyone had mentioned this and yes!
@@CaityRaindrop This right here is the biggest problem with a lot of these automated things. Like, an automatic paper towel dispenser is great for people who have a hard time with manual dexterity. But a lot of those same people can't afford it.

The pair of them losing their minds over the label maker was brilliant hahaha
To be honest, the digital read out measuring tape is great for people like me that have difficulty processing measuring considering I process differently due to my autism, plus my boyfriend is visually impaired. We plan to do crafts but things that seem “lazy” are usually just meant for people like us or old people. lol. So I’m noting that one down personally for us. Wish y’all the best!
And if you want something more accurate then judging it by eye. For an engineer there can be a big difference between 1/32 and 1/16.
I was thinking diaper bin
I was thinking the same, it would be great for someone with a disability. I know someone with arthritis in their fingers, and they'd probably love a trash can like that. Could be a little bigger, but it would still be alright beside a desk.
Usually when someone’s asking “why would anyone need this”, the answer is disability 😂 the measuring tape with the display seems great for people who struggle to read the small numbers too, for example.
Good point that would be helpful ! I was originally thinking maybe for throwing out diapers as it seals it...
while these use cases are great, i still gotta question the astronomical prices tho. these aren't state-of-the-art prosthetics which a disabled person will use for life and grant them a level of mobility or dexterity that would be life-changing... these are still mostly minor conveniences that have more value for disabled folks.
the question becomes... is the value of that shift from minor to major convenience worth a 1,000% markup? and when does it become exploitation of disabled folks? (probably if it is only marketed to them i guess)
You need to combine the Printer and the Towel Dispenser

I feel like the trash can would be a god send for diapers, not having to handle the used diaper trash bag and having the labor of tying off and putting in a new bag done for you seems like heaven with a newborn.
100%, that or just as a bathroom trashcan in general. That's what I'd use it for.
I believe there was one marketed towards parents that did the same thing (closing it self) and was 50 bucks cheaper. the only con was that it was pastel yellow and had animals printed on, but you can literally spray paint it.
A friend has a similar thing, though it doesn’t auto-seal - she uses it for cat litter.
33:46 The mug is definitly cat-free, but turns out wasn't kate-free
first thing that comes to mind for a lot of the automated products is how nice it would be for someone with disabilities. i find myself struggling with small mundane tasks that a lot of people wouldnt give a second thought, and something like the trash can would be so nice where i dont have to hurt my hands and arms trying to replace the bag. idk, not always for lazy people. love the video!
as a canadian, it’s wild to me that people live places where there could just be a scorpion in your house. like it makes sense because bugs get inside and if you live somewhere where scorpions are common but… holy crap i would not be able to handle that as calmly as you guys did

I too live in Texas, and we don’t have scorpions right here, but we’ve had wasps get in the house. I was about to comment myself- I have the medium sized one that they showed for work! We use it to keep wool from pilling

Joobie probably hunts them for sport
Yeah those little guys are all over Texas. They're not really dangerous, they just hurt like a wasp but worse. They are less aggressive than wasps too, pretty easy to catch with a cup and paper and release. Just need to check your boots in the morning if you leave them outside
