I picked up these books when I was going through a very rough time in my life (divorce). Can honestly say they got me through it. The hardship and triumphs of these characters held me together. I reread this trilogy near annually
I finally realized why I like your review's so much. It's great to see books through the eyes of a published author who is a genuine mega fan and not too bad of a writer. Good on you.

I love the way Tad Williams writes. He puts a lot of modern authors to shame. An amazing world, characters, and the words just flow off the page. Why can't other authors be like that?

Ok, I've got to get this! It looks like you can still get that small paperback you're holding ... can't believe it. You've got THE best "booktube" channel, no contest.
This book first blew my mind as a Freshman in college in 1990 (I was a little late to the party), was gifted the first edition paperback (the two layered cover with the oval cutout is very cool) by my roommate. Fortunately the paperback of Stone of Farewell was available after I'd finished Dragonbone Chair, but I had to wait an interminable three years for the Part1 of To Green Angel Tower. Needless to say I read the first two several times in the interim. I bought hardcovers over the years, a pristine set to cherish, a second-hand set to re-read the "trilogy" every couple of years, and devoured the sequel trilogy.
I am dying for Navigator's Children, but I do like the supplemental novellas that have come out around the main sequel trilogy.
I read The Dragonbone Chair years ago but had forgotten about it. I dont have my copy anymore so I just ordered a new copy to read again. Thanks for the reminder. btw: You are correct, it was excellent!

Delighted to hear you mention pillars of the moon. The sequel in my opinion is better. Both amazing. Book 3 not so much. I read dragonbone last year and I loved it. I’m currently waiting for the rest of the books to be delivered to reread and then finish the series.
I've just finished the first book in your series and I have to say it's become one of my favorite books I've ever read. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say this either. The characters (Nail, Stephen, Tala, Jond,Gault) the places and the political intrigue is all top notch. The writing itself is also blowing me away. It's beautiful writing without being overly flowery and it's so fucking epic. Okay I'm done kissing ass but I just want to thank you for letting me go on such a great freaking adventure. About to start the second book and I haven't been this excited to jump back into a world in several years. 😅 now while I'm waiting for my friend to be able to buddy read the second book in your series as we also buddy read the first(she loved it) I'm going to read the people who have influenced you.

I loved the dragonbone chair . Just watched Daniel Greene’s review on the forgetting moon and he loved it and I can’t wait to read it. Also check out Sean Russell’s swans war trilogy starting with the one kingdom.

I’ve had this on my shelf for years and decided to give it a go after watching your video on why Tad Williams is your favorite author. I’m halfway through it right now and I cannot believe I waited this long to read something by him. I’m already in love with it. Is his Otherworld series as good as this ??
Yes! It is something else entirely (set in 2050) but OtherLAND (;-)) but certainly as good.
My first introduction to fantasy was walking into the used books section of the goodwill we had around the corner from my house. We were dirtpoor and there was no library around our neighborhood so it was the best I could do.
I remember looking through all the danielle steel romances and kitchen soup books to find, a hardcover copy of the dragonbone chair with its dustjacket still on in prestine condition. That and belgarath the sorcerer were my introductions to fantasy and its still my favorite of all time.
I also remember getting the dune books, most of the the book of the new sun (sans the last volume), weaveworld and belgarath the sorcerer there. I know its silly to think but I always about what are the chances of a small goodwill in the middle of the ghetto having those books, especially in prestine condition as I found them.

@@B.LEE.DbrianleedurfeeREVIEWS well, I had another funny story dealing with Memory, Sorrow and Thorn. Was rereading To Green Angel Tower while I was waiting for repairmen to come fix my A/C. When they came over, I put the book on the coffee table and all three of the guys stared at it like it was a loaded gun.
After they were finished one of the repair guys turned to my wife and asked her in portuguese "your husbend like reading really REALLY big books doesn't he?"
One author who is sadly overlooked is Karl Edward Wagner, author of the Kane books. A better prose stylist than most of them, I think. Another writer of the old school canon is Fritz Leiber, author of the Fahfed and Grey Mouser series. Now this guy is the best you're gonna get by any stretch of the imagination. His erudition is second to none, whether it be horror, fantasy or sci-fi. This guy walked on water. Try him out. You will not regret it.

I enjoy coming here, I want to read more fantasy novels just don't know where to start (and actively trying to avoid garbage). I've read The Hobbit and the three Robert E. Howard collections of Conan stories, that's it.

I'm on Page 200ish. The first 100 were a bit sloggish but after that the reader is incredibly rewarded and I'm absolutely loving this! Looking forward to seeing this pathetic pup Simon grow and develop into a respectable hero protagonist. I pronouce it PEE-RAH-TEES

Just for your opinion, Grey area (game of thrones reviewer asoiaf) she really relates Tad Williams Dragbone bone series to GRRM ASOIAF, I think there are some similarities but not enough to , draw lle's, your opinion?
George R R Martin himself claims on several UA-cam videos to have drawn a lot of inspiration from Tad Williams

After reading the song of ice and fire, Circe by Madeline miller. These new age fantasy just doesn’t do it for me and I need something old school or medieval fantasy. I want more word play.. more character development. Plus I’m 22 and I feel peer pressure to read all the new fantasy books that I don’t really want to😂 This book sounds like exactly what I need. I just went ahead and ordered the book. Thank you for posting.

@@B.LEE.DbrianleedurfeeREVIEWS Matt was my first agent, a long time ago, but things didn't work out, he signed me to a contract he called "boiler-plate" with a very big publishing house, but the contract was anything but that, it was extremely unorthodox and my editor was off the rails cray-cray; I ended up nulling the contract and we went our separate ways. Anyway, congrats, I started subbing in 1990 and have only ever had one novel published, it doesn't always go well for the writer. You're very lucky!

If I might make a constructive criticism, try to rehearse a bit I think. It feels a bit disorganized almost. Almost like you forget what to say at times. If not perhaps cut out some of the pauses in between thoughts. Just my 2 cents
It’s also important to accept people as they are. If he’s taking a second to gather his thoughts it’s fine. What makes you think he wouldn’t have rehearsed before the video. I’m not trying to be rude but I’m just saying let’s be a little accepting of everyone. People are trying their best.

Brian’s occasional pauses are part of the charm of his youtube channel. He’s raw and keeps it real. Maybe watch the videos at 1.25x speed if the pauses bother you.
