Finding Fossils - After the Flood

- A few days after the biggest floods here in Portugal I decided to look for fossils in the most prolific sites I know in the hope that the recent floods would uncover new species of fossils. At first I thought I wouldn't be able to make a video, this because it started to rain torrentially despite the forecast not having given rain for the day. With no options, I hid in the bushes and waited for the rain to pass. Instead of going back to the car soaking wet, I decided to walk around and see what was new anyway. The result couldn't have been more spectacular....the day ended on a high note with the sun drying my clothes and my bags of fossils completely ful.

Ohhh, I just now noticed that I hadn't seen your comment yet. My apologies! Yes, sometimes I accidentally damage the fossils with my emotion and excitement and I don't really notice what I'm doing... but I've gotten better at collecting them over time. Plastic bags are cheap but of course nothing beats a fabric bag. But that way I make sure I don't exceed the weight limit when I bring things home. Because if you abuse it... there goes the bag. I'm very happy that you liked the movies, that's what gives me strength and motivation to keep going! Thank you very much!😊👍⛏🦖🦕🐌

Also wrote about The Protectant \ Glue: *Paraloid B-72* i see some use. Check it out, i hope to get some soon - not that i need much with the tiny pieces of Crinoids i find; Always hope for bigger. That's another story for later.

Thanks!! Well this place is a bit far of my house... about 80 Km or so, but taking in to consideration the amount of fossil that you can find there, it's worth the travel that's for sure. Merry Christmas ! 😄🙂🎅🏼🎄🐚🐚🦕

I remember this area from before. I was so wishing I could be there. So many cool fossils I was amazed by how many there were in one place.

It's been very cold here today. The wind chill has put the temperature below zero. That's very cold for the area of Texas I live in. I am staying with one of my nieces for a bit.
Sadly no rocks in the area. No fossils either just lots of houses 😆.

Here we still don't have freezing temperatures, we've just had one of the worst floods in recent years... but the good thing is that in these places more new and interesting things always appear. On Christmas day it also rained a lot and I'm going to see if I visit another area I know to see if the rain exposed more gifts...hehheheh!! I hope you had a merry Christmas with lots of gifts. WOW !!!! That had to be one of the most enjoyable videos you have made in some time!The amount of fossils in the clay beds was wonderful!! The single Trigonia specimen you found was one of the best I have ever seen. Isn't it most enjoyable to collect in sticky mud? ! I have noticed in some of the areas you walk through no larger trees,is that normal or have all the trees been cut down in the past? Maybe you can get some more floods to remove even more fossils! Thank you my friend. Heheheh!! In fact this fossil hunt was a gift from Santa Claus. I don't think I've ever brought as many fossils home as I did that day and I confess that I thought I wasn't going to get enough material to make the video to put on UA-cam. In that area the Trigonia seem to be born out of the ground and there are shells of them everywhere. I managed to save some pretty ones and of course there is one that is in excellent condition. There are practically no trees there, I don't know if they cut them down in the past, but finding shade or shelter is practically impossible there. mud is good because you don't have a lot of work to dig, but that mud looks like glue, it sticks to everything and makes identifying fossils more difficult. can you find fossils everywhere woth a good eye or you have to go in specific places?
Hello. Well, some places there aren't any fossils. Keep in mind that the best tyoe of rocks should be sedimentary , granite or basalt type rocks ( vulcanic ) is very dificult to find anytingh. The location matters, try to see the topografic maps of the area or check my videos in tips to find fossils. Keep in mind, if you find one, there's probably more around. Thanks!!😊👍🦖🦕🐚🐚
